It is really important to know how to clean a dirty ac unit. If a air conditioner is dirty, the ac unit may not blow cold air and may not last as long. I Kendall Todd and Monica Todd show you how to clean a air conditioner unit the easy way to get it done right. It is important to not let too much water get into where the cold air blows out as it may blow water out, if water gets in, a towel may be stuck in to dry some of the water up. Please let us know if this video on how to clean a ac unit, or how to clean a air conditioner video diy helped you to clean your air conditioner and to help the air to blow colder.
Please tell me if I helped you to learn how to clean an air conditioner and do servicing AC cleaning at home and to remove bad smell for air conditioner. I am using frost king in the above video. It is actually a ac unit kit sometimes as there may be a cap sometimes and as the cap can be used toclean a dirty ac unit as well. It helps to

Frost King ACF19 Foam Coil Cleaner, can be used for the outside coils
Frost King Air Conditioner Foaming Cleaner keeps your home cooler and more comfortable when the mercury rises. It is a heavy-duty detergent-based product for maximum cleaning power. for a window unit and other type of ac units including central air. Your air conditioner will look and perform its best when you use it. Frost King air conditioner coil cleaner can also be used for car radiators, lawnmower engines, refrigerators and freezer coils and more. It easily removes pollutants like dirt, grease, and oil. This no-rinse foaming coil cleaner comes in a 19 oz aerosol can with a special 360-degree valve that allows spraying in virtually any position.
An heavy duty foam detergent coil cleaner in the convenience of an aerosol can. For use on most coils such as window air conditioners, central HVAC units, auto radiators, condenser and evaporator coils, metal filters, fan blades and more. Water based. This product can be sprayed in any position while the blasting stream easily reaches into tight areas. The aggressive detergent quickly and easily liquefies dirt, grease, oil or other residue and deposits. The clinging foam is completely self-rinsing on condensate producing coils. Simply spray on and condensation generated will wash away the material. Cleaning coils increases efficiency and saves money. Directions: Turn off or disconnect power to unit being serviced. Shake well. Remove cap and point toward surface to be cleaned. Thoroughly saturate the targeted area with product. With this self-rinsing formula, the foam will break and condensation accumulation will rinse the emulsified material. Scrubbing cap is great for removing large, imbedded pieces of debris. You may wipe clean or rinse with water if desired or if using on non-condensation producing coils. For extremely stubborn or heavy deposits, repeat application may be necessary. Turn on or return power to unit.
is a high performance, heavy-duty detergent, specifically formulated with special surfactants and alkaline cleaners that have been developed into foaming, no-rinse product. The aerosol product can be sprayed either right side up or upside down and is ideal for use on most coils, but particularly suited for cooling or evaporator coils.

This video helped me so much! I live in an apartment and haven’t ever cleaned my AC unit 🤦🏼‍♀️ I am using vinegar instead of bleach to avoid the fumes - and vinegar is just as effective at cleaning and removing mold as bleach! Just wanted to point that out for anyone watching in the future :) I am sure my AC is going to work so much better now and my allergies won’t be “mysteriously” acting up!

So satisfying to see the coils super clean. I learned my lesson about cleaning my A.C. every season when it started to agitate my allergies. I opened it up and found some mud/sludge that built up from several storms this summer.
All these companies should be required to install drain plugs at the bottom. That way people can let the water out once it gets cold and take it out to clean.

Awesome job. I got one used for the garage and blew it out with hose- simple green for the coils and bleach for the blower fan and duct. Be careful not to get electric parts wet as you have to wait a few days for the electronics to dry out before it will stop blowing breaker and operate correctly.

My unit is disgusting, waiting for grandson to help and it quit with a E8 error code. Telling me its too Hot and too HUMID. no joke. Ugh I reset as told by manufacturer but all I could find on cleaning it was major deep cleans with 1000 parts to reconnect. Or this video. Thank God!!!! Very detailed. Appreciate showing me in detail but time lapsing tedious redundant work. Beautiful balance of both! Made me feel like I can get the mold out of it. Thank you so much!

I tried the dry brushing with the toothbrush and some canned air just on my own, but i knew there had to be a better, more thorough way of cleaning it completely! I'm in an apartment, and mine is mounted in the wall, so i can't take it out like so many others show. This was exactly what i was looking for, thank you so much!

Good video. But there is also coils on the rear of the machine. The inside of the rear coils can get completely plugged up with leaves, dirt, and debris from dust and leaves from the fall. If you don't want to take apart the A/C cover to get it super clean, you can spray a hose on the fine stream setting straight into the back. It will dislodge the dirt from the rear outside fins. Don't worry about getting the inside wet, because the part of the air conditioner that's outside gets wet in the rain anyways. This will make the air a whole lot cooler and more efficient.

    • @TheMendo123

Used the toothbrush trick shown int he video to really get in there nice and tight. Problem is I'd have to remove the ac from tbe window to unscrew the front casem did however much as I could do. you can also use a tampon or a pad to absorb water in a window ac unit. for inside where the fan is, tie a string to the string of the tampon then drop it into the fan section, you can repeatedly squeeze the water out then drop it back in. just repeat the process till you're satisfied. for the pad, place it flush against the front coils and make sure you put the edge of the pad in the little space in the front coils. I know it's odd and some may say it's disgusting but just to clarify, I'm only suggesting the use of a NOT YET USED tampon and pad...

For me this was helpful. Primarily in not having to remove the unit, take it outside, place on a table which would have to be fetched from the garage, unscrew the many more screws and clean the whole thing--I'm not up for it, and I know my menfolk will be resistant to the idea. I think your approach gets the unit as clean as it REASONABLY can be. There is a product called Frost King which might eliminate the toothbrush scrubbing; it's a spray-on foam, requires no rinsing, and it just drips away the dirty foam. But it might also be that in the end, human hands with a toothbrush can achieve better results! In either case plenty of paper towels are in order. It was also helpful to see that you had a team of two, brainstorming the idea of keeping the electric stuff dry within a plastic bag, and running and fetching the attachments to the shop vac. I find that moral support--doing an unpleasant job with a buddy--can be uplifting and turn a bad chore by one person into a task accomplished that both can be pleased with.

It is good to find someone that has the same unit I have. Q? How did you clean the fan on the upper part. This is a new unit for us. I use to clean the old unit. Thank you for the video. It is on my save list.

I appreciated the video. The one question I did have, however, is how do you clean deep inside the A/C unit where black mold is still present (without removing the A/C unit from the wall)?

Let your wife know the shiny metal is aluminum, which is softer type metal that conducts hot or cold temps aaaand it bends easily so be careful not to bend the flange type coils.

Forgot to ask. On you outside frame. Did you open up any of holes that had a small disk covering that looked like they are spot welded. If you could show the outside framing and if you clean that would help a lot. My husband didn't open the holes said we didn't have to but instructions mentions the holes. Sorry so long.

Although 2 years old and just now in my feed, those are called fins and not coils. You also can buy a fin cleaner/straightener at Lowes or Home Depot( I had a set years ago when I did maintenance at a hotel in NC.) Didn't know you could take the face off like that. Will definitely clean mine now this way, with a twist or two. Thanks.
