I can't believe this song, and the entire album was released 18 yrs ago in 1990.I read that this song peaked at number 1 on U.S Modern Rock Charts. The Sundays are one of the best underrated bands of all time!
33 years now. Hope you're fine, wherever you are.
@@MrBrno You and yours too friend :)
This is the oldest comment I've ever seen. And it is about song released 18 years before
bro are u still alive?
@@michaelangelo1202 Let's hope so?
reminds me of my time in college in the early 90s at UCLA, spending most of it in coffee houses, meeting my girlfriend at the time; carefree; idealistic; alive; listening to it now is quite depressing - memories of times long gone
The Sundays are too underrated
The song is pure bliss. The vocalist is so beautiful, her voice, and she herself.
She is just pure loveliness if there is such a word! Her husband is an extremely fortunate man and great songwriter!
@batphink2655 - Veru much so!
@@danlc95 Your reply is so natural I could've thought you wrote it 15 years ago
One of my fave English bands - very underrated outside the UK.
son británicos? la banda?
@@lucecitar.1906claro, son de Bristol, Inglaterra
La mejor voz femenina, lo siento pero es cierto, la voz de esta preciosa mujer es la mejor de todos los tiempos
i lay on the couch with my daughter watching her go through her facebook meanwhile running a seperate tab of my music.she always changes her favorites to mine.she loves this stuff........................
Hearing this and I'm straight back in the early 90s and in my early 20s watching MTV's Alternative Nation late at night. I miss those days. The 90s were great. Great music and bands.
Every sunday night discovering great new music : Lush, Curve, Cranes, PJ Harvey, Heather Nova, Mazzy Star... When Mtv was all about music !
johan bauwens Amen to that brother. By mentioning those great names I know you know exactly what I'm talking about!
Cuando escuchar está canción un domingo al medio día, dejaste la comida y aseo hecho y te das una ducha para disfrutar el descanso laboral y te das cuenta que la vida tiene sus momentos bellos.❤
Harriet Wheeler's crystalline voice delivers light and pure soul without a trace of mawkishness. And the band chimes perfectly with great clarity and resonance. Classic, deep pop by an underrated outfit.
Even after 34 years I adore this song and Harriet Wheeler's voice...it was love at first listen.
This is such a pretty and underestimated song. One of the most beautiful records you never hear on the radio anymore. Heartbreaking, melancholic, simple, but awesome. Love this song forever! 👌
Heard it today while grocery shopping. (already in my favorites list for years.) I'm 71 in Massachusetts.
It was, it is now, and it will be, my favourite song.
Pure emotion, pure soul, pure joy tears
+Ruben Garcia Shows what you can do with two chords and a fabulous melody x
I'm agree with you, this song always brings me inner peace...thanx, Slim
They're the greatest band to ever exist
' I never should have said the books that you read are all I loved you for. . '
one of the best lyrics ever
Beautiful memories of being a senior in high school...'91-'92, listening to this song at the coffee shop, with it raining outside. The friends, the girls in my life, the rain, the smell of the coffee... it's imprinted in my memory...for eternity...
the english know how to write a riff that sounds like falling rain
its our sunshine
It's all we ever hear!
Great words young man !!
***** it's a nice song. If that's Johnny Marr playing the sound of rain at the end he's an even bigger genius than i thought :)
12inchvertical What a beautiful comment.
It's been 23 years and I still can't get enough of this song.
I had not heard this song in 20 years when I stumbled onto it and it brought me back to my sad year of 1992 when I had just separated from my then wife and infant daughter. This song was the representation of how I exactly felt that year.
Sometime later in 1993 I was walking up Kentish Town Road and I spotted Harriet the singer passing by. I walked up to her and asked her if she was indeed the singer of 'The Sundays'. Instead of her being cautious we suddenly got on like a house on fire, she was as curious about me as I was of her.
Needless to say she was even more beautiful in person from the photos and I felt my heart strings flutter. To this day I can't think as to why after a handful of blocks I suddenly said I had to go another direction and I noticed with at least a hint of disappointment Harriet say,"Oh. Do you have to go then?" Maybe it was because the end of my marriage was still so red raw and her song was the soundtrack to that end. But most likely it was probably because I was a chicken to walk further on with her.
