You usually want longer fights in arena, since it gives you more Weapon Exp. But you still need to win the fight in the end for it to have any worth though...
FE4 made it so weapons only broke *after* the fight ended, so they effectively had infinite uses until then. I once had a 9 minute fight between a 61 HP dark mage and a Sylvia who dealt 1 damage and had less than 50% hit. She was left exactly at 1 HP at the start, cue a +90 Avoid from Miracle. It was the best.
Good ol' Blazing Sword. The way I see it is the higher the hit rating, the better the accuracy. Although RNG (random number generator) can be unpredictable.

I assume fimbulvetr also weighs the valkyrie down and even with that sophia has that horrific hit

If your hit rate is lower than 50%, then the actual hit rate is lower than the number displayed on screen
