      Freeqout would be a good pedal, but the feedbacks don't last more than 10 seconds. I need a pedal with a feedback decay of over 30 seconds.

    The Digitech pedal does have a volume control. You mentioned in your video that it does not. The swell knob also doubles as a volume knob and has a top and bottom pot. One is for volumed and the other is for the time it takes for the feedback to come in. Thanks for the demo. If you play the pedal in auto mode, you get some really cool melodies that pop in out of our playing based on your playing style.

    As far as I know, the Digitech FreqOut is the only one that you can bend the string during the feedback and manipulate the signal. I have one and really like it. I also have the Boss super distortion and feedbacker.

    Nice job! I recently picked up a Digitech Freqout. It's a lot of fun and does a decent job once you get the hang of it. I like that it works opposite of a feedback destroyer. Very cool idea. I never realized that a Dr. Distorto did feedback. I bet that is modeled on the HX Effects that I recently got. I still have an Echo Park from that series. It has held up much better than I ever thought it would.

    Excellent vid and overview, liked and subscribed! 🎸 Another option is the Behringer FD300 Ultra Feedback / Distortion (clone of the Boss DF-2), very affordable when they first appeared (I think) in '04 ish.
    It's well reviewed, but stigmatized by the love/hate some people have with their pedals. Also, I think the Boss FB-2 is a digital circuit. But I like it's sound too!

      Thanks! I didn't know there was a Behringer clone. Looking at the videos. it sounds exactly the same as the Boss DF2! Apparently it also has a cult following. There's also one from Fender called the Runaway that's even rarer these days. Way more fun just running the amp hot but I can see the practicality of this. I know my amp and pedals well and can make it feed or be silent on a whim, I enjoy interacting with the speakers in that way. I do think in certain environments a pedal could work well for people who just want a controlled feedback here and there without the risk of running their amp hot enough to do it naturally. Great for not blowing up FOH accidentally when live, great for bedroom guitar with volume restrictions. I suppose great if you haven't spent much time with high gain amps and always being diligent about how much noise you're creating.

  • @hydorah
    @hydorah ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The boss DF-2 and the Digitech had the best sounds. The Behringer had a dream set of features but sounded awful as did the silver Boss. Funny that you didn't use a big distorted tone in any of the demo but I guess you were constrained there by many of the pedals also being distortions. Sounded really odd to hear feedback swelling out of Chillipepper-esqe clean riff! Finally congrats on wearing shoes. I'm lowkey annoyed by the amount of pedal reviews wear you see a socked foot sneak into the picture and hit the switches

      Haha thanks! Besides not wanting to bother viewers with my socks or bare feet, I don't like the feeling of stomping on footswitches without soles underneath my feet. What did you mean with the Behringer one? I know they did a clone of the DF-2 but apparently it sounds identical.

    It would be cool to have an expression pedal input to engage the effect and be able to move the feedback up an octave, though the Boss pedals kind of get there.

    • @DIYguitarGuy
      @DIYguitarGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that would be a cool feature. The Fender Runaway has it but I was unaware of that pedal when I made this video. It's still a cool pedal but I prefer pedals that have an expression input (or midi) instead of one that's build in.

    I thought the freqout was the pedal I was looking for but when I used it with the songs that had to have feedback/ sustain longer than 4 seconds it would crap out. The feedback only lasts as long as the LED light to the top then it just dies. That isn't good enough, so I either need a sustainer built in guitar or a sustainer pedal instead of the feedback. or both?

  • @andyinwales
    @andyinwales หลายเดือนก่อน

    It looks like you engage the pedal after you hit the last note. Would it not make more sense to hit the switch 'before' the note is played, to get the transients and higher gain? Sounds great anyway.

    • @DIYguitarGuy
      @DIYguitarGuy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because for the Boss DF-2 and FB-2, you have to activate the feedback side by holding the switch down while the effect is on. It has to lock on to the note you're playing. The distortion or boost is already on so the higher gain is already there, you just have to tell it to what note the feedbacker effect should apply to. Both of them sound terrible when you continue playing while the footswitch is held down. For the Freqout and Dr. Distorto it doesn't matter since they have auto tracking.

    • @DIYguitarGuy
      @DIYguitarGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      It can provide those tones but it doesn't add sustain, it's dependant on the guitars sustain. It also does those ebow kind of sounds with the slow attack. You have no control over the release and it can be really abrupt. Maybe if you place a volume pedal after it, it can be smoothed.

    I have the Digitech and it is the most versatile, its a shame it never really caught on like the Whammy. I set mine with the auto off so you can engage with the footswitch, level is about the same as original signal, gain two thirds and the feedback setting at oct above.

    How does the TC Electronic Infinite compare to these pedals?

    • @DIYguitarGuy
      @DIYguitarGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It doesn't. The only pedal of these four that's capable of holding a note for as long as you want is the Boss DF-2, but keep in mind that it's monophonic, so that's only one note and no chords. Besides that, it'll always add a wild vibrato effect and it's pre-gain, so it will always sound distorted.

      The FB2 not working without speakers doesn't make sense. Isn't the whole idea for these pedals to eliminate amps for silent headphone practice or direct ampless recording. Why does FB1 need to see a speaker.I can't see how it can interact with a guitar speaker?
