    This was a really helpful video if you are new to reserved instances. I'm working on ways of identifying specific VMs which are not utilizing a reserved instance at all, as well as reporting on my reserved instance utilization. If you have any guidance on that it would be appreciated. My initial approach though will either be API calls using PowerShell or PowerBI.

    Good info again Travis! One thing though. So if I understand correctly, after purchasing a reserved instance, the scope you selected is leading towards where the discount is applied? There’s no need to apply it to a specific vm?

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct, it automatically applies to a resource type that matches the reservation.

    Great! And how do we know which vms are applied to this RI if I've couple of vms in that size? And i believe there's no downtime/ user permission issues during/after the purchasing process?

    What happens if I want to increase the size of the VM say D2 instance after purchasing the reservation say B2 instance?

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the VM is in the same instance size flexibility group the reservation could be partially applied. That doesn't seem to be the case going from a D2 to B2. You could exchange the reservation for a new one. docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/billing/billing-azure-reservations-self-service-exchange-and-refund

    Can we able to look reservations with account member access in azure portal ???

    Why is it that reservations do not work for storage and yet as you use the Azure calculator for an estimate,the reservation option for storage shows up and when you actually choose a 1 year reservation,the price just shoots up instead of going down?

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a large minimum when purchasing storage reservations. Its changes the quantity to 1PiB when the reservation is selected in the calculator. docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/storage-blob-reserved-capacity?toc=/azure/cost-management-billing/reservations/toc.json#determine-required-capacity-before-purchase

    Hello Travis
    You didn't show how to choose the OS during the reservation, and the other info like the username and password and the rest of requirements.... How that could be done?
    Thank you

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      OS and other OS settings are part of the server deployment. Reserved instances is applied to server hardware no matter what OS or other settings are used.

    Can I assign the new reserved VM to any resource group which I want or I have to select the scope as a resource group at the beginning?

    • @Ciraltos
      @Ciraltos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can change the scope the reservation is applied to after it's purchased docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/reservations/manage-reserved-vm-instance#change-the-reservation-scope
