Professional framer and art restoration person here….the tape you are using will leave a brown burn-mark across the face of your artwork. It will take a couple of years - but will eventually leach its acidity right through the paper, and ruin your painting. Always use an acid-free framers tape to mount your work - Filmoplast P90 can be ordered online. You’re welcome!
I'm a framer and paper artist and worked in a rare book library so am very schooled on conservation practices. I can't claim to be a paper conservationist. I cringe when artists/crafters use rubber cement, YES glue, Elmer's and other acid filled and corrosive pastes and glues. I had a paper conservator do time and aging tests: methyl cellulose and PVA are best; YES is the worst. In the rare book world, Scotch Tape is a dirty word.
I like the torn edge/floating method. Thanks for the demo. Love your watercolors. Agree with previous comments on making sure you use acid free mats and mounting equipment. My sainted mother used to say, "Sometimes you get what you don't pay for." I believe my humble art, that will probably never hang anywhere but in my rented bedroom, is worth the cost of good acid free products.
I love this style. I’ve sold paintings based on your mounting method. As a sidenote in the United States, I was able to buy two deckle rulers that are metal. It was incredibly difficult to rip the paper to get that edge. It was much easier to use a less expensive watercolor paper, that ripped much easier.
This is great! Thanks for sharing. I have a a bunch of tiny and irregular proportioned illustrations that are doing my head in trying to figure out framing! Thanks again. 😊
Can you clarify what kind of paper you are painting on, as well as the paper you taped it to? They were perhaps the same. It soundedike you said "caddy" paper but I've never heard of that, so not sure. Thanks. This really has such a nice finished look. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this suggestion, Jane! On an unrelated note, I was wondering if you could share where you found your lovely bracelet -- is it Murano glass? Love the color!
Well, thank you. It's a bracelet I bought in Covent Garden some time ago. Quite some time actually. It's very cheap. Not Murano, that's for sure. Some kind of resin. Jane.

Yes!! I've seen this happen with people using double sided tape in journals.
Such a shame.

Thanks, it must take a while for the adverse effects to start showing through. I can't detect any on mine, even from years ago. Jane.
ok. Jane.
Just what I need. Thank you so much from the southern shore of Lake Michigan
The Great Lakes! Thank you. Jane.

Very nice. I ordered a ripper. I love your voice, and your very direct way of getting right down to brass tacks
So agree. Not happy when they talk about stuff…get to why you’re making the video!
Thank you. I don't like messing about for the sake of it. I think that's why my live classes are popular. Jane.
Where did you order your ripper?
I will certainly have a go at this type of mounting. I love the 'raw' edge. It's gorgeous. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
You're welcome. I've posted another example. Jane.
What a wonderful idea looks very professional with that special touch. Thank you for sharing 😍.
Thanks Catherine. Jane. ( I try to be professional, so it's nice to know it comes across as such).

That turned out well then, but I do prefer the thick handmade. Jane.
@@janebetteridge8958 yes I agree. Thank you for sharing the method.
Have you tried using a wet paintbrush to wet alonh the edge where you're tearing before tearing it?
@@janinafisher101 No. I will definitely try that. Thank you!
What a wonderful way to showcase your work! It really takes it up a step & standout even more. I love the tool for making deckle edges too.

Effective, simple, and cheap. We all like that! Jane.

I think it’s a Khadi sketch book….but Iam not sure. It’s hand made paper very nice not too thick
Any paper will do. Khadi is the one in question. Thanks, Jane.

Not quite sure why the deckle edge, when it's covered anyway? Thanks for the tutorial
Thank you. Actually, it's not covered. Jane.
Great idea. I did not understand the paper you are using for this..?
You can use any paper. I just used a piece that was at hand. Thanks, Jane.
Beautiful, can you tell me what you signed your painting with please? That looked like a ball point pen.
Can't think at the moment. I'll watch the video to see. Thanks, Jane.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
How nice! I guess you liked it? Jane.
Very nice suggestion for watercolour mounting. Could you please add a link to your deckle edge ripper? (i.e., in the details of your video). Thank you
I'll try to find one. It's a long time since I bought mine. Jane.
I love it!! Is the painting mounted on watercolor paper? Greetings from Texas!
Yes, watercolour paper. Remember the Alamo! Jane.
Jane, where is that paper from? Do you have a link? Great video. . . Thank you💚
Thank you. If I can find it out I'll post it in the description. In the meantime, maybe the SAA at Newark. Jane.
I'm confused. Why aren't you spray mounting the artwork onto a board? How does it stay with a tiny piece of scotch tape? Please advise
Just did it for speed. I'll cover it in depth at some point.. Jane.
What kind of paper did you use to mount your painting on? I couldn’t understand the word?
Khadi. Find it on Amazon. Jane.
Date and signature on a different piece of paper from the artwork.... hmmm, what could go wrong?
I also sign the painting as well. Jane.
What call those white frames
Just picture framing mount card. Jane.
Just that the camera is sailing so much that I get nocea.
It's an informal, off the cuff clip. My most viewed ever. Most liked ever. Jane.