Although I never got back with my wife and we're friends today and I see my daughter and I am happily remarried for many years with the woman of my dreams, when I played that song back tonight I sobbed so hard I feel out of my chair choking. Such a powerful song; It brought it all back.
What a story.
soundvisionary13 That's really an amazing story.
+soundvisionary13 this is amazing.. almost like poetry.. at least you have a great story to tell man, so don't feel sad, not all people get to experience special stuff like that
+soundvisionary13 Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!Right to my heart!
You shoulda fucked the singer
Summer 1990. Up late. Watching 120 Minutes on MTV. This came on. Life. Changed.
I first saw this video (the first time I ever heard the song) on MTV when I lived in Texas in 1990 and I knew instantly it was one of the best tracks I'd ever heard. It ranks in my top 10 favorites of all time. I was completely sold as a fan of the Sundays and bought everything they ever released since. They're fantastic and Harriet is a true songbird.
I heard this song at a gig I played in Waterdown On ,Canada with the girl I thought I'd marry. This song nearly gave me an out of body experience so asked the bar owner who it was. How did I miss this is in the 90's? What a lovely voice and song! My girl ditched me 2 years later as I got sick and I now write songs about that in 2023! Oh the irony!
WOW thank you all for the likes to my comment!
me gusta ese tema es como volver atrás.. adorable lo se 80"y 90
Harriet has such a beautiful voice it's hard to believe that anyone could pocess such a wonderous thing
This song never fails to break my heart. I suffered thru "that terrible year" and still have a little bitty scar on my heart! Sometimes it's okay to listen to this old song and remember. Sarah
Canciones así te hacen volver al pasado y viajar por caminos disfrutando el recorrido.

I used to dress like her, with the same hairdo, at those times... :)
How can I get it to my iPhone
Edward mburu buy the cd
Me too ...and I carried it off back then
no one will ever tire of this song
I always think of this as an 80's song since it came out in '90. What a lovely song to cap off a wonderful decade of innovative music.
En efecto, allí terminó la historia, desde los 2000s que venimos en caida libre con el arte, la música, la creatividad y la imaginación en general.
Muy cierto :'(
one of the most heartbreaking ballads of the nineties
For all the posters who only know this song, do yourself a favor and listen to the whole
CD. It's gorgeous. I saw them in 91, I think and met them after the show, Harriet & David. They are as sweet in person as their music sounds.
twenty years gone by...this song still gives me the chills! Harriet's voice is like that of an angel!!!
She has such a nice voice.
"...it's that little souvenir of a terrible year, which makes my eyes feel sore..." Sublime!!!!
έτσι ακριβώς όπως τα λες είναι.Τα 90'ς ήταν πραγματικά η τελευταία τρομερή δεκαετία για την μουσική.
Simplemente Preciosa.....!!!! ...Muchas Graciassss!!!
Sin duda una de las mejores canciones del mundo
What a beautiful voice singing one of the best songs ever! An earworm to me since I listened to it first shortly after release.
This has got to be one of the greatest records ever. Harriet has one of the most amazing, lyrical instruments in her voice, it's how I imagine angels sing in heaven. I was lucky to see them in a small venue in DC in '98, and it was one of the best concerts I've seen. Wish they would come back!
They were one of the very few bands from northern Europe I really LOVED to listen to. Hope they once start it up again, the story should not end here. But I am dreaming, or 12 years too late.
Another band that passed me by in what was a golden age of indie music. In the pre internet days 20 plus years ago, music like this was hard to hear, outside of the old world media of radio and television. If the radio or television did not play it and the record store could not get it in for you, then you did not get to hear it. There are dozens of bands that I read about through the NME and Melody Maker back then that I never got to hear until TH-cam came along, and this is one of them.
