    Saw Rodney Rude at the Cabbage Tree Hotel in Fairy Meadow Wollongong 1984. I was a young student then and couldn't afford the ticket so we tried to sneak in. Suddenly someone behind us said "you know Rodney Rude is on tonight". We turned around and it was him. We told him we didn't have money for tickets and he arranged for us to see the show for free. Fucking funny bastard and a top bloke.

    I was playing in the house band at Gobble's Nightclub in Perth when Rodney got arrested. There were cops in the crowd, cops in the stairway, cops having drinks in the manager's office...you get the idea. He had been told they were there to get him but he carried on. As the cops dragged him from the stage, beer cans and drinks showered the stage and things looked a bit ugly. With a policeman each side of him, Rodney clambered back to a microphone and said: "First time I've ever been pulled off by a copper"...and left the stage to a chorus of cheers.

      I suppose the dirty perverted coppers were there because they wanted to get the strap-on that Rodney Rude was talking about in his jokes? They didn’t want the public finding out what things they get up to when they sit around the police station sipping cups of coffee and playing with their strap-ons.

    I remember me and some mates when we were like 13 hiding in a bedroom secretly listening to a rude cassette tape someone had got their hands on. what he said shocked and amazed us, then as we listened more and more we realised that it wasn't just blatant swearing for shock value, it was a carefully crafted form of communication designed to create impact at certain points in his show. this man is a comic genius, and a bit of a genius in general; we should create a national comedy foundation then induct him as a hall of famer (along with graham kennedy). thank you Rodney for everything you've given us

    It’s weird. I’m into horror movies. It used to be old, puritanical religious zealots censoring everything. Joyless old men and ladies in big horn-rimmed glasses in their Sunday best. “You can’t can’t say that or do this or show that”. Now it’s young, trendy people - it flipped. When the f*ck did that happen?

    • @paulw5039
      @paulw5039 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My theory is that it is filling a 'God-shaped hole'. Humans are almost instinctively religious, it naturally evolved as social glue for an intelligent, highly gregarious species. Without formal religion, humans tend to replace that with something else. The new woke culture has, as you say, the attitudes of a traditional, puritanical religion.

      I think the simple explanation is young people inevitably rebel against the values of their parents. What better way to shock baby boomers and gen xers than to turn into into censorious, finger wagging puritans?

    • @chrise5011
      @chrise5011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Religion was the driving force behind censorship as the vocal majority at the time were either religious or posing as religious people. Religion however is not popular like it was and the vocal majority now is the "progressive left" and instead of bible bashers you have social justice warriors competing over who is a bigger victim and demanding to be a protected class to the point that they are above criticism. To sum it up, politics and social justice are the new religion and is being fuelled by rewarding people for crying victim.

      we don't have the KKK or Westboro Baptist Church hiding being "free speech" to get away with hate speech either mate. I agree with free speech, but I also agree we need to distinguish against hate speech ... as with everything in life, we need to treat everything on their own individual merits. I mean we don't just allow everyone to drive on the roads at whatever speed they want -- we have limits. Likewise we don't let people drive if they've had too much to drink. It's all about BALANCE, and COMMON SENSE, but if you have a law that says "_EVERYTHING IS ACCEPTABLE_" ... you have already failed.

    • @lamentate07
      @lamentate07 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It's also easy to pretend that criticism of any group or person is also hate speech as well, even though that group or person may be in fact abusing whatever privileges have been handed to them.
      I think we need to do away with the concept of hate speech altogether. It's strikes me as childish. It's for pussies who can't deal with the messy complexity of life.
