This only adds to my confusion as to why Stop Motion animation hasn't made it big in mainstream horror. I mean, for a bit, it was used because they didn't have cg capabilities, but now, stop motion in horror is non existent save little indie gems like this. Also, Jan Svankmajer eat your heart out.
Too time consuming. And one little frame mistake will put production back to like 50+ frames. I enjoy these stop animations myself, and there's only few out there, but you just gotta roll with it :(
markie Yeah, that's honestly the main reason. Then again, the little mistakes might work for horror. The little hiccups in motion might make it creepier.
Are you serious about being confused about it tho? It's obviously because with CGI you can make something seem much more real than with stopmotion figures.
GrNen Sorry, but sometimes "more real" equates to "much more unbelievable." That, and there's an ephemeral, eerie, unearthly movement to stop motion. Not saying that cgi doesn't have its place, but a lot of times, even if the cgi is perfect, it doesn't feel real. Sure, the movements and details of stop motion may not be as realistic, but this is the movie business we're talking about. Realistic isn't a requirement, and sometimes it hinders a film. For most people, cgi isn't inherently creepy (save maybe the uncanny valley effect in stuff like Polar Express), but a LOT of people find stop motion eerie, as it's taking an inanimate object, and giving it life. It has the potential to be quite frightening. Admittedly, I shouldn't be confused because of COURSE Hollywood will always go the cheaper, more efficient route, and in most cases that's cgi. I guess I'm more confused as to why you don't see it in Indie cinema, where that kind of creativity tends to thrive more, where experimental is more the norm.
This was unusual, definitely different compared to most horror shorts I've seen! Watching a little over 10 years later and I would read this in literature form.
Here just after watching the movie (stopmotion 2023). I would've never guessed that one of horror animators who shaped my childhood love of horror would go this far, thanks man!
This was an absolute pleasure to watch. The acting and cinematography were surprisingly good, the animation a clever and picturesque touch, and the concept on the whole refreshingly idiosyncratic.
This is one of those videos where I HAVE to save it to my favorites, or else years later it’ll bother me MORE that I can’t remember how to find it again.
Me too!! Like the word moist, chalk, chalkboard, teeth grinding, when a creep ass guy says panties, James & the giant peach, box trolls, the original willy Wonka movie, cotton balls squishing, the sound of a body breaking from a very high fall, nipples touched the wrong way, smacking squish noises while eating, moles with hair sticking out, yellowheads on someone's face that need to be popped SO so bad, an itch that can't be scratched, cats cleaning themselves extremely loud, any kind of schlopp schlopp wet noise like that entirely, the part where the statues attack everyone at the table in Beetlejuice, ANY part of beetlejuice, styrofoam being cut or crinkled, packaging peanuts being stepped on, dropping a cup of milk that covers the entire floor from just a small cup, dolphins communicating with their eh eh eh eh noises, cats in heat, honey boo boos mom in heat, jenelle from teen mom, the nasely voices of the Kardashians, nasely voices imitating the Kardashians andddd finally, the way they ended game of thrones. WTF!!!
Oh yeah? Well watch the one called "the man in the lower left hand corner of the picture" .. Yes that's the name of it..made by the same man but in stop motion animation..Its one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. Also "separation".. U will be horrified and and feel extremely uncomfortable for days..
I just got a reply to one of my comments and came here and so I had to watch it again. This is hands-down the creepiest little film I've ever seen. Totally chilling!
That was surprisingly calming. Kitty just wants to be human. No kitty, it's better that you stay a cat. You don't want to become one of us monsters. Even I don't wish to be human sometimes.
shit if i pulled a small cat purring from a well i'd feel too damn bad for the poor thing to acknowledge its hands. if anything i'd feel even worse for the lil dude. like shit for all i'd know someone abandoned that cat there specifically bc of that. damn
XD that was so funny, I had to laugh so much. Great job, I love this. It's also extremely well made. The sound, the voices, the colors, scenery, the actors and the quality are awesome
that was possible the strangest yet most intriguing independent film i've ever seen good for you sir you managed to creep me out and it's still daylight
Wow! This was really good! Nice creepy fairy tale with surreal imagery. the stop motion lends it that fantastical element better than CGI, and the CGI was, for once, not too overdone. Very nice.
Last night as I slumbered I had a strange dream One that seemed to bring distant friends near I dreamt of the faces of people I loved And I woke with a heart full of cheer.
Last night as I slumbered I had a strange dream, / One that seemed to bring distant friends near. / I dreamt of the faces of people I loved, / And I awoke with an 'eart full of cheer. Who wrote this poem/song?
15 yrs later this is still being recommended on instagram
y'know what? Good on you cat. You followed your dreams and became a real boy. Congratulations!