''Golden age'' is about right. The '86-'92 indie scene was just unbelievable, but so hard to hear. John Peel/Janice Long on the radio, Snub TV/The Chart Show (Indie Top 10 rundown) on telly - that was it. Once ''Psychocandy'' showed me that there was life outside the Top 40, I bought NME, MM, et al religiously (Do you remember a magazine called ''Underground''? It was a monthly that lasted for about 16 issues in '87, '88; it was my Bible) and bought records on the strength of reviews, with crossed fingers! So much amazing music that I'd never have heard otherwise.
fractalign I didn't read any of those music magazines, but somehow I ended up with this band's CD or tape. I look back on my music collection from then and have no idea how I found all those cool bands.
this song never ever bores me, love it!
I remember the day I saw this on MTV 120 mins and my jaw just dropped...magical, beautiful and simply the best...
I was 19 when this record came out..I remember those days and those bands and I feel so nostalgic..
the book "attachments" by rainbow rowell brought me here...what a lovely song!
The most beautiful, sexy voice for anyone who was a teenage fan in the 90's.....
The Sundays came to Japan during the mid 90s.
I stood 2m from Harriet at Club Chitta in Kawasaki City while she sang this song.
There were about 250 or so people there, mostly foreigners like me.
The band put on a really cool show and it was a wonderful thing to have been there.
I bought the T-shirt with the giant hand on it and still have it lol,What a great band!
Every time I hear this song, I start to choke up. Better times, better places.
Been searching for this song for ages!!! I always knew part of the lyrics but never knew sang it! Heard it on the way to spice girls concert many years ago it has stuck with me ever since that day in taxi lol! Oh great memories!
Omg the same with me! The chorus stucks in my head but I can't comprehend the lyrics!
Kezia Hutabarat
teeheee! :D
Me too!!! I was just watching VH1 and they played it so I'm here. It's been stuck in my head for at least 19 years! Tried looking for it but since English isn't my native language never made up the lyrics until now, I thought it was "here's where the story goes"...
it's just such a good song, right?! ahhh happy days :D
best song ever
THE most beautiful voice ever! Great song too!
This was a favorite song with a girl I was in love with long ago..Thanks for sharing,it brings back many fond memories:)
the book "Attachments" by Rainbow Rowell brought me here. what a beautiful song
Same here :D
M too! 6 pages away from finishing it :(
happy reading! :) the last pages are the best part of the book
+cherryblossommonster it was amazing. Really loved it ❤
i
que tiene esta era musical que toda cancion que escucho me da una nostalgia...?
+cesar gomez Esta canción da nostalgia
i am into metal but it is always nice to go back to your youth and listen to what got you into music in the first place.
i wasn't even born when this song was released but it feels so nostalgic to me and idk why. so beautiful.
one of the most beautiful voice
back in the day I often imagined a duet of Harriet Wheeler and Ian McCulloch.
I agree with the 90's comments!! those were my high school days and all the music that i think to revisit is always from then... i feel like all those musicians are old friends that i had no idea how much i missed... :)
Just watched a documentary on Rough Trade Records and The Sundays were mentioned. That was enough to spark a long-forgotten ache in my heart. Rushed on to TH-cam to hear this again. I'm still in love with Harriet Wheeler....
sounds just like cemetery gates by the Smith... I love both songs though XD
People I know, places I go
Make me feel tongue tied
I can see how, people look down
They're on the inside
Here's where the story ends
People I see, weary of me
Showing my good side
I can see how, people look down
I'm on the outside
Here's, where the story ends
Ooh here's, where the story ends
It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
Oh I never should have said, the books that you read
Were all I loved you for
It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year
Which makes me wonder why
And it's the memories of the shed, that make me turn red
Surprise, surprise, surprise
Crazy I know, places I go
Make me feel so tired
I can see how people look down
I'm on the outside
Here's, where the story ends
Ooh here's, where the story ends
It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
And who ever would've thought, the books that you brought
Were all I loved you for
Oh the devil in me said, go down to the shed
I know where I belong
But the only thing I ever really wanted to say
Was wrong, was wrong, was wrong
It's that little souvenir, of a colorful year
Which makes me smile inside
So I cynically, cynically say, the world is that way
Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise
Here's, where the story ends
Ooh here's, where the story ends
Wayne andrews what u give is what u get. it's nice to be nice, yep.
