My favorite Bread song and really one of my favorites of all time. So lovely, sad and delicate. The song was actually inspired by David Gates' fascination with the wonderfully elegant actress of the 50's and 60's, Audrey Hepburn. If my wife and I had had a daughter we would have named her Aubrey.
When my oldest brother met my sister in law some time in the 80's he told her one day they'd get married and have a daughter and name her Aubrey and when she got married this was would be the father daughter dance. It all came true!! Beautiful song!!
I read that David Gates had watched the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's, starring Audrey Hepburn. He seems to imagine knowing her personally and wrote this song changing the name slightly, Audrey to Aubrey.
Great reaction. The 1970's was a musical arms race for musicians to explore the depths of heartbreak. So many popular songs were like that, as 8 year old at the time, I was convinced that adulthood was going tough going. Disco followed to swing the mood in the polar opposite direction.
"Where was June?" Back then, June was the month of high school graduations... and the most popular month for budding high school romances to resolve by marriage.
Looking in the comments below, I see that AUBREY was written about AUDREY Hepburn, the actress, whom the writer found so lovely he fell in love with her and, so, he "had her for one day", the day he saw the movie .
What a beautiful song! Do you have a new camera? Excellent image quality today! I even had to downsize the quality because my connection is too slow... Does it take longer for upload too? - I'll keep mentioning Mon Laferte until you see her name and do a first reaction... Mon Laferte - La nave del olvido 💗💗💗
This has been one of my favorite songs for 50 years. Thank you for the memory. Great reaction.

A band of beauty.
she was a thought or a dream
Aubrey it seems was a fantasy, or a dream lover who dissolved with the passage of time. He never got his dream girl.
