Best teacher ever. I am so much closer to God now because of Dr. Michael Heiser! I know who God is And I know his plan for me. And it is because of his teachings. I cannot Express how thankful I am for that! God Bless you Dr. Heiser. I hope you are doing well. I'm praying for your recovery.
Dr Heiser. You are a True Blessed Modern Day Teacher and YAH has blessed you MIGHTILY with discernment. You are in my prayers still and have been since the day I found out. Beloved Brother ; I'm grateful to glean wisdom from you sir. SHALOM
I find it fascinating so many do not realize the scriptures were written to a Middle Eastern audience...people who experience language and communication in a completely different way then we do in the West. Unfortunately, many in the West are so arrogant in thinking their way of interpretation of scripture is the correct way. I read many eastern documents from Asian and Eastern religions. They are written in a completely different way than we write in the West. However, they make complete sense when I look at it in the way they communicate. So many Christians have lost so many opportunities to experience the spiritual realm simply because they are too stubborn to accept what the text is trying to say. Fortunately, people such as Dr. Heiser help many make sense of it.

I can’t with this comment section grossly misunderstanding his lecture. The script may have scientific/historical errors. The theology does not. You have to honestly take the data that you are given and work with it. The Bible gives you a fact, you research it, look into the cultural and historical context of why the author(s) would have written it like that. Derive your theology accordingly. More information comes to light? Adjust your theology accordingly.
Dear Lord in Heaven, DO NOT let the enemy take this man. He is doing so much damage to the kingdom of darkness, and the "principalities" are quaking in fear. Honor your word by ministering healing to his physical body. We who esteem his teaching ministry stand together as one in agreement. May the power of the Holy Spirit be present in his home and all around his family for protection. We ask this in the name that is ABOVE EVERY NAME, above the name of cancer, above every diagnosis, above every creating thing, every single cell and atom. We praise this NAME and the man who holds it--Jesus, the only Christ and savior of mankind. Amen.
I just want to point out that if Mike Heiser dies, it will NOT be because of the enemy. God calls many people home using many methods. God still sits upon the throne and has dominion over life and death! Remember Job? God declared that Satan could do what he wanted with him EXCEPT death. Mike's life is and always has been in the hands of our LORD!!!
@@servantofmylord *Dude, Job didn't die for 1. Secondly, Heiser isn't Job. Thirdly, there is NOTHING in the entirety of Scripture that indicates 'God calls anyone home.' Thats modern 20th century Revivalist Era Modicum seeping into Evangelical Christian Theology seeping into 21st century thinking and I'll be glad when that non-sense runs it's course. That is more aligned with the way pagan Greeks saw Zeus than it does with how the Word of God reveals the Father. God and satan are not in competition to see who can steal, kill and destroy the most. Jesus is the REPRESENTATION of the FATHER NOT the BOOK of JOB and Jesus went about 1.TEACHING 2. PREACHING and 3. HEALING and 4. DOING GOOD. When you can't distinguish between the CHARACTER of your FATHER and SATAN you've got a big problem.*
"The flow of history at times will produce answers". That is was it means for prophecy to be "sealed". When a prophecy is sealed, it's fulfilment is revealed through history and some will remain sealed until the end. Everybody will be shocked at the final revelation, but it will then all make sense to everybody and will be the final proof, so that "every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord!".
Of course there’s talking snakes, there’s countless of them still walking around in DC. But seriously, I don’t believe it’s as problematic as people think (uh oh, here come the nachash trolls..). Modern science has shown snakes have genetic coding for legs, they’re just not being expressed, although I remember seeing a report years ago of a genetic throwback with a snake found with one leg crawling around. We also have plenty of examples of animals talking, parrots are obvious, but also others talk in their own ways like whales, dolphins, etc. Whose to say the first Man didn’t have superior abilities to post-fall man? Keep in mind just because the serpent was able to speak doesn’t mean it understood what it was saying, it was being manipulated by a spirit/angel - like Balaam’s donkey. Also A.I. is able to decode the ‘language’ of many living things now and can even learn to communicate with them. I think we need to be a bit more open minded and just maybe give the Creator of heaven and earth a little more credit. _"If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent [the "nachash" of Numbers 21.9 recalling the earthly event between Eve and the nachash] in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up"_ (John 3.12-14) _”Then the LORD sent fiery serpents [lit. the seraphim (and) the nechashim] among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. So the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and against you; intercede with the LORD, that He will remove the serpents [nechashim] from us.” And Moses interceded for the people. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and put it on a flag pole; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, and looks at it, will live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent and put it on the flag pole; and it came about, that if a serpent bit someone, and he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.”_ (Numbers 21.6-9)
There are many big claims we can test in the scriptures that hold up that were long disregarded as myth, like the ‘star of Bethlehem’ for one, or some of the huge finds of Ron Wyatt (controversial figure I know, prob a spy for Israel as Saudi officials thought who just happened to find so much - to be used by the false messiah in the future?) around the Gulf of Aqaba and Arabian Peninsula lining up with the exodus story, etc. The shroud of Turin is another amazing witness said to be the most scientifically studied artifact on earth and still baffles explanation (despite ongoing false media claims long discredited like the falsified carbon test).
@@AllOtherNamesUsed The Shroud of Turin is an easy one to disprove using Gods Word. Just as according to Jewish custom when Christ was buried his face was wrapped separately from his body. The Shroud of Turin would not have included his face if authentic. Research also points to the nose being broken on the Shroud. Scripture was fulfilled correctly and no bone was broken on Christ. Isaiah states his body was marred beyond any man. The Shroud is just a laughable, inauthentic piece of Catholic idolatry. Another one of their graven images of you ask me. “Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.” John 20:6-7 KJV “He keepeth all his bones: Not one of them is broken.” Psalm 34:20 “As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:” Isaiah 52:14 KJV
@@St.MosestheBlack you prove the point about the rampant disinfo people who dispute the shroud buy into. I’ve studied the shroud for over a decade, originally discounting it because the carbon testing fiasco that was proven false by Dr Ray Rogers who was trying to debunk the shroud and helped do the opposite! High level scientists and specialists in many disciplines and all the solid info supports authenticity. I don’t need it for my faith, but it’s real. The apostles seem to allude to it in some epistles as well and there are even foreshadows in the old testament. It also predates anything to do with the Catholic church so bringing that up is itself a laughably desperate non sequitur. And no it doesn’t conflict with scriptures at all and no bones are broken, cartilage and disjointing and swelling yes. John 20.6-7 proves the face wrap was removed and is yet more evidence of authenticity since we have the Oviedo cloth still preserved matching up with the shroud details and has an even older known chain of custody. John 19.39 shows Nicodemus brought ointment and aloes which are used to anoint the body which logically means he would try to clean the body as best he could before sundown which is why the blood stains don’t completely smear the shroud but only around the wound areas still seeping out. It makes total sense and top forensic experts like Dr Zebede has examined the image and stains and supports authenticity. I’m not a catholic and don’t need the shroud but I also can’t deny how powerful it is as physical evidence with 3D image information that defies explanation still to this day of space age technology.

