I will never understand why people hate on this band in the metal community. If you don't think this sounds good there is something wrong with your ears or brain, and that's coming from someone who regularly listens to bands like Opeth, Cattle Decapitation, and Humanity's Last Breath. People gotta stop hating on bands that utilize a metal sound and still gain commercial success. It helps bring more people like this reactor for example into the world of heavy music. More fans can only be a good thing. Bands like this are helping to keep heavy music alive.

Couldn't agree with you more. I understand if people don't like a voice or a melody that doesn't vibe with them but alot of haters are just gonna hate because that's what they do and it does nothing constructive. If you don't like it thats fine, just don't go around saying that a band is trash when they are really not.

    • @jeffers0315
      @jeffers0315 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

@Shaan_Angel not everybody, but there's a weird toxic trait you may find in the metal community where people automatically hate on bands that have any commercial success. They think bands have to stay super underground and sound like trash to be "real metal". The vast majority of the community are extremely friendly and accepting, but every group has a few morons.

    • @TeckTheBlooded

I do disagree that "More fans can only ever be a good thing", I do think a SMALL amount of gatekeeping is "needed", but thats just a personal mindset.

Glad you enjoyed it! If you want more Sleep Token, I'd say Alkaline is their next best song. Otherwise if you're looking for more variety in the genre, I'd recommend some Avenged Sevenfold, particularly Nightmare. Both songs have mostly clean singing and are very melodic, so I'd recommend them over anything super heavy at the moment. As much as I do love death-core and death metal, I can definitely say they are an aquired taste. But good on you for giving the genre another shot!

    • @liambelh9556

@@Shaan_Angel If you do end up going with Infant Annihilator, I would first preface that you don't have to listen to them, and it is probably better if you don't. And if you do I cannot stress this enough DON'T READ THE LYRICS!!! And be warned that they make music about dismemberment, n**rophilia, p**ophilia, and more nasty stuff that sometimes appears in the music videos. They are genuinely a band that I would not recommend anyone to listen to.
In terms of other deathcore songs, the genre is pretty much Lorna Shore level heavy and above. If you're looking for more Sleep Token type metal or even a bit heavier than that, I'd say to stay with metalcore for a while. I think the suggestions I gave above are solid picks to dive further into that side of metal.
If you do want to go further into deathcore specifically, I'd recommend either the Pain Remains trilogy by Lorna Shore, or Demolisher by Slaughter to Prevail.
Pain Remains is less heavy than To The Hellfire, focusing more on operatic and emotional elements. If you go with that, I'd pull up the lyrics alongside the songs because funny enough, the trilogy is actually a love story lol.
Demolisher, on the other hand, is just super heavy, high-energy, and high-intensity fun. Slaughter to Prevail has some of the best vocals and drums in metal right now, and Demolisher specifically is a really good song for reaction content because of it's ending, which I won't spoil.
Whatever you end up reacting to next, I hope you enjoy it and find success with your channel and music!

I don't know if this was commented before, but during the long stretch of melodic sounds right before the end, the drummer (II) adds a very impressive solo so if you're a fan of intricate drums, there are quite a few drumcams of it, and an official recording of it on the Drumeo TH-cam channel.

Ascensionism, Chokehold, Granite or Take Me Back to Eden next for sleep token. Personally I think this band is the best I have ever heard in my 48 years of listening to music, I have become so obsessed by them. There is a whole lore behind the band but you don't need to know to enjoy the music, every song is a banger crossing genres of metal, rnb, pop, funk, jazz and ambient so expertly. I wouldn't focus much on the visualizers as they are more lore specific things and totally not needed for a casual listener, instead focus on the lyrics and musicality of their songs. Worship!

