      I'd like to see Unreal Editor tests, with the same cards. Everyone is going crazy for it, so I can see a transition away from Maya/Blender as the main tool for 3D. Everyone knows the 3090 is king but i'd be interested in seeing how much it outperforms the others.

    • @KingTrader30
      @KingTrader30 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      might be because 3090 has more VRAM, the other 3 only have 8GBs VRAM they performed almost the same on complex scene like in blender , maybe it exceeded 8GBs VRAM

    • @kingghidorah8106
      @kingghidorah8106 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KingTrader30 no, VRAM only limits the amount of objects in the scenes as well as the texture resolution. The 3090 and 3080 II 12Gb both have 1020gb/s bandwidth while the rest are at around 400gb/s. That's why the 3090 is much faster. The same thing happens when you compare a 4060ti 16gb vs a 2080ti, 2080ti has 680gb/s bandwidth and 4060ti 16 only has 299gb/s.

  • @noxagonal
    @noxagonal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I do enjoy these comparisons a lot.
    Unfortunately you're rendering with your CPU in Blender for RTX3080 and RTX3070. You can tell by how the "Device" option is grayed out and CPU is used as fallback. Another way to tell is that each render block uses one thread of the CPU, if multiple blocks are being rendered at once it means that each block uses one CPU thread, GPU renders one block at a time. Probably wrong render device in settings.
    If anyone is curious (assuming sample count is 128 and nothing else was modified in the video) RTX2070 Super can render this scene in 1 minute and 8 seconds using Cuda, it'll be down to 47 seconds using Optix. Using Blender 3.0 (Cycles X) and Optix, render time goes down all the way to 26 seconds.
    I'd like to see your 4 x RTX3090 setup speed using Blender 3.0 and Optix device. :)

    • @MediamanStudioServices
      @MediamanStudioServices  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I tell all my viewers that ask Laptop questions. Why a laptop as it will always be slower for a higher cost. Do you know what kind of a powerful Desktop system you could purchase for the price of that laptop set up. Desktops are faster and upgradeable.
      But for your question of long lasting, I do not know as what is long lasting. 10 years. then the answer is no. Next year will be a great year for computer tech and upgrades to performance per dollar. So first if you are looking for long term, don't get a laptop. as they will be obsolete faster than a desktop as you can not upgrade any components.
      Thanks for watching and good luck on your purchase.

    • @guillermocosio7362
      @guillermocosio7362 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have two theories:
      1: 3090 drivers may be bettef optimized as it supposed to be a more professional targeted card, in the past RTX where utperformed in professional settings by QUADRO and Titan Cards, by having optimized drivers and, I think, enabling Double precision point operations.
      2. Blender likes GDDR6X VRAM... Lots of it...

    • @glowyboi7175
      @glowyboi7175 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@guillermocosio7362 Its not 1 - the 3090 has the exact same drivers as other GeForce cards.
      Its almost certainly the VRAM - Redshift GPU renderer can improve speed by optimizing GI calculations, and gives you the option to do this in global controls. I haven't used Blender but I assume it has something similar.

  • @GENIUSGT
    @GENIUSGT 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would increased RAM capacity improve render times? I've got a gaming rig with 16gb. I know more than that doesn't help games but I am curious how much it affects software like Maya.

    • @mikebrown9826
      @mikebrown9826 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think of vRAM as a container. Once full it needs to transfer to system ram and that is slow. But if your scenes do not fill the container. Then you will have no issues. So does more vRAM speed up Maya. Only is you need the extra memory.

    One thing you got wrong with Blender is the denoising. You explained that the "Start Sample" would affect the render itself, but in actuality, the Start Sample setting only affects the viewport. Rendering an image will always apply the denoising after the tile has finished all of its samples no matter where you set the denoising to start because that setting, as I said, only affects the viewport. It's only there to get "cleaner" results faster in the viewport by telling it to start denoising earlier instead of waiting for it to do all of its viewport sampling first

SO I can not comment on the performance of AMD's GPU's. but its a good guess that they will work for interaction when inside the 3D applications, just dont know about the GPU rendering support. If you are doing 3D work, stick to Nvidia or render everything on the CPU. I am sure the future will have more support for AND GPU's but for now not so much.....

    I love your videos but the blender tests are wrong in the sense that the 3090 has only around 15% more cuda cores than 3080 and the vram capacity don't explain the massive difference between those 43 secs vs the 2+ minutes of the rest. And if the vram somehow is the factor, then we are not comparing the raw processing power anymore. I mean is obvious (or should be clearly stated) that for scenes that are using more than 8/10gb of vram the performance will drop. But since you used different settings to test the 3080 in the visor I assume there was a user fault too when setting the 3090 blender scene.

    Hello, which of these 3 computers do you think would render faster in Blender using GPU?
    Option A) Intel Core i9-11900K, 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 10GB
    Option B) Intel Core i9-11900F, 64 GB RAM, MSI Geforce RTX 3080 Ti Gaming X trio 12G
    Option C) Intel Core i7-11700K, 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB

    • @MediamanStudioServices
      @MediamanStudioServices  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the RTX3090 will be the fastest, but also at the highest cost.
      May I ask why the Intel CPU? the AMD CPU are faster and sell at a lower cost? Not that I do not like Intel CPUs, it just AMD is offering better performance per dollar currently in the market. So I recommend the 5900x and the rtx3090. Save money on the CPU and spend it on the GPU. Every dollar counts.

    • @avirtualdesigner6396

      So Option C would be the best, even if the CPU is Intel Core i7 instead of i9? (I render with GPU, but I don't know if this can also affects the rendering time).
      The problem is that in Europe is almost impossible to buy NVIDIA graphic cards at the moment, and the only way to get one seems to buy an already assembled computer from a big store (that's why those 3 options).
      Almost all of these PCs come with Intel CPUs

    • @MediamanStudioServices
      @MediamanStudioServices  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@avirtualdesigner6396 I see why the options. If you are doing GPU render, the CPU does not have to be the fastest or have the most cores as most of the rendering is done on the GPU. The CPU does have a job in the rendering cycle as well as the RAM, but you will see a very little percentage of time reduction between the i9 and the i7. Save the money on the CPU and spend on the GPU. and also Blender is a single threaded application when interacting with the software. It only uses more cores when doing CPU rendering. or maybe simulations. Good luck getting a GPU. wish you the best
