I have the 3 numb little fingers on the right hand from LEL. I have difficulty switching on my electric toothbrush with right thumb. This was with aero bars and 32mm 60psi tubeless tyres. For me it was caused by all the descending on the drops. Lessons - 1. double cushion bar tape. 2. Modify grip to be more in the fingers on the drops not to press weight on the nerves. 3. Exercise core more.

I've thought similar and double wrapped the bars on my other bike now, hopefully a waiting game for hands nerve to recoy

I have "Hand Arm Vibration Syndrom" usually abreviated to HAVS but was better known as "White finger" in the recent past. When it first occurred I blamed it on my work, where I often used hand tools and other machinery in the Engineering industry however I suspected that thousands of hours spent holding onto a bike may have played its part. A fellow cyclist with no history of operating vibrating hand tools also has the condition, he firmly believes that cycling has given him this injury, which is permanent nerve damage to the extremities of the hands. If your fingers suddenly get really cold, turn waxy white and will not heat up, you have it. The best way to alleviate it, is to immerse the affected area in a basin of hot water and then watch the life flow back into your hands. I forward this info for your future reference, may God be with you.

    Hi Adam
Just started watching your videos, as I am a fixed wheel devotee, and am really impressed with the mileage you complete riding fixed especially with one hand extended in front of you holding your GoPro. Surely you could fix some sort of a selfie stick to your bars thus relieving you of what must be a tiring and painful position and which would certainly be safer

The long downhill sections are ideal for a bit of shut eye, no need to stop.

Great learnings Adam, thanks for sharing. I caught the finger pinch grip problem in May whilst riding 35's. I also found another problem in that I couldn't stick two fingers up so had to use the middle finger salute. I've been using crocodile clips to work out the muscles and normal function is now returning. Keep up the fantastic content.

Interesting talk of the Rene Herse ideas. I quite like the work he (Jan) did and the concept of suspension losses. Wondering about getting some light-walled 32's to try out on my Vale of Clwyd roads.

That speaker looks top shelf, .. personally I used to ride with a radio set but stopped taking it as the valves were getting harder and harder to replace after each ride, but I guess that's progress . Great video as usual, good luck with that Aussie jersey, youre'll fit in right propper wen as you'm visit ar'se down under !

Adam, You need to look after yourself and protect your bod. It's the only one you have. I have nerve damage in my left arm which occurs after riding for a bit. It's not fun and you shouldn't take it so casually. Definitely start riding with fatter tyres and slightly lower tyre pressures. Thinner tyres and rock hard pressures are fine for smooth roads in France and Italy but shit UK roads, no way. I now ride with min 35c tyres at around 60-65psi I seldom ride my road bike with 25 or even 28c tyres at 100 psi any more as I just can't take the vibration and inevitable numbness in hands after a longer ride on UK roads. I don't want to have permanent numbness in my hands and arms. A shout out for fatter tyres. How is your MTB doing? Would you ever get a fat bike 4" plus tyres?
Glad to hear your cost of living is coming down with the price crash in oats. Do you think ASDAs may have dropped their price of oats to run as a loss leader to tempt you to buy other items? Don't spend all your windfall at once. Does this mean the price of HobNobs will also decrease as they are oats as well?
Good to see you out on your Van Nich. Nice bike.

Can recommend the 32mm tyre ride. Run at sub 60psi. It’s lovely and comfy and keeps eyes from being blurry when taking in views (dirt included) in near, mid and far distances. May require fangled discs which at times require no end of fettling. Hope you had assistance removing helmet (squeeze clip challenge) and ‘other areas’ also recovered from numbness.

I went 35mm at about 48psi, even better! Wonder what the real break even point is, 32, 35, 38mm? Eventually aero will knacker your speed, but aero bars will save more than going to 38mm and sitting up in the wind!

You may want to try two layers of bar tape to avoid hand-numbness (where one is cork or gel). Also making sure the cables run under finger tips and not mid-fingers.

I liked the video a lot ! As for listerine, I always have it on me.
Since I never did such a long one, I’m always curious, what was your avg bpm and wether you managed it on purpose .
I’ve experienced on the 200/300s that whenever I start in a hurry I suffer at the end, if I more or less keep it under 120bpm then no issues at the end. More importantly, if I don’t pay enough attention I’ll sleep much worse afterward. Meaning I’d struggle on such a long event. (not that it’s the only thing keeping me away as of now:))

I've gone from 32c with normal tubes, to 32c with latex or crazy tubolitos, to now 30c tubeless, and the tubeless are by far the most comfortable, I can run them at 50psi or probably even lower. Noticeably plush! much less buzz