Real talk from a lifelong metalhead, take some time before you touch Infant Annihilator, not just because they're heavy but the music they make is for people already into the genre, and their style reflects that. You'd be much more able to approach the song with a few more heavy titles under your belt.
I'd suggest continuing with Sleep Token, even if only between other songs from other bands. They have a devoted fanbase that will continue to support you, and I can't recommend the Take Me Back To Eden album enough, which is what The Summoning is from. For you, based on the nature of your channel, I'd recommend Aqua Regia or Ascensionism the most.
Likewise, suggestions I would give so you're not thrown straight back in the pit with Lorna Shore would be Pisces by Jinjer, Blessed Be or Constance by Spiritbox (the latter if you want a song to break down the video for more than anything else), or if you want to dig into the heavier stuff without going Lorna Shore heavy, looking Lamb of God, which has plenty of amazing tracks to pick from, many of which you can find the influences of within Deathcore at large.
Either way, even if you taker none of these suggestions, it's always welcome to see someone from outside the community give this style of music a fair chance, even if you don't inherently like it. It's refreshing, and when criticized in a constructive way is good for the genre at large. I look forward to seeing you explore more of this music, and seeing the metal fanbase support you for it.
Oh, and don't pay attention to the pausing BS. Get used to the genre and you'll feel when it's a good time to say what you gotta say, vs. when it's not. If people want to listen to the song uninterrupted, they can go to the source. Give us your opinions and feedback homie.

I am 55 and have always loved Metal. I listened to Dream Theater, Queensryche and Trivium so progressive metal and 8 minute songs that tell stories and concept albums are my thing. I love it. That kind of stuff just kind of went away. Sleep Token brought it back. From the first song I was hooked. Vessel, the singer, composes all the music except for the drums. He's a musical genius. The drummer, II, is my favorite in metal. The last 3 albums are a concept trilogy with a storyline. Not all the songs are metal...Sleep Token switches genre often and sometimes has more than one genre in the same song. Songs I would recommend..."Take me back to Eden" first cause I think that one will blow you away since you like the atmospheric quality in this song. I subbed for more Sleep Token reactions !!! I am so glad the almighty algorithm has brought me to your video and your channel. I must subscribe in the hopes to see you fall down the Sleep Token rabbit hole. Calling them "progressive metal" doesn't give their genre bending true justice. Based on this reaction, your appreciation of the production and instrumentation, and your mention of being a musician yourself, I am positive you will enjoy the rest of Sleep Token's catalog. They are definitely what I would call music for musicians, but still approachable and emotional enough to relate to the masses. Their latest album, Take Me Back To Eden, from which this track is taken, is sonically one of the best start to finish releases I've heard in a long time. As a 40 year old musician, I can easily find myself getting nostalgic and yearning for some long lost feeling of a personal music glory days, but to the contrary, major emerging artists like Sleep Token, Ren, and Electric Callboy have me excited about the future of new music. A future I hope is ever more genre-less and more expressive. It has me rejuvenated and inspired. Anywho, long ramble over. Great reaction! Looking forward to more!

I really loved your reaction! I'm new to Sleep Token myself. I started listening to them in December 2024 and I can tell you: once you have started to really get into their music, it is impossible to stop. They just draw you in and won't let you go!
About your reaction: I don't mind when reactors pause a few times. Better pause and articulate your thoughts instead of talking over the song and missing important parts. And I really see my own listening experience reflected in your reaction. The first time listening to them (with every song btw) is just a whole lot of "WTF IS HAPPENING".
The lyrics of their songs are much more important than the visualizers (in most cases anyways). Vessel, the singer and musical genius behind these songs, is an incredible lyricist and these songs hit you even more in the feels when you look up the lyrics. His way with words is beyond anything I've ever read/heard and I am currently doing a masters degree in literature. I for sure know a lot about words and poetry.
You should definitely check out more of their songs. Maybe work your way through the Take Me Back To Eden album. It's their newest album to date (they are rumored to drop new stuff this year) and it really gives you a taste of how versatile this group really is. I'd say do Take Me Back To Eden (the song), Chokehold, Granite or Ascensionism next. But in the end, every song of them is a masterpiece. Some take a little longer for you to really get them, but when it clicks, they hit you in the face. Especially older ones.
As a recommendation for another group to check out, you should do Bad Omens (I don't know if you already did a reaction for them though, I haven't checked yet). They have some heavy parts in their songs, but they are mostly clean singing. And their songs are amazing. They were my introduction into this genre of music. I'd recommend The Death Of Piece Of Mind, Concrete Jungle or - if you want it a bit heavier - Artificial Suicide.

