After 40 years of drinking various gins I’ve settled on five that now always sit in my cabinet. Plymouth and Roku are easy, quality, subtle gins while Monkey 47, Gunpowder and Tarquin’s blue bottle are more characterful and impactful without being clumsy. I’ve drank many others that have been very pleasant but those five are permanent fixtures in my gin department. Cheers!

Your comparison of Gordon's to beefeater is absolutely ridiculous because in my part of the world beefeater is twice the price of Gordons.

Curiously, as a japonophile (I do calligraphy, hand-formed ceramic teaware, and design tea gardens) this video confirmed my curiosity to try Roku. 😎

While your presentation reflects that you put hard work into it, you really butchered the pronunciation of a large number of the products you mentioned.

What about RumHaven? Made with real coconut water- and cheaper than Malibu. Malibu is a chemical crap bath....

I’ve been at sea as an officer and Captain for 49 years man and boy. Gin and Tonic has been my staple drink the entire time. Firstly tradition demanded it and then it rapidly became my preference. One thing has never changed really. It has to be Schweppes Tonic Water and quite frankly my go-to gin has always been Plymouth Gin when I can get it or plain-old, dependable Gordon’s if not. There seems to be a degree of snobbery creeping in and a lot of “newcomer” gins in recent years are a) ridiculously expensive and b) frankly not very good. I really don’t like Bombay Sapphire at all.Beefeaters I can take or leave, Tanquaray I use for cocktails and Hendricks is a nice enough drink. I am sitting writing this while enjoying a G&T made using Sam’s Club gin which they sell in massive bottles at very reasonable prices! Not the best but very drinkable and better than most of the recent expensive offerings in their fancy bottles and boxes….

Hendricks Midsummer but no Hendricks? Well that makes zero sense.

I happen to have found my drink other than Rye with Ginger Beer and that's the Negroni, So gin was now on the 2 bottle list of mine, We have a local gin in Oregon called Wild Roots, I think it's great but hell after watching this I will take your word for quality . I do like the Beefeater. The orange & bergamont gin from Wild Roots is recommended. Great vid.

I actually LIKE Captain Morgan, Meyers, Malibu, and Sailor Jerry! I also like Bumbu, but otherwise I'll stick with what I know.

Ron Zacapa has won best rum in the world so many years they don't even enter the competition anymore to give other rums a chance 😂

Two favorite and bydget bends that are both 86 prroof are Teacher's and Hanky Bannister. Lang's also makes three different varieties but Lang's and Hanky may be hard to find.

We have trouble finding it, but our all-time favorite is Barbancourt 8 or 15 year-old, from the strife-ridden country of Haiti.

Dr. Bombay come right away! I've gotten used to the stronger sapphire version. It's really a matter of taste I guess. I don't care for the standard Tanqueray. To me it has an off taste and I feel I have come a long way from the Seagrams and the bubbly glass bottle. Ever since I discovered blue cheese stuffed olives I can't make a martini without a few. Yum.

We use the black Kraken's stronger flavor for Christmas items, especially Rum balls (cocoa powder, powdered sugar, crushed nilla wafters). It seems to take more of other spiced rums to get enough flavor, and by then, the alcohol flavor gets strong enough that they need to "air out" for a couple of days. I have experienced some quality variation with Sailor Jerry's. I had given up on it until, at a family gathering, a relative brought a bottle that tasted better than I remembered. I bought another bottle for myself that was not nearly as good, so I have again moved away from it.

Buffalo Trace is wildly overrated, especially considering how hard it is to find. I've done several blind tastings and it finished last in all of them.

The only reason to buy Gordon's gin is because it is required for the James Bond Vesper martini.

I didn't even know that "Havana Club by Bacardi" was a thing before watching this video. But then again the genuine Cuban Havana Club 3 years is commonly available where i live and if your assessment is any indication it would probably blow the Bacardi version out of the water in a direct comparison.

