    Thank you for sharing your knowledge and LOVE of plants. You are extremely patient and you must be a joy to be around. Your grandsons are fortunate that you are helping them develop their character. So many people don’t spend enough time with young ones to nurture them. Keep teaching us about plant care!

      Good morning, Bernice. It's early in the quiet morning, just before the grandkids wake. It was nice waking to your visit. Life has been a struggle, so I really appreciate your kind words of encouragement.
      I wish you good health and happiness always, and have a great week :)

    You’re encouraged me to keep trying plants I don’t know anything about but I love spend time with them so thank you so much for share

      Hello, Maria
      When I was younger, I'd spend time and money on things that were a waste of time, but after having children, and more so, grandchildren, I needed a hobby that wouldn't be too costly and wouldn't "take me away" too far from my responsibilities.
      Plants seem to have meet that purpose. I feel a sense of accomplishment when they grow well, I sometimes get distracted when they don't do well, and I must investigate the reason, and I get a sense of relief that I can problem solve, but even if I fail, and the plant fails, it's a plant.
      Plants are beautiful. Even one plant in a room makes the room look a little more "alive" "fresh" and happy.
      Don't be discouraged. There is enough happening in this world that is discouraging. Find a plant that will remind you of the beauty in the world.
      I love the 'pink Chinese evergreen." Pink is a happy color and Chinese evergreens are usually hardy plants - just mind the 'perched water table' and do not over water, and these plants like indirect light - the brighter the better, but they can handle low light.
      Take care, my friend
      Gerald:)

      Good afternoon, Paul
      One thing I must update. Do not put a layer of gravel on the bottom of your pot unless it's a deep pot due to the perched water table, and the pink ones are beautiful, but it is less hardy than the dark green. One of my pink plants are thriving, but the other is struggling.
      You will enjoy your plant, it's beautiful and can tolerate low light.
      Gerald:)

    I got a great laugh from my gut when you talked about cleaning the leaves with a q-tip!

    • @PlantsaremyTherapy
      @PlantsaremyTherapy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Chela...
      You know,the first time I heard that I would have to use a Q-tip to clean a plant, I thought it was a silly waste of time and energy, but I've declared war on these pests, and I actually spend almost an hour cleaning a plant that was infested with scallies, but a q-tip didn't work. I submerged the entire plant in my koi pond over night, then I sat it on the patio to drain and dry. That is what killed the scallies. I'm glad it didn't kill the plant.
      Take care my friend,
      Gerald:)

    • @PlantsaremyTherapy
      @PlantsaremyTherapy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neem oil is very expensive in Hawaii because of shipping. Also, you mush read carefully, some "neem oil" is mixed with other cheaper oils. I got one that turned to to be a mixture. I found three neem trees, and I am hoping to make my own oil, but this tree doesn't flower and make seeds. I am trying to make elixir by sioaking the leaves in vodka. ALso, I heard crushing the leaves will work, but it leaves a green tint.

      Deya : Hi Deya 😊 I was thinking of you constantly these past few days. Ever since becoming a widow three years ago, I didn't feel like celebrating anything, including Christmas.
      Three years ago, I didn't celebrate Christmas out of respect😔. The past few Christmases after, I just didn't feel like it😐, but you're right😳. We celebrate Christmas for the children😑. My grandchildren lived through enough.. The loss of their parents, the loss of their grandmother 😞. I apologized to them yesterday, and I told them that we're going to learn how to celebrate Christmas again 🎄 If not for them, then so they know how important it is for their children 🌲

      Plants are my Therapy it means so much that anything I said could've resonated with someone in such a beautiful way. Thank you for sharing that...I'm just scrambling to find the right words here but my heart gets it so much, grief and loss are such personal things and it's such a lovely thing to know that there's always hope for something good to gradually grow out of something that's not easy to live through. I think that's why it's so easy to gravitate towards plants, they give us so many life analogies. I am truly happy for you and your family.