Yup, this was the right decision! Perfect intro pick for this band as well; has the perfect mix between beautiful melodies, heavy parts, and genre fusion, something that Sleep Token does very well. I'd highly recommend listening to the rest of the album this song is from, Take Me Back To Eden. They have a lot of songs like this, as well as other songs with RnB parts, electronic/pop parts, piano ballads, on top of all the metal stuff. They also use screams quite sparingly, which makes them a really good intro band for metal. Vore probably has the most screams on the album, and but it also has one of my favourite melodic choruses of the album. I'd also recommend The Apparition, Take Me Back To Eden, Euclid, and Ascensionism from this album. From their other albums, The Night Does Not Belong to God, The Offering, Higher, Blood Sport, Atlantic, Alkaline, and The Love You Want are some of my favourites that I'd also recommend
It was SO good to see yourself able to enjoy yourself a lot more with this genre! Definitely keep going with this band and at this point, just be open to new things! All sorts of metal bands do stuff very different from each other, and there are so many different subgenres of metal out there. Most of my tastes was just me trying out new bands, I saw some live which helped expand my tastes even more, and getting into deathcore/super heavy stuff just happened lol, and it was at a point where it felt natural. It's okay if you find something too heavy for you to start off with; give it a few months and you might find yourself enjoying it (I was the same way with Lorna Shore when I first heard them, but I can enjoy them and even heavier, crazier stuff now)
I'd recommend sticking with Sleep Token and some less heavy bands now and just work yourself back up to Lorna Shore (letting it happen naturally is the best way to do it, get progressively heavier and give it time to sit in before going up another step; that's my personal experience as someone who five years ago wasn't listening to metal or even rock at all), but if you really wanted to check out some more deathcore/heavier bands/songs, I'd have a look into Pain Remains by Lorna Shore, Winter by Synestia/Disembodied Tyrant, and Viking by Slaughter to Prevail. If you wanted heavier songs but didn't want to go fully into deathcore, I'd take a look at Yellowjacket by Spiritbox, Gasoline by I Prevail, Annunaki by Silent Planet, and Echoes by Allt. I'd recommend the Spiritbox and I Prevail ones especially as they have a good mix between really heavy songs and more chill songs (I recommended some of their less heavy songs in my comment on the Lorna Shore video), and they were both bands that actually started to help me get into much heavier music.
Looking forward to if you do react to Electric Callboy; they're a huge amount of fun and I went to see them recently, and it was one of the most energetic shows I've been to! I'd recommend Hypa Hypa or We Got the Moves from them :)
Also don't worry about people saying not to pause! It's a reaction video, if you have something you wanna say, say it. And trust me, the more you learn the genre, the more you'll learn where the best parts to pause is. :) Keep doing you and speaking your thoughts!
Looking forward to seeing where this metal journey takes you!

I'm so glad you chose to react to this song, I think Sleep Token will be right up your alley!
While I would definitely love to see more Sleep Token reactions, I'd also implore you to try out some prog metal bands that I love introducing people to: Periphery, TesseracT and Vola. Periphery are the biggest of the 3, and can get quite heavy but not as much as Lorna Shore. I'd recommend songs like Wax Wings, It's Only Smiles and The Way The News Goes to start off with, then maybe eventually you'll be ready for their 16 minute masterpiece, Reptile
For TesseracT, I highly recommend their song Legion, it's what got me into them. It's odd and beautiful and has some atmospheric parts like Sleep Token often do. And lastly, for Vola, I really recommend Straight Lines, Break My Lying Tongue and Head Mounted Sideways (but honestly you could start with any of their popular songs). They have some incredible sounding synths, I think you'd really like it
Anyway, great job on the video!

