    I saw Enzo in Blackwood Asda. He said he was looking for his wife. I said, joking, 'try the shoe aisle', and we both laughed. Saw him again at the tills and he said 'you were right'. True story.

    I met Mike Tyson and his wife in a elevator at a hotel in Phoenix, Az in 2011, he said hello and his wife nodded hello. He said "You with that wedding?" I said yes, he said, "you all are playing good music." I was going to invite him to my cousin's wedding reception but the doors opened he said "you all have fun!" and walked out. I just stood there like, "I just spoke to Mike Tyson! Hahaha.

      I would've but I as so nervous and excited by the encounter. Believe me, I think about that ever since. His wife took our picture and you can see in my face I was a nervous wreck. He was a very cordial and nice couple.

    I met Joe Calzaghe in Cardiff when I was living there. He was with his son and my mate spotted him and asked if he could take a picture of me with him because I'm a big fan. I thought it was perhaps a bit cheeky but Joe didn't mind at all. He put his arm around me and put on a big smile for the picture then chatted to me for a couple of minutes gave me a hug and said "thanks for the support mate". I don't give one what other people think about him. He's a legendary boxer and a true gentleman!

    why so much hate for calzaghe? 46-0 former WBO, IBF, WBC, WBA, He held the WBO for 10 years with 21 defences which is the longest ever at super middleweight. He also spanked lacy who was meant to be the next big thing... it's a shame the top boys in the states refused to fight him.

      +Dinglebell you forgot ring magazine champion too which incredibly seems to be worth more than all those world title organisation belts.. incredible fighter incredible heart, injuries ruined him could of fought on for a lot longer as he had unbelievable stamina but the hand just wouldn't hold up and he lost power due to it later in his career

      Ok il break it down only cause ur a nob. 1. He fought a bunch of tomato cans.2. Always fought in wales or Europe. 3. Only fought out of country when he knew jones and bhop were shells of their former selves4. Win against bhop highly controversial and point blank REFUSED to give a rematch stating ' I don't do rematches ' lol like wtf?? 5. Refused to fight Pavlik who at that time was in his prime and a big name6. Lacy only had 17 fights when slappy fought him and again in wales. 7. Fought an old jones who still dropped slappy in rnd 1. 8. In the 90s jones was the p4p top 5 possibly even number 1 so he was the cash cow and didn't need to chase ANY European fighter especially on foreign turf and slappy refused to travel to try and unify the titles. And tbh I could go on we in the states or America don't really respect like u brits do however I do recognise him to be a talented fighter who slapped da shit out of people but no way a great and I don't give a flying fuck what he unified as his record is full of shit!

      +Chris Bako I don't think that was the point of the story. What he's trying to say is that coming from a world champ who trained himself in a wooden tool shed him and his dad especially were very dissalussioned with the whole fake plastic celebrity act that some of these hyped up boxers get into especially coming from a bum fighter Tyson who was looking down at a fighter like Joe who in his short time of 2 bouts in Las Vegas managed to defeat more hall of farmers than in mikes entire career so it was very disrespectful for him to not even recognise Joe.

    • @Pirosbor
      @Pirosbor 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @chris
      Um....being a badass has nothing to do with whether he could take Tyson in a fight, ya dense plonker. The fact that despite his small stature he had no qualms with putting one of the most feared boxers (feared because of both raw power and aggressive, unpredictable temperament) in check for such a minor breach of etiquette. That, my dear feeble-minded fellow, is a badass!

    I used to box, so I am aware of the regiment. Even if I never boxed, I don't think that would disqualify me from commenting on Calzaghe, so long as I am a boxing fan who has some knowledge of his career and the sport itself. I respect people here who make comments, but may not have boxed before. Also, I didn't comment on his work ethic, just his career. By your calculus, no one would be able to ever comment about any boxer, because of the grueling training they go through.

  • @Raymondspongey

    Can you imagine the fuss they would have made of Calzaghe if he was English instead of Welsh? the English media show more respect to Frank Bruno or Henry Cooper who won fuck all, but happened to be a cockney and put Ali on his arse . Calzaghe is awesome.

    I'm not sure of everyone else's reasons, but my gripe is that he had the talent to come over to the U.S. earlier. The U.S. is where all the elite fighters come to settle who's best, at least for everything above flyweight. My second problem is that he still had a lot left in the tank when he retired. A lot of the opponents on his record were no bodies, and with his last two fights he was starting to make a real case for his talent. As a result, people are left to question him.

    Calzaghe was a good boxer (on a scale of 1 to 10, he was 7.5 maybe), even if he ended his career undefeated... Never really fought nobody... In my opinion, he was just a fucking slapper... P.S. For the guy saying that he was the best UK boxer of all times, pull yourself together mate: everyone knows, that was Lenox fucking Lewis...