As an avid gin drinker for decades, I enjoyed your presentation. I think, however, that you may have transposed the date of the release of Ford's gin. It was 2012, not 2021. Also, your choice of reviewing Hendricks Midsummer was confusing as it was a limited release and no longer available. I did enjoy learning about the historical background of the gins and the ingredients comparisons. I was surprised to hear how recent some of these were developed. Thanks.

My introduction to gin of any kind was a shared warm bottle of Beefeater in a war zone under random fire. It has a special place in my heart, and there are still nights when a shot of warm Beefeater is is just what my soul needs.

At 35% ABV Bumbu is not rum……

As a bartender...the Dark and Stormy is NEVER made with Myer's. It is the national drink of Barbados. Thus it is made with Gossling's. A Barbadian rum. IF your bar is making it with Myer's....bail. Quickly.

I lived in the Caribbean for years. This is a simple fact of life: Puerto Ricans don't drink Bacardi. Their "ever day drinker" is Don Q. If Puerto Ricans won't drink Bacardi "Puerto Rican" rum? Why should you?

Started with JW Red then went to Black, until my dad had me try some single malt, so now I am basically a Glenlivet 12 unless I can get the 18 on sale, but my favorite one I have had so far was a gifted bottle of Balvenie Doublewood 17 which I can’t even find where I live, I think I am going to try the Doublewood 12

When I was living in Saint Petersburg I was getting something called Matusalem, which if I remember rightly was Dominican. I'm no connoisseur but I liked it.

Shouldn't the mash bill for Larceny be 68% Corn 20%, Wheat, 12% Malted Barley?

A bottle of Bombay Sapphire is a wonderful marketing device with lightly gin-flavored vodka in it. Just drink a vodka martini.

O mention of trueTrinidad rums from Angostura or Fernandez distilleries… check them out, they have been made for more than a century…

Great job sir. Really enjoyed your presentation. However, I have to ask, how could you do a video like this without including rums from the Appleton Estate in Jamaica? Come on man, you need to do one looking at the J. Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum and various other rums as well as some from the Monymusk and Long Pond Distilleries and there are a few smaller distilleries on the island. I am looking out for it. A tongue in cheek comment, 'Remember now, if it does not contain Cane Acid, Molasses, Dunder and Muck then I don't know what it is, but it sure aint rum'. Ha ha ha haaaaaa. Once again, Great Job. ALL Bacardi titles are 75 proof (37.5 abv) not 80 and they're sll crap the Superior has no aging at all it sits in steel tanks waiting to be bottled....Sailor Jerry was ruined by the distributor they tweaked the recipe to reduce costs

Whisky, notice I spell it the Scottish way (The Irish spell it Whiskey) has become very snobbish. Churchill was very content to indulge in JW red label, and as they say "he had a profound understanding of it!". Sixty years ago there was very little choice in whisky and even less when it came to single Malts. Now, one has to mortgage one's first-born grandchild to attempt to buy an upscale decent bottle of single malt. Scottish whisky has now almost surpassed Congnac in price which is crazy. Grandfather had a great Irish expression and when was fond of saying" There is no such thing as bad whiskey......some is better than others" It is a truism and the proof of the pudding is in the taste.

Haymans Old Tom mixed with Jack Rudy Classic Tonic and some lime seltzer is just wow! Slightly sweeter but delicious! The Haymans really makes the cocktail.

My only comment is where the heck do you get Monkey 47 at only 48$ per bottle?

Kirkland gin. 18 bucks for 1.75 liter. Stands up to all uses. I dare anyone to blind taste test it with gin drinkers....they will never know they didn't drink those gins that cost,2 to 4 tines more.

I tried Aviation gin, and... it just doesn't carry the kind of oomph that I like in my gins, sadly. I love you, Ryan, but it is a no for me. I actually got to try some local gins when I was in Cornwall, back in 2023, which were quite lovely. They were from the Rock distillery, and one was an orange peel gin, and the other was their "cherry kiss." They were both quite lovely!