      You have a twin. I wish I had a ... actually. It was bad enough having my birthday on Thanksgiving. Ever have to endure a "Happy Birthday Leftover pumpkin pie?" It would be worse if I had to share it.
      I don't think our Russian friend speaks English
      У тебя есть близнец. Я бы хотел ... на самом деле. Было достаточно плохо иметь мой день рождения на День Благодарения. Вам когда-нибудь приходилось терпеть "С днем рождения оставшийся тыквенный пирог?" Было бы хуже, если бы мне пришлось поделиться этим.
      Я не думаю, что наш русский друг говорит по-английски
      U tebya yest' bliznets. YA by khotel ... na samom dele. Bylo dostatochno plokho imet' moy den' rozhdeniya na Den' Blagodareniya. Vam kogda-nibud' prikhodilos' terpet' "S dnem rozhdeniya ostavshiysya tykvennyy pirog?" Bylo by khuzhe, yesli by mne prishlos' podelit'sya etim.

      Thank you very much for visiting. I am trying to put together another video on only the pink variety.
      Strange: Once of my plants are struggling, and I think I discovered the problem, but I am waiting for it to recover, while the other plant has exploded with growth.
      Colorado! My best friend moved to Colorado! I heard that's the place to relocate if you're into skiing.
      The only place I had the courage to ski is on the bunny slope in Nevada's Mount Charleston. It was amazing, but I didn't advance because I had difficulty figuring out how to disembark the ski lift chair.

      Hello, Patrice
      I found your comment just now.
      without know much about your situation:
      Place the stalk in moist potting mix, not wet.
      Make sure you have the correct side of the stalk downwards
      Place it in a place where it can get bright indirect light, no direct light
      If your area is dry, place in a Ziploc bag to retain moisture.
      do no fertilize until the plant leaves are well established
      I wish you mush success, and keep me updated

    Thanks for this very helpful video :) How often do you spray your plants? Would you say it’s ok to do this once a month to keep the pests away?

    • @PlantsaremyTherapy
      @PlantsaremyTherapy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I noticed any mealy bugs, I go extreme and spray it heavily after removing all visible pests, then I check and spray if needed, but if I'm straying another plant, I would also spray the plants that had pests because I already have the spray bottle out, I may as well use it. Neem oil doesn't seem to harm the plant.
      Kung napansin ko ang anumang mga bug sa mealy, pumunta ako ng labis-labis at i-spray ito nang husto pagkatapos alisin ang lahat ng mga nakikitang peste, pagkatapos ay i-tsek at i-spray kung kinakailangan, ngunit kung naliligaw ako ng isa pang halaman, sisiping ko rin ang mga halaman na may mga peste dahil mayroon na ako ang bote ng spray, maaari ko rin itong gamitin. Ang langis ng Neem ay hindi mukhang makapinsala sa halaman.

    thanks for the information. I have a dark green and pink or red Chinese evergreen, and one stem broke off without roots. I put it in water with growth hormones, I change the water once or twice a week but it is not doing well Do you have any ideas?thanks

    • @PlantsaremyTherapy
      @PlantsaremyTherapy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's strange.
      One of my pink Chinese evergreen broke off without roots, and I put it in water, and it grew root buds, but I was worried I would forget to put it in soil, so I didn't wait for roots to develop, I just place it in soil, put it under a table in my patio to enjoy bright indirect light and frequent watering. So far, it's sad but still alive. Its leaves are drooping, but if the leaves weren't so pretty, I would have cut of all but one leaf to less stress the plant. So far, I'm afraid to touch it. the leaves aren't turning brown or yellow and it's been over a week, so I'm hoping.🤞
      Without knowing too much information about your cutting:
      Drying: Let the cutting dry for at least half a day. It will wilt, but I noticed soft stem plants will rot if placed directly into water.
      Water: use filtered water or water that has been sitting out (open) to let the chlorine dissipate. Once the water smells foul, bad (anaerobic) bacteria has colonized to change the water more frequently at least once every other day, but it's best to avoid that.
      Light: Bright indirect light, not direct light.
      Temperature: tropical temperature 70-90*F
      Remove as much unnecessary leaves as possible. More leaves require more energy for the plant, but we need the plant to focus it's energy on growing roots. Sometimes "I wanted to have my cake, and eat it too." I'm sure I'm using that adage (aphorism) correctly. I thought it was a stupid 'old adage' because who'd want to just have a cake and not want to eat it... darn... now I want cake.