      You'd be surprised exactly how complicated Mike's life was. I've done weeks worth of research on the guy, and his life was one hell of a mess. It was all good up until Cus died, then he fell into a state of rage and sadness due to his insecurities that eventually led to clubbing, fucking women, doing drugs, and drinking like a fish to cope. He has autism (Autistic people get obsessed over things they find interesting. Some Autistic people love sonic the hedgehog, Mike loved boxing) so he had a very fragile social shell that came crashing in around him because one person after another fucked his life up. His legal guardian and best friend died, he was about to call the world heavyweight championship fight because he didn't have the heart for it anymore, his wife degraded him on public television and then divorced him, Don King screwed him out of what must have been close to a billion dollars, by the time he had been undisputed champ he was only fighting for the money and had grown to hate what the sport had become (he says he walked into the ring to fight Buster Douglas after spending 2 weeks doing nothing but fucking Japanese groupies and doing drugs because he just didn't care anymore) that one groupie claimed he raped her and he was convicted to 6 years in prison (look into her, and then look at Iron Mike... It isn't hard to tell that he wasn't the type of guy that would rape a woman. You think he HAD to rape anyone? He was IRON FUCKING MIKE, he could have made more money charging women to smash than he made boxing back then). He spent literally every dime he made on dumb shit just because he was trying to fill a bottomless void in himself, and even today when he's 3 million (estimated) in debt with the IRS, he will tell you he's a billion times happier now than he was back then, and he wouldn't go back to that lifestyle even if he could.
      Oh, and his 4 year old daughter was found strangulated by a treadmill at his ex wife's house back in 2008...

  • @s0und350
    @s0und350 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is very true, but then again I wouldn't consider Calzaghe to be in his prime when he fought Jones either. I do understand why people would think he dodged some serious competition in his career, but a record of 46-0 still speaks for it's self i think.

    What you're saying is true, but to use Calzaghe's age as a marker is disingenuous. Clearly Hopkins had a tougher career, and his body was a lot more worn. Calzaghe hardly fought anyone of note until his last three fights. His body was still fresh. Moreover, Hopkins was going between middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight classes by the time he fought Calzaghe, which also takes its toll. Calzaghe stayed at super middleweight almost his entire career.

      Calzaghe was training for his next fight in the same place Tyson was, when Calzaghe heard about this he wanted his picture taken with him. Being a fellow fighter himself he expected a mutual respect from Tyson, like a lot of fighters usually do have for each other.
      But Tyson just sat there and didn't smile and seemed uninterested when Calzaghe's father was taking the picture of him and Tyson, so Calzaghe's father said "Are you going to smile then...!?" Tyson being the big crazy intimidating guy he is and Calzaghe's father only being small, Calzaghe thought Tyson was going to rip his head off.
      But Tyson just calmly said "I've had a long day man, i'm pretty tired..." Calzaghe met Tyson later and noted how different and friendly he was to him afterwards, with Tyson asking him about his life and family, he seemed completely different.
      Calzaghe also thought he was a bit of a crazy character when Tyson ranted on about Don King screwing him over, calling Don King a mother fucker and saying he wanted to eat his Don's children!.

    Some fighters are old in their mid thirties, others are young till there early 40's. Roy went up to Heavyweight and sacrificed his speed when he came down. Joe was still at his best at 36, he beat a washed up dried out 39 year old Jones. If Roy was Peak and Joe was peak, Roy's speed and power would have left Calzaghe with a 45-1 record, Also, the b-hop of the late 90's would have left Joe with a 44-2 record. Joe fought them as old men to make his career look flashier. Top fighter still though.

    You seemed to take my last comment out of context. The best fighters from all over the world come to the US to fight, meaning the competition is not just American. That said, Jones and Hopkins were certainly not the best the US had to offer in the way of competition at that time. Lacy fought Calzaghe in the UK and was a B class fighter, which is in line with my previous remarks about Calzaghe. 2 worn and 1 untested American fighters is a far cry from putting the best Americans in front of you.

    Joe Calzaghe is a great boxer - retired undefeated 46-0 - probably could have found 4 'easy' fights to break Rocky Marciano's record but way too classy to do that (not that any pro fight is easy - but for a fighter of Joe's caliber there probably is).

    Why didn't he fight RJJ when he was 29? Or Hopkins when he was younger? Typical Euro move---come to America and fight their legends after they get old. Lennox Lewis did that too. Hatton gets respect, at least he came over and fought our best in his prime at age 29/30 against Mayweather. And the result of that fight is why they don't come over in their prime. :)

    Indicative of the flaws(Tyson) which were so graphically exposed by above all; Evander Holyfield....he(Tyson) would have done well to have studied the fights and character of Joe Calzaghe; i am in no doubt he would have had a more successful career....a truth many of the feeble and jaundiced of mind will find hard to swallow.