I love seeing new reactions to Sleep Token. Their entire discography is a story and I think you would really enjoy all of their music. There are a couple songs that are heavy (Gods and Vore). I recommend starting at the very beginning with Thread The Needle and going all the way to Euclid to hear the entirety of that story. Each song has a different feel to it and Vessel uses callbacks in some of them that you'll miss if you haven't listened to earlier songs. If anything, do not listen to Euclid before listening to The Night Does Not Belong To God.

I see someone else mentioned doing Chokehold by Sleep Token and then Will Ramos's cover of it, which is what I was going to suggest when I saw this one, Will is a huge Sleep Token fan. They're not my jam, but definitely extremely talented and great music composition!
If you want to listen to something fun, check out Electric Callboy. Hypa Hypa, and We Got the Moves are popular places to start for them, they also have a great cover of Everytime We Touch. I wouldn’t react to Infant Annihilator yet. It’s way more out there. The lead singer Dickie Allen had said,: I love horror movies, so let’s do that with the death core/ black metal. The music video is disturbing.
Sleep Token on thee other hand doesn’t miss at all. I’m not just saying that. The three albums they released is a concept of those albums. I wouldn’t listen to Euclid until last. Ascensionism, Alkaline, Atlantic, Apparition, also there’s a fingerpicking track Missing Limb’s. Since I’ve checked out some of your songs. Normally with albums there’s usually 3-5 songs that people go back to listen to. But with Sleep Token it really is every song. Which is so rare. That the entire album’s are amazing. Welcome to the metal scene. I honestly believe you’re going to love this journey.

Alongside what other commenters are saying, I'll also add in using subgenres as a metric also helps you in figuring out what you like and stuff to "push into" more.
From rock-related subgenres like Heavy Metal, Glam Metal, Nu-Metal, leading into different track aspects like Folk Metal for cultural resonance, Metalcore for easing into harsh vocals with Deathcore more after that, for more succinct subgenres like Black Metal, Power Metal, Grindcore, and along the way Aliencore/Viking Metal/Mathcore/etc for funny or wholly thematic metal genres.

@ the lore is about an ancient evil entity they call “Sleep”. Sleep appeared to Vessel who becomes kinda the mouth of sleep. If you take all their songs and albums in order, the themes from each represent and describe the relationship between Vessel and Sleep as Sleep tries to take more of Vessel and Vessel tries to prove himself to Sleep. It’s complex and I’m messing it up but it’s definitely worth looking into. In my opinion, it’s very dark and could be satanic. Tha bands name means that the music made is a “token” or sacrifice to Sleep. Fans of Sleep Token are called “Worshipers” and as seen, concerts are almost a ritual which does make me think it could be satanic but who am I to Judge.

That scratchy noise you weren't sure how they made it... you're right that the guitar is playing it, it's called a pick scrape (or that's what I've always called it) and it's basically you have a guitar that's got heaps of gain/distortion applied to it and you scrape the pick up and down a single string (or a couple of adjacent ones). How fast you scrape, how far you move the pick, the material the pick is made of, the thickness of your strings, the pickups etc etc.. all those things are amplified to the max by all the gain and so can really easily influence the specific texture and sound you get out of each pick scrape. It's funny, actually, because the fundamental action of scraping your pick along a string is so basic a 3yr old could do it, and yet the nuance in the technique makes it extremely difficult to master. Whereas you take pinch harmonics, which are much harder to learn the action you need to make to do it, but once it clicks it's surprisingly easy to do all sorts of things with it. Anyway, why am I still talking? You would have lost interest 4 sentences ago and who could blame you. 😅 Anyway all the best, peace ✌

With that being said good luck to your ears for who ever you choose 🤣🤣 I don’t think you will ever be prepared 😂 I will say though as time goes on and the more you hear it the less it will sound like just noise and you will be able to feel the music more. It just takes time 🤘🤘🤘

Welcome to the REAL world of metal. The Genre pretty much has a sound for everything and has been mixing genres since the 80s. It's not all blast beats, screaming and satanic shit. we can make a metalhead out of you yet 😁

Well, I was looking at the video, literally first thing it reminded me of was a demonic creature. To be honest...

There is a whole sub genre for epic metal music: Symphonic Metal.
I woul recommend Epica with Arcana Live Symphonic version.
