    Love how your horse just stands there wailing for the cue to move on/walk on. The whole time your moving the reins around, you can tell the horse is well trained the proper way.. a good foundation.

    Do you ever struggle with lacking motivation to ride? I’m 16 and have been riding my whole life and this show season I have really felt not with it and I’m trying to get myself on the game again

      Don’t beat yourself up! It’s ok to feel that way sometimes. Times like these determine who the champions are later, it’s about the process. And if nothing else you owe it to your horses to get out there and try and improve them And yourself. Get it! 👊🏾👊🏾💯〽️

    Love the advise, hate the idiotically loud and distracting music.

    For someone just starting out with splits I recommend one with thicker ends. That really helps if you have a problem with dropping them too.

    It took me the longest time to get comfortable with split reins.. but now it’s mostly all I use on my mare.

    Hey Matt,
    How many acres does the ranch sit on?

    • @mattmillsreining1
      @mattmillsreining1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sits on 10. We’ve got another 10 next door that we mainly use for turnout time!

    Hey Matt, quick question, have you ever tried ranch riding? It’s a little like reining but no quite. It’s really cool that’s what I do!

    Matt, this was so timely for me. I just bought a new bitless bridle and it came with split reins. I've never really ridden with split reins the way you're supposed to before. This is very helpful. Thanks once again, Matt.

    I'e always done the second method (cross method) when riding/training two handed. Gonna try the first method but it might be difficult to switch after doing the other for over 30 years lol!

    Great tips Matt but what I would love to know next are your tips for keeping your horse’s coats looking so fabulous. I know to keep them out of the sun but what do you feed and do to keep their coats looking so shiny and healthy.

    How do I determine rein length with shanked bit?

    • @silverkitty2503
      @silverkitty2503 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just enough to make light contact ... literally put the rein in the palm of your hand lift it that is contact ...the pulling ideally should only come from the horse never from you. Also remember some horses have longer necks than others like racehorses have really long necks and head position is determined by how much muscle is in the neck etc so its diff for the conformation of the horse.

    Thanks for posting your videos! Super informative! Question: what is your everyday split reins? I’m looking for split reins and I want something that is quality and durable. If you could, please send me a link or a company that you recommend. Thank you so much!

    What do you start your young horses with I always start mine with a nose band or a side pole and Martingale’s just to get them to break at the pole slowly