      Hello Hadi,
      Mine too! Well, it's not dead yet, but it got infested with mealy bugs, then it died back and only recently is sending out new shoots, but the 'Sparkling Sarah' Chinese Evergreen - which is green with pink stems (not as beautiful) is thriving. I don't know why it's struggling. I'm going to repot it today to investigate possible reasons.
      I suspect the plant is having trouble with the perched water table in the pot, or maybe the soil mixture is off.
      I'll let you know, but it's annoying! This plant wasn't cheap!

    • @PlantsaremyTherapy

      I overpaid for a neem tree in Hawaii. The only source of a Neem tree was $20/1424.80 Rupee for a 10 inch/24cm plant, and these plants don't fruit. the flowers do not have any sex organs. I heard neem oilis made from the berries or fruits of the neem tree. I have not been successful in propagating the neem tree by cuttings either - neither by soil, sand, or water. I wish I could buy fresh seeds to plant, but I live in Hawaii. Difficult to travel.

      @@PlantsaremyTherapy When this tree matures it has yellow berries. But let me tell you its leaves have medicinal properties. Its sticks were used to chew on every morning which was alternative to brushing teeth.

    The red siam Chinese evergreen and tropical Chinese evergreens also handle low light well. They may be labeled with various nicknames but probably the same.
    Avoid the pink moon Chinese evergreen. Those leaves are hard and crack if not given the high humidity, while having mainly dry soil.

      Thank you, my friend. These new cultivars are fast becoming my favorite. I wanted to make the red siam grow faster, so I gave it much more light with a few hours of direct light, and it does grow fast, but the color fades. I hope to have many of these plants by the end of the year.

      These plants do well in potting mix, if you have the desire to go further:
      2 parts Potting mix to 1 part Perlite for the bottom 1/2 of the pot, &
      100% potting mix for the top 1/2 of the pot.
      No layer of gravel on the bottom of the pot.
      No layer of sand/gravel/or decorative stones on the top

      @PlantsaremyTherapy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Ebbilous.
      I cannot oversell neem oil. It is natural and environmentally friendly and safe for humans and pets, but it protects plants ans kills parasites. If you live on the mainland, and not isolated on a chain of islands, you may be able to get a hold of neem oil for cheap. Mix only a couple of teaspoons in a gallon of water, and spray it on your plants (not in the direct sun).
      take care,

    Omg don’t get gnats they are the worst. I have tried everything to include a organic gnat killer and bug lights and still have gnats.I’m about to repot my giant Chinese evergreen in hope that will help.

    • @PlantsaremyTherapy
      @PlantsaremyTherapy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is how I deal with gnats as soon as I see them. I take the plants outside, and I hose them down. I absolutely drench the plant. Then I leave the plant outside to dry in the shade and over night if not too cold. Then I drench it in the morning again, shooting water in between the leaves and leave it to dry until the end of the day, and then I bring the plant back inside and don't water it for a week. That like Hurricane Katrina to gnats!

    • @edie4771
      @edie4771 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PlantsaremyTherapy Thank you for your response. Because of the heavy constant on and off rain here in GA, there is a heavy infestation of gnats outside. I can’t risk doing that so I purchased an organic powder for gnats to sprinkle in 2” deep. It is for all kinds of bugs to include gnats. Day 2 and it appears to be helping.
