You need to get through a written examination, then a physical and medical examination and then an interview....all this and it doesn't guarantee entry, you need at least 4 years of training as an officer..... This makes anyone being in the military immense respect in society..... Getting the uniform is hard here, it is EARNED.....

The ENTRY is purely voluntary. There is no conscription or an uniform compulsory military service in India. Once in, you get PAID. You dont have to work for free. There is an excellent remuneration package. Common grocery is subsidized as are house hold appliances and motor cycles or cars. The Army Medical Corps provides health care. They even have their own medical school in Pune, India. Armed Forces Medical College. In addition all over the country there are boarding schools run on lines of military academies called Sainik ( Army in Hindi) Schools where after a tough entrance exam, you can get a completely free education, Many of the students opt to become professional life long army officers. They have to go through training at National Defence Academy after selection through a tough entrance examination, To many so called martial groups ( as classified by the British) they are communities in India who traditionally serve in the Army like the Sikhs. To them it is a CALLING more than a career. I think that is enough for now.:):)