Stop motion is incredibly time consuming. Hollywood(mainstream) is less about artistic quality&taste and more about efficiency&simplicity.
GrNen Sorry, but sometimes "more real" equates to "much more unbelievable." That, and there's an ephemeral, eerie, unearthly movement to stop motion. This takes "Cat got your tongue?" to a whole new level.

Tabby v Don't be rude
ugly cat
Tabby v Am not
Cat dumb
when my friend told me about this I said "aw the poor cat just wanted to be a human" and she just looked at me and said "no."
What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?

that moment when youtube makes better horror than most modern horror producers
☝
+lazergame112 ☝
what the fuck? this was madre before youtube existed
what the fuck? this was madre before youtube existed
This is better than the current horror movies. Contratulations to the artist.
Pablo Hernández contratulation? what.
crazysquadgames Congratulations.* Finger mistake.
Kissing scene. Didn't see that coming
The only thing it still never got was the letter H.
This was unusual, definitely different compared to most horror shorts I've seen! Watching a little over 10 years later and I would read this in literature form.
Daenaries Targaryen really? That's cool. I find this strange cuz I'm new to this..and hi Exo-l !
This is one of my favorite videos ever.
Here just after watching the movie (stopmotion 2023). I would've never guessed that one of horror animators who shaped my childhood love of horror would go this far, thanks man!
I wasn't planning on sleeping anyways
Melanie Calan LOL You TOO? What an ODD short! Something I know I wouldn't have dreamt! So creative!
I remember when our English teacher showed this to us in eighth grade and everyone was on edge for the rest of the day😂
This was an absolute pleasure to watch. The acting and cinematography were surprisingly good, the animation a clever and picturesque touch, and the concept on the whole refreshingly idiosyncratic.
Over ten years old this short is and still amazing.
I can't even tell you how much I love this. It's my favorite thing on TH-cam.
Genuis. Such an underrated filmmaker. The two actors were brilliant.
This is one of those videos where I HAVE to save it to my favorites, or else years later it’ll bother me MORE that I can’t remember how to find it again.
Getting a real "The Thing" type of vibe. That would be the perfect sequel.
somehow I knew the younger man was the cat
Maybe because he had the face of the young boy?
Geckuno probably, maybe because he was to quiet, or maybe because I can sometimes make a good guess.
same
Saaaaaame!!!! I was super excited about it too😊
+melissa I think I saw you before commenting on squidwards suicide video or suicide mouse😜
For years nobody believed me when I said this existed because it was pre "everything is on the internet." days.
This gave me a discomfort beyond anything I've ever experienced in my life
Me too!! AMorrissey you said styrofoam and my body crinkled
What's wrong cat got your tongue
This is still my favorite short film of all time! Like, I honestly can't get over how perfect it is.
I was linked to this from a reddit post regarding Cthulhu, and frankly that's probably the most appropriate way to arrive here. Good work.
This gives a scary, literal twist to the phase: "Cat got your tongue." When you sit down and think about it.
true
I would've ended the film at the word tongue, but this is still one of my all time favorite short horror films.
That's too much like the current style of film, I like the ending where he finishes the song better.
what's the matter? cAt GoT yOu'Re ToNgUe?
0:58 You gotta admit the cat is pretty cute.
Wish this was longer. I can't stop repeating the video. That's how good this is.
I just got a reply to one of my comments and came here and so I had to watch it again. This is hands-down the creepiest little film I've ever seen. Totally chilling!
Jeepers.. Creepers.. where'd you get those peepers..
Jeepers.. Creepers.. where'd you get that face..
Better than Cats (2019).
This used to scare the crap outta me
That was surprisingly calming. Kitty just wants to be human. No kitty, it's better that you stay a cat. You don't want to become one of us monsters. Even I don't wish to be human sometimes.
Why do you wish not to be human sometimes?
Kam3man kitty can get more food that way.
I guessed what would happen right when it showed the mans face at 2:03
I looked at the eyes and said "Yup, that's the cat."
I honestly thought it was going going to be the other guy
Delta Memelines well for me it was that he looked like the boy in the flashback.
Delta Memelines Yeah, same here, exact same moment.
seriously this is actually awesome. I love the way it was made.
Why the hell would you stroke a cat with hands and also it eat a bird
Because it's interesting.
Seriously. Cat can pet it's own damn self.
Most cats eat birds.
It's a cat with motherfuckin hands that ate a bird whole, I wanna get on that bitch's good side.
shit if i pulled a small cat purring from a well i'd feel too damn bad for the poor thing to acknowledge its hands. if anything i'd feel even worse for the lil dude. like shit for all i'd know someone abandoned that cat there specifically bc of that. damn
Loved it, just the right amount of creepiness
I really wish Robert Morgan would upload on here more. I love his visual style and animation ability.
I bet this Video will be pushed via recommendation in the future
That kiss though
Years later and this is still the scariest shit I've seen

