  • Fellow Legends, welcome! Today we dive into another excellent JonTron video. This time, we have quite the interesting book series adapted as a television series. Many of us remember Animorphs. But, oh boy, does this give a completely different spin on the series. I absolutely recommend that you go and check out JonTronShow, and you should definitely go ahead and check out the original video to show some support for the source material!

    I love the idea that Jontron saw Jake 'hide' behind that bush and immediately took it upon himself to go outside in the snow and find one for a two second cutaway clip. XD

    I feel like if I read the books as a kid I would have made them my whole personality. Apparently they're absolutely brutal. 'Animorphs 101: You Have NO IDEA What You Slept On' is a fun summary if you've got the time, but not the time to read all the books.

    • @Tsurf
      @Tsurf 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      To give you an idea of how brutal the books are, in the books winding down the series to the finale, our heroes are quite literally standing before the book's equivalent of the Hague's Court on trial for the _war crimes_ they had committed during the events of the series. Those kids have been through some *serious* stuff.

    You should know that the books actually think these powers through a lot. If your human form is crippled or mutilated you can transform into an animal and because it completely rewrites your DNA in the process you can obtain new limbs and stuff.

    This video unironically made me read the books for the first time, and I'm kinda glad I did because they're pretty good so far, definitely not as awkward as the show for sure

      As a veteran fan with a shelf full of all 61 books, there're a couple of really weird ones, but generally the books will keep getting more interesting as everyone builds up different traumas :3

    Animorphs is one of those series that undersells the grimdark tone of the setting until you actually start reading the books, something the show just couldn't match because the show writers were idiots.
    Bear in mind, these are *children* , they are barely in their teens and they are essentially conscripted into an intergalactic conflict by being guerilla fighters. They are literally just five kids (eventual joined by a very young Andalite named Ax) who are up against a race of parasites that infest and imitate their hosts (meaning you can only tell if they are compromised by rapid or strong enough changes in behavior), along with their shock troops and space ships, and the ONLY weapon these children have is a scientific miracle to copy the dna and transform into any animal, from flies to dogs to tigers, with a hard time limit of 2 hours before being TRAPPED IN MORPH FOREVER. And! They are completely on their own with zero reinforcements from the Andalites.
    The amount of trauma the Animorphs endure is staggering, and the series' ending is really, really dark.

    to be clear, jokes aside: the andalites can shapeshift anturally and at will, the cube is just to share their powers with other races. VIsser Three can only shpaeshift while possessing an andalite body, and also wanted to taunt his nemesis about what he had now. So its not like he "chose" to appear as an andalite, its essentually his base form for the story.

    The books got wild, it been a long while but one point that still sticks out, one plot was that the main crew had a mole (pun absolutely intended) and from what I remember they weren’t even a really evil traitor, just made a poor choice at a hard time. Anyways they end up trapping them in the form of an animal, maybe a lizard, forever and just abandoned them lmao

      It was a kid who wanted to abuse his powers iirc. He was tricked into turning into a mouse then put in a jar and left on an island; telepathically screaming for mercy as the team boated away

    • @Tsurf
      @Tsurf 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It's still a stark memory of mine because even 10 year old me was like, "...there's literally no other way aside from killing him."
      And that last page talking about how rumors of the island they left him on was haunted was...well, haunting. Plus, they had to sit there "listening" to his screams and begging for 2 hours until the morph stuck too...those kids honestly are way more hardcore than they have any right to be.

  • @FlaschenJoe11
    @FlaschenJoe11 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    The books don't actually say the ages...but in a later book, they elude how many years have passed...
    The kids were conscripted at 13.

      That's from the 3rd Megamorphs book "Elfangor's Secret". The Megamorphs were ensemble stories where each of the Animorphs contribute to the story, whereas the main books are told from a singular perspective.
