i've always loved jazz bass style necks because of the string spacing at the nut. Most basses have a wider neck. So i was wondering would it be problem to take a bass with a wide neck and put a new nut in and file it with a jazz style string spacing?
It was nice to hear that you prefer the 3 corner file file over the crowning file. I haven't tried the StewMac diamond crowning file but have never felt comfortable with most other crowning files. The trusty 3 corner file may take a bit longer but i really like the visibility while working on my bass. Great series.
I have nickel frets looking to upgrade to Jescar EVO Gold Fretwire. I'm also looking to get the round fret ends you did in a prior video with a dremal grinding stone and a 2mm round diamond bit. Can I hammer this material in or will I need a fret press to minimize fret leveling afterwards?
I was sanding a bone saddle, and I wore a dustmask, I heard it was some pretty nasty dust to breathe. Can't tell whether you do it, but anyways here that story
Another informative video, the bone nut explanation and fabrication was great. Thanks Chris.

Nice video. I like the way you handle yourself in the comments. Blunt and to the point like we were meant to be.
A blunt comment deserves a blunt response. Thank you for the support!

Why didn't you explain how far from the ends of the nut to place the E and G strings?
There's nothing to explain. Make it whatever you want it to be.
very good video!
HI Chris, can you make a left hand fretless jazz style with a lined fretboard?
Probably. But I doubt I ever will. I've got other ideas I want to pursue.
D and G strings on 6:10min are 0.090" instead 0.90" right?
Right.
when level frets don´t protect the pickups?
If you lack control, then yes. protect your pickups.
What are your thoughts on roller nuts and zero frets?
Zero frets are cool, but a bit of a pain. Roller nuts are a solution in search of a problem.

I’ve never used EVO. You’ll have to ask Jescar.

I wear a mask, but like anything else you hear on the internet, especially forums, take it with a grain of salt. Everyone thinks they are a scientist.
Hey Chris hope you're doing well. Would you say those jigs like the Earlewine neck jig are useful for leveling frets?
They're great for repair work, but unnecessary overkill for building new guitars.
Did you have a guitar giveaway or did you get highjacked?
A scammer is using my profile pic. They're been reported to TH-cam.
Never grind individual frets!!! Always the entire surface, because there will not be one equal line.
A high spot makes an unequal line.
I've been spot-leveling frets for years---I didn't get the memo that it was a problem now!
@@hippychipsguitars601 As I write this reply, I am taking a break from spot leveling.