SCP creature who running out from organization.
i just featured your video on my topshock list and told my viewers to support your work. i hope you receive many a fan and customer!
The sound quality is really cool. Can't really put my finger on it but the voices are sharp, the leaves crack distinctly. Very cool short
And now it was full human
It all came so clear...
It will live the rest of it's life
A monster of fear..
The lip synced voices make it so much creepier
deserves much more views... barely if any western clips can give me the creeps
RESPECT
I love this! :D There just isn't enough stop motion horror out there
plot twist: he wanted to become a famous soundcloud rapper the whole time.
The Cat with Hands: I am the scariest cat video on youtube
Cats the movie: Hold my meow mix
Robert Morgan's films are phenomenal. I especially loved "the separation" and this is really good too.

Good sire why have you not won any awards yet? You simply must have some for this.
didnt creep me out till he took the tongue.
XD that was so funny, I had to laugh so much. Great job, I love this. It's also extremely well made. The sound, the voices, the colors, scenery, the actors and the quality are awesome

I doodled a cat with human hands at a boring uni lecture, someone seen it and started laughing. We googled it later.....
This has been one of my favorite movies for years!

Not been shared enough. Get out there and share it everywhere! :D

A cat with hands is fine too.
Holy toledo, that was creepy. Just... wow. The imagination and work that went into this is unreal. You, sir, are a master.

Wow! This was really good!
Nice creepy fairy tale with surreal imagery. the stop motion lends it that fantastical element better than CGI, and the CGI was, for once, not too overdone. Very nice.

What video?
Yes. I would like a full movie please.
awwww what't wrong? cat got your tongue?
I remembered this short film when I saw the trailer for the movie adaptation of musical "Cats".
Me encanta como Robet Morgan maneja lo ominoso.
This is the most amazing story... It's so abnormal and twisted. Amazing!
Last night as I slumbered I had a strange dream
One that seemed to bring distant friends near
I dreamt of the faces of people I loved
And I woke with a heart full of cheer.
This is amazing. If I was younger I'd probably be terrified by this.
I had to watch this in the 8th grade for a project XD
Last night as I slumbered I had a strange dream, / One that seemed to bring distant friends near. / I dreamt of the faces of people I loved, / And I awoke with an 'eart full of cheer.
Who wrote this poem/song?
That feeling when a video that has haunted your memories for a decade suddenly comes back because of a KYM article about dumb cat pictures.
