    I’m glad to hear that someone has had a good experience ordering plants online. I ordered 10 plants from proven winners last year and 8 of them arrived dead (wish I could attach a photo) and proven winners would not stand behind their plants. Just told me, “maybe they will revive”. It was just so much money wasted but hopefully I’ll get courageous again and order from some of the other companies you recommended. Thank you for all of your shared information!

      Hi Kelly, it can be hit or miss (sometimes) with ordering plants online, and there are horrible variables when it comes to shipping. I have a Little Lime Punch Hydrangea, for example, that got lost for 3 weeks on a FedEx truck. By the time it got to me, it was nearly dead. But luckily A) panicle hydrangeas can be easy to revive; and B) HomeDepot replaced the plant for me. However, still no blooms on that hydrangea two years later. I've had good luck with ordering directly from Proven Winners in Michigan -- but I'd never order from Proven Winners Direct, since they are based in California which means those plants are traveling a long way to get to me. Telling you "maybe your plants will revive" isn't a good answer. Another company I've been VERY happy with this year is Great Garden Plants. They are based in Michigan near Proven Winners so all of their plants are grown and chosen right there. Plus they always seem to offer discounts to email subscribers and offer gallon sizes in many cases. Maybe that's a possibility for you. 💗🌱

    This was a great video, Laura - packed full of useful information. In fact, I've already watched it several times, taken notes, and started ordering catalogs and visiting sites. ☺️ At first I was surprised at how many of these companies were new to me, but now I realize that makes sense. Until recently I've focused mostly on edibles.
    You've inspired me to make a video highlighting my own favorite catalogs and websites. They're fantastic, and I don't want anyone to miss out!

      Ooh I look forward to watching your video Kim and learning about your own favorites! That will be fun to watch! And I know I will do the same thing: take notes, visit websites and order catalogs. Can we ever have too many? 😂

    I appreciate you making this!! There was actually a couple I"ve never heard of! Putting a small veggie garden in this year. With the prices of food going up I think growing at least some of my own would be cheaper and healthier. The thrill of the hunt is exhilarating! I love thrifting and antiquing and get that same high that i do when I go to plant nursery!!!!

      Great to hear from you and glad you found some new places to order from! I completely agree with you about the thrill of plant hunting! 🙂 Great idea on a veggie garden - plus new garden projects are always fun. 🫑🍅🌽

    Great video, so helpful and clearly explained. I 'm a big fan of Bluestone -- love their peat containers and the small size actually works well for me as I have so many underground utilities in my yard.

      Thanks so much Alice! 😊 I agree with you: their containers are wonderful, and the small sizes are easy for me to tuck into the garden among underground sprinkler lines and our outdoor electrical lighting cables underground. (When I’m digging for a larger plant, it takes me awhile.) ❤️

    I just winter sown Poppies this year. Now is the time to put them in your garden. I live in 6b and they need a cold period of 6 to 8 weeks. Good luck and thank you for all this information in this video. I order all my seeds from Etsy. Try them out for hard to find seeds.

      Thanks so much Queen Sophie! Which kind of poppies did you sow? 🌱 Never thought about buying seeds via Etsy! Have you had good success with those seeds?

      @@GardenSanity I bought a bunch of seeds on Etsy because I wanted certain colors in my garden this year. I love buying from the shops on Etsy for seeds.I have done bread poppy, Pompon poppies, Sissinhurst poopies. I also get beautiful Asters seed, Cosmos, Zinnias and Larkspur seeds. Love all your videos.

      Thanks for sharing the varieties of poppies you grow, plus the other flowers! I really appreciate it! I bet it all looks lovely! 🌸🌺 Now if I can just decide on what I want to grow from seed, that would be a start! 😂

    I think putting in a special order with your local nursery works best. If you need something unusual, you should order before December because they order for next year in the fall. If you’re a good customer, you can get free delivery and you don’t have to buy anything that looks weak or stick-like. 😂

    • @GardenSanity
      @GardenSanity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      🤣 Stick-like! 😂 Nothing beats a great local nursery, especially as the plant sizes are usually much better! But I still like ordering online if it’s from a reputable company. (And I’m still telling myself that stick will turn into a tree!) 🧐

      @@SunrayStar It truly IS hilarious, because it just look so sad. Maybe I'll tie a pretty ribbon on it this year at the top and call it garden art!
