Longshanks realises what a wastrel his son is, yet still gives him opportunity to sort out what, at that stage, appears to be a minor if somewhat irritating distraction. He knows deep down he cant do it, but still wants him to have a go, hasnt quite given up on him at this stage.
@TougeWarrior93 : The prince's own wife did become a backstabber herself years later in 1327 when she conspired to overthrow her husband who by that time was reigning as Edward II and put her son on the throne as Edward III and then later had her husband secretly killed. Afterwards Edward II's wife ruled England as regent for several years until her young son Edward III came of age and afterwards forced his mother to resign as regent and retire to private life.
Nicolette, the lady-in-waiting, is the one person in the room who does not seem intimidated by the king. When he enters, she continues her needlepoint unimpressed. When he backhands the prince she doesn’t flinch. She later speaks her mind to the princess concerning her husband’s worthlessness. No doubt reporting these developments back the French court.

bringing into the XXI century? well that's incidental. that goes with being one of the longest monarch. she lived long, good for her. but for what she actually did, well edward the 1st would not be keen on his distant successor. She lost the whole empire she inherited...
@@alainprostbis Wellllll, the empire was really lost between her father and herself. But, the fact that under her reign the British monarchy has survived well into an era of republics is quite an achievement.
As a Brit and observer of history - George cried at the thought of taking the throne cause his brother was too busy fratronising with a divorcee American who treated him like crap.
George did nothing to intervene with Chamberlain's weak governing which lead to capitulation and appeasement of Hitler which gave him ample time to rally his military might until the point it got that much of an advantage the UK was forced to retreat and Dunkirk and the French were conquered via Rommel's surprise invasion via the Arden, after both France and UK were doing nothing for the first ten months of the war when it FINALLY was declared due to Poland and then his little girl Elizabeth reigned over a collapsing industrial power and economy as it was continuously being made to outsource by globalists and opportunists; atop of Blair's illegal war in Iraq, Brown selling our gold reserves to the Chinese, a botched Brexit from a bloc we had been lied to about joining and remaining in decades prior by Heath and the last two years has seen nothing but mass invasion and a weakened economy further because of overreaction to a cough.
And all because George, Elizabeth and now Charles are prepared to do... nothing. And you call George a "great" king.
@@The_Phoenix_Saga And you call the death of millions of people, more than anything else before, "a cough"?
@@apollosaturn5 don't present me with a turd and call it a snickers - the flu kills as many every year and we don't go shutting down the country for it - besides most deaths attributed to the last two years were suicides and negligence. I ought to bloody know; my mother died of lymphoma induced sepsis that wasn't even diagnosed in the two weeks since collapsing that she spent in hospital. They were more worried about a cough that barely registers as a chest infection then people ACTUALLY needing medical attention.
Happy birthday mel from italian boy live in rome
Father does not want no rankers in his crew. His son pains him, he didn't create no coward to take upon his crown. Just a thought
Could you imagine turning away a beautiful wife like that.
Now, the second question would be, imagine the pain influencial and powerful men seeing their sons weak and undecisive???
He turned from her out of embarassment and because he was trying to project strength. Granted it made him look even more pathetic.
It had to be so hard for Edward to know that all of the sacrifice and blood he shed and spilled was going to be rendered as a waste.
The lady in waiting at the end is so awesome. Hahahaha. I hope your husband goes to Scotland and meets Wallace.. And then you'll be a widow 🤣 such loyalty. I love it!!!
Nice Slap Down, My father did that to me once, don't even know why :)) That was a real surprise too
One day you will be a king, at least try to act like one !!! Superb line !!
I like how longshanks stays in the room after his gentle son runs out and is still staring at the target on the chair...lol.
I love how he says routed 😂
If Philip learned anything from this scene..he should have remained in hiding.
Later on he grew some balls and a set of wings😅
He actually didn't grow in his wings yet which is why he landed flat on the ground🤣🤣
Unladen swallows should have carried him back to the tropics.
Neither of which were developed enough to be of any benefit.
Didn't grow any balls, was still holding onto the balls of the king son.😂
Thing with Braveheart, it could be a lot more accurate than we think.
History texts are manipulated , much like Hollywood scripts depicting real life events.
Either way this film is a classic , and the main truth is shown brilliantly.
That being Scotland wanted sovereignty, and they got it.
It’s too bad they didn’t show the Battle of Bannockburn… but that wasn’t really about William Wallace.
@@Bartonovich52 that should be made into a film in all fairness , with a Braveheart sort of style , outlaw king was brilliant too mind.
Longshanks realises what a wastrel his son is, yet still gives him opportunity to sort out what, at that stage, appears to be a minor if somewhat irritating distraction.
He knows deep down he cant do it, but still wants him to have a go, hasnt quite given up on him at this stage.
The prince is the type of guy who love to have a back stabbing friend
@TougeWarrior93 : The prince's own wife did become a backstabber herself years later in 1327 when she conspired to overthrow her husband who by that time was reigning as Edward II and put her son on the throne as Edward III and then later had her husband secretly killed. Afterwards Edward II's wife ruled England as regent for several years until her young son Edward III came of age and afterwards forced his mother to resign as regent and retire to private life.
When MOTHER NATURE ruled
You have to love how they make everything look so primitive...Even 1297 was more elegant than how it's depicted in this movie.
When he told him Wallace has already killed the magistrate and taken control of the town that he wasn't as harmless as a common thief 🤣
King: “Whoever put that arrow in my throne is going to get such a slap!”
I only watched this film for to watch Patrick Magoon , Gibson is a lightweight by comparison and fairy boy
He inspires a lot of respect
The king was a VERY OMINOUS LOOKING MAN.
Scottish rebels have Rrrrrouted one of my garrisons
This would have never been allowed these crazy days,...and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I treat my son like this but he's not soft
Was his name Ted Bundy?
@@xxxYouTunesxxx if u want to run these mountains in California Oregon border as a black man u better be tough. Killing women is the opposite of what real men do if you watch braveheart. Men compete against each other for resources. What did you think Ukraine was about ? Maybe you are a minion
Longshanks was the man. He was right about everything excepet one thing; he should've travelled Scotland taking every bride into his bed, not send his nobels. And make his gentle son watch.
Best part was when he threw his boyfriend out the window. The minute he opened his mouth.
I, and likely many others who watched this film probably thought ‘Oh no, this isn’t going to end well.’ 😂
“Who is this person who speaks to me as though I needed his advice?” 😂

