Thanks for the video , those demolition equipment drivers are skilled , you just don't appreciate how good they are until you watch something like this
This would have been unthinkable only 20 years ago, but several hotels up at South Shore have suffered a similar fate. Changing social patterns, foreign holidays and easy access to Blackpool have meant that most families no longer spend a week or two at the seaside as in the past. Blackpool has suffered as a consequence, which is very sad, especially when one has sen the resort in its heyday. The Ambassador Hotel was probably in its prime during the 1930s and the following decades until the 1980s.
It is always sad when you see old buildings with character being demolished. All new builds look he same. Inside with all the modern facilities they look good. If they can be renovated then great. This one was clearly going to be more cost effective by destroying. I guess the new houses/hotel/flats or what ever will take it's place will keep the hotels name (hopefully) However sadly, it is one of many and more to come, losses of past times as we knew it . Not only for Blackpool, all over. Great timing for this one! Well Done!
I always felt that hotel could have been fixed up. Even with it's structural issues, I had seen much worse condition buildings being corrected and restored

There's one scaffolding company here in Vienna that had a few embarassing accidents in the past 20 years or so. I'd usually change my route on windy days if I saw any signs of that contractor!

Some of them girders etc, will run through both properties.

I wonder whether the owners of the building have been waiting for this opportunity for quite a while. The building looks as though it has long since got into too bad a state of disrepair to do anything with. I hope Blackpool Council pass on the bill for the demolition to the owner and compel him to deal with the bomb site and redevelop it within a reasonable period. If he won't do it because there is not enough profit for him then, take the site off him and get somebody else to redevelop it. I would think that because it is an end terrace of a whole block the replacement building will have to match the rest of the row.
Problem with taking site off him is that they are then liable for all the costs!!! Covid19 has fucked councils up big time & the last thing they need is extra costs. Owners will just go bankrupt & walk away, what can the authorities do!! Sweet FA!!
If a building is left to decay and becomes an inevitable eyesore, it is strangely easier to gain permission for planning applications on the basis that they will represent an improvement on what is there..