This lyics in this song tells the the story of my bitter sweet life. A great song she has a voice of an angel.
I miss the music of the 90's!!!
And all the great English bands that came in that time!
Música para escutar com o coração !
Final del New wave, principios del brit pop,...parece mentira que tenga 26 años! sencillamente perfecta...
Dream Pop ;)
This songs starts and I'm immediately walking down a peaceful meadow, the afternoon sun in the glorious, cloud-filled sky shining brightly but softly. I know not where nor when I am but I know that I am going, inexorably, HOME.
A very beautiful band.
This band melted my heart when I was 21. What happened to Harriet Wheeler?
so fucking good........
I remember hearing this song for the first time over 10 years ago in a McDonald's of all places. I could never find it anywhere and my imitations of the song left my friends baffled as to what I was talking about. 2 weeks ago, the song was featured in "Private Practice" and I almost jumped out my skin. I looooovvvvveeee this song.
music that last forever...
it takes me back to my old school...love it..
Ah, sigh. They don't make music like that anymore. Only dumb commercial bullshit on the radio and charts nowadays
not true heard this good stuff on radio
Edelbrandfreund I feel you , Look at the video so simple yet more artistic than most of today.
I have half a mind to fart in your face because you said that.
it reminds me of the smiths
cocteau twins
It reminds me sixpence none the richer actually I was looking for this song as a SNTR song, never had heard of this guys before
+Frederico Branco Gago Boemeke the sundays do their music years before...in fact SNTR is just a copy of them.
+Gustavo Me recuerda a Cemetery Gates
God, this music is wonderfull! Thanks for the sundays...
Great memories! Summer 1990 travelling in the USA from coast to coast!
her voice sounds like Liz Fraser's
What ???????????????
***** yes indeed ! listen to any Cocteau Twins song :-)
Not really, Liz has much more range and has a crystal quality; Harriet has more of a pop voice...just imagine teardrops sung by Harriet and you will understand completely the difference.
Robert Harper you're maybe right but that was my first impression, I didn't know this singer before and for me it wasn't about the range but just the sound.
Christophe MARTINEAU ANY 80's British indie bands are going to get stupid comparisons. Raised on a diet of prejudice and misinformation...............
cemetry gates
+Pablo GP Yep.
"It's that little souvenir, of a terrible year..."
This is one of a handful of songs and bands that kept me fucking sane in my final year of high school!
For that, love and respect always!
Adored Harriet Wheeler for both her voice and the fact that she was completely gorgeous when I was a teenager!
easy to listen to and easy to look at.beautiful voice from a lovely lady
sounds like The Smiths, maybe.... nice.
KILL robotic sound from NICKI MENAJ with this voice!!!
i agree
.."it's that little souvenir of a terrible year that makes my eyes feel sore"...i luv that line....beautiful song....beautiful voice....
Harriet, eres lo maximo.tu VOZ es dulce y profunda.besos desde PERU
the smiths style
Another time I find myself asking- How can a song be so perfect? Even the blue tint of the video feels right.
After all these years, this video and the song still has relevance or am I just living in my own little bubble? I'm fine with either.
I love the 80s.
used to listen to this over and over, love it to bits.
What a beautiful voice!!! Well, this whole song is just beautiful..............
She's adorable. That voice and that accent puts her over the top.
takes me back to the long hot summer of 1990...wonderful tune.
..has it been 20yrs! oh man some how I got old!!
Still a great song!!!
Ohhh! I've missed this song! I can't believe I've never seen this video. The good ole days for sure! :)
What a voice..if you can reach this in as much as one song you have immortality...it makes my eye sore
this was the first Sundays song I fell in love with. The first of many...
i was in high school when i first heard this and i feel nlove with this song till now. 90's has the best music
WOW - This song has seen me through many years - love it
I began searching for the Tin Tin Out version, since that was what I remember from my childhood, then I found this. I can't believe how beautiful this song and her voice is. It's infinitely better and now I can't stand the Tin Tin Out version!
brings back good memories....
one of the greatest songs ever!!!!!!!!11