Willie Nelson was great in this film.
Did all of you know that the role of edward longshank was supposed to be played by Sean Connery? It was offered to him, but he couldn't due to his other commitments.
Probably for the best. As much as I like Sean Connery, I don't see him playing the Longshanks role.
Uncle Argyle or a Scottish noble?
I could see that... Or maybe even Campbell.

@VersusARCH haha NO, it was later when Prince Edward, Jr.'s father King Edward I returned from France and saw both his son and his son's " PRIVATE " advisor Phillip together alone in the castle room is when Edward, Jr. knew that he really F****D up. Haha
@@herondelatorre4023There were greater consequences if you don't leave the king alone with his son as requested.
I'm amazed Longshanks didn't do away with his son after his tendencies showed and start again.

This movie was SO full of historical inaccuracies that it should count as a totally FICTIONAL film. But I’ve come to expect that for any “historical” film by mel gibson. The historical names and events of this movie should indeed be changed to fictional names to match the fictional story.
Never understood why people get so upset that it’s not historically accurate. It was never advertised as such. It is what it is. An entertaining blockbuster.
@@matthewgoodyear8818 they pass it off as historically accurate. Americans don’t need any help in appearing stupid.
Wow.the King . England.Bravehesrt
Who would love to go back in time and watch the battle of Falkirk with both William Wallace and King Edward there? Would be fucking amazing to see that
Seeing as it was about 20 minutes long it's not worth it
I read a little into the relationship between them, and knew Longshanks tried to turn his son into a fierce warrior like himself (although he was.a vicious sadist at times) Edward the Second was actually quite brave in battle, but his heart wasn't in it.I had also read of an incident where Longshanks was furious with his son over Piers Gaveston,he was alleged to have torn out bits of his son's hair.Bloody hell.
He should have had an Oscar nomination for this role. But his movie character threw the prince's paramour out a high window. No way Hollyweird rewards that.
Sad. Princess
The first LGBT beat down!
Boy not even getting close tp the bullseye
Kings and Queens fall to the Father. Wallace actually used his strategy to fruition: If you can't get them out, you breed them out!
Total weakness! This type of weakness will destroy everything it comes in contact with!
After watching this with an adult eye, the prince's advisor was definitely his lover
He was into bumgee jumping without the bumgee.
Agreed. This Never would have crossed my mind watching it as a 10 year old when it first came out.
I didn't see that coming
I think Longshanks is a good example of someone with psychopathy. He was ruthless, cruel, and power-driven. He only cared about how to control Scotland and didn't care about the Scottish people's suffering. Nonetheless good qualities for leadership.
I have no knowledge of being a "king".
I know why this is first in my feed. I've survived more hardships, fistfights, and personal wars than both of you combined!
No one reserves the right to judge me, for I have passed through crucible after crucible. BUT THIS SCAPEGOAT GAME ENDS HERE!
PERIOD no discussion. I'll do what is necessary to see it ended.
