Very cool as someone who is a musician and a percussionist i am always open to seeing listing and learning new things .I wish websites and videos even computers were around when i was a kid i thinks kids are so lucky to have this at there fingertips any time of day to learn.Well actually so am i and you can teach an old dog new tricks keep jamming to all types of music keep an open mind and have fun
@@patrickkennedy5439 I think he means that Xenakis was all about chance and indeterminism, so "indetermined" instrument selection would probably be allowed by him, but whatever
Ok, read some of the comments. This is the first time I've heard this piece. I loved it this way. I'm a composer myself, so I'm pretty passionate about pieces being performed the way the composer intended. But it was still cool. Of course I'll listen to djembe version too. I guess it's like when I go to a concert of The Rite of Spring, probably my favourite work. Most people in the audience hardly know it, so just enjoy it and are pretty forgiving of the odd mistake or unusual interpretation in dynamics, tempo, style etc., while I'm sitting there hating all those things because of how familiar I am with the work. But on first hearing, I thought this was cool.
not sure how i feel about this interpretation since the performers changed the entire instrumentation…supposed to be played on 3 djembes…which i'm sure everyone here posting already knows….however, this isn't in keeping with the spirit Xenakis intended with this piece
this is what gets me with the scores sheets, why not use like big tablets? Those page turns looks like some stuff is missing because you have to flip the 3 pages... I don get this, please explain this to a layman ;)
Interesting arrangement, seems like a lot of work to avoid playing djembe though. Xenakis would have cared more about the sounds then how you got them, but the basic premise here is sounds made with the hands not sticks. Jury is still out for me on the concept you present.
this isnt horrible... but I do have to agree its quite boring. was Xenakis trying to call upon more primal, ancient drumming with this piece? I just feel like there's no build, no tension and release. it almost seems like it's an etude for three percussionists exploring modulations rather than a performance piece. but hey what do i know? i just have a lowly graduate degree in concert percussion performance.
That being said I do get the point: a gem of a piece, great playing, and very enjoyable!!! Love Xenakis's music...Thanks
This one shows great talent by all. What an interesting composition to play! Bongos & bass drums give a flavor of "spicy stuff".
absolutely brilliant, as usual with Iannis Xenakis !

Amazing three performers.
That was absolutely incredible. Really awesome job guys.
Wow....this is amazing. I wish I had the sheet music for this
As a percussioner I always log for new ideas. You're Gread :) .
If Xenakis wanted it played on these drums he would have written it that way.
if he would have had an interest in determination, than... well...
@@martinbaumgartner3249 What?
just curious - how it is supposed to be performed?
SPACE DRIFTER 3 djembes

nice!!
Dynamic piece. I'd just dial back the reverb (assuming that was an added effect).
Amen
Only listen...the best is not possible! How knwos what is?
Great
thei only need blue masks to bee the Blue Man Group...
Excelent performance!!
In this context Babbitt's forte offbeats become very important!!! Suggest "Arie da Capo" after this "Rite of Springer"!!!

Where to find the sheet music of this arrangement please ? nice playing ;)
Really sorry....this is not OKHO

I like the version by Le Circle, whom the piece was written for.
how is this horrible? if its not your taste then that is another thing.
Horrible
