I studied Game Studies and Engineering, it's such a fruitful endeavour to actually bring together people from various backgrounds to work on and with the same thing. :)

Game studies and engineering sound like such a cool combo! I bet you get to do a lot of fun interdisciplinary stuff :) Thanks for the comment!

This is ridiculously high-quality! I couldn't agree more with your goal of connecting the academic game studies world to the world of game development. I can't wait to see this channel take off!

This video is the best TH-cam video on Homo Ludens. I'm not a game designer, just passionate about games and this type of videos helps a lot in understanding the culture more.

I'm studying game design at my university, we should discuss this book with the group in the next lesson on "humanities and cultural" studies. It really helped me look at some points in the book a little differently and I picked up a couple of new ones. The work the author has done is disproportionate to the attention this video has received.

This video helped me with a question I'd had for a very long time: I play a lot of visual novels, which has always felt like play -- even though it's nearly identical to reading a book on a mechanival level. I couldn't figure out why that is until this video helped me see the play in reading fiction in any format and how that differs from reading a street sign or a textbook. I hope your channel takes off!

Thanks for your lovely comment! I'm so glad that it helped you contextualize your playful experiences a little better.

I am a programmer and Game maker based in Canada. I've been looking to tackle game studies but I just can't find a way to focus my already existing game programmer carreer without throwing it all through the window and risking it all. For the time being, all I can do is read some good books and learn as an independent.

Totally understand that! It's SO HARD to find good game studies material out there if you're a working professional and making games full-time already -- I'm hoping that my channel can work toward the goal of making game studies more accessible! Thanks for watching!

This video is the bridge of academic game studies and game developers.

my fear is MARKETING getting deeper into the idea of play and REALLLLLLLYYY hijacking the last vestiges of of our humanity for their profit margins

I think I can put Huizinga in one side of the phillsophical spectrum of games and Chris Crawford in the opposite side.

    god play is absolutely play.
i have a hypothesis that religious folk have such an issue with thought counter to their religious belief because their god occupies the entirety of the portion of the brains processing that is required to run hypothetical scenarios. and these are , at the lest, overlapping with the play process of the brain.