I do believe that there was such a thing as a snake that talked, because, sin corrupted things even down to the genetic level. People will say, "well, how would a snake be able to talk when snakes don't?" But people today who say that can only go off of the animals after the fall. Whereas before the fall, the animals could have talked. Animals even may have looked different then they do today. Although Genesis isn't about snake anatomy, it still doesn't dismiss that snakes could have talked, or even all the animals.

Yep. A big agreement. This whole modern idea that we need to use our standard of historical recording against Biblical writers is ridiculous. Likewise with our culture. When people attack God because He "commanded His army to kill babies" but ignore the context, the culture and all the truth, that's annoying. Then we have so many pastors and TH-cam Bible teachers trying to justify something out-of-context and apologize for God.

So, if Genesis 1 (and later texts that reference back or allude to it) furnishes a particular cosmology - I should regard that as error because it conflicts with the modern scientific establishment (though _that_ may be erroneous) . . . ?
It's a "particular cosmology" yes, but the point here is that it's a particularly ancient Jewish cosmology that must be understood on THOSE terms. It is BOUND to conflict with ANYTHING modern, even the "scientific establishment." We need a more flexible mindset in order to hold to Biblical Inerrancy while not rejecting other ways God reveals truth to us, even through the advancements of science. We are told by the scripture to avoid the contradictions of "science FALSELY so called..." in other words, things purported to be reasonable and true which aren't. This of course calls for discernment, and discernment for the Holy Spirit. Please reply if this makes sense. I find in these circumstances, when you are being tempted by spiritual forces, the only way I have found is prayer along with making it harder. For example, I don’t sleep with my phone in reach, meaning if I am tempted I need to make a decision to walk and get it.
"Trustworthy" is not "inerrant". To be "inerrant" is to _never_ be incorrect. For example - the biblical writer who told of the exodus from Egypt, when there is no historical evidence that any such thing happened. Is that 'inerrant' because the writer believed it happened? What if instead of hundreds of thousands leaving Egypt and wandering the desert for years, it was a couple of hundred who weren't even noticed by Egypt, and they wandered for months until settling down. It really sounds like you mean 'inerrant' to be 'if it is found to be wrong, we can ignore it'. What about things that are just factually incorrect? Do you believe there was a talking snake? Or should we just take that as myth? If that is myth, then cool - but then it is just a story and the God that walked the garden with Adam is only as real as Zeus. You seem to want to have it both ways - to be able to use the Bible as an authority when your interpretation agrees with your biases, but then you can dismiss as 'metaphor' or 'theological truth' instead of 'historical fact' those things you don't think support your interpretation. Without any rule beyond how you feel about it.
I really don’t like when academics make fun of the bible. Academics constantly get stuff wrong and always have to correct their work. String theory has less evidence to it then the bible does. Historians bring up Plato a lot but there is less proof for his existence then Jesus, many more such cases. It’s all very hypocritical. I have a love for science but you have to be aware it’s a method, interpreted by humans that are more often then not wrong about their experiments and hypothesise. Philosophy and faith are much different to science.
Thank you again @ Dr.Mike for all your years of study. I’ve seen the Word in a deeper truth by how you give us your vast knowledge & how the culture of the Bible is different than our time. I always enjoy learning.
Michael, you know that mental assent" does not reveal the TRUTH. Ask Peter and Nicodemus, they both could not understand, what was really happened. One a fisherman, the other, "the teacher of Israel". It must be revealed by the Spirit!
Everybody is missing the point by focusing on Dr. Heiser's statement about the serpent. His whole point is to just not look at the bible the way we often do in the modern world. If the serpent was just a literal, physical snake, then shouldn't the first prophesy ever have been a man literally crushing a snake under his heel while being bit by it? But that's not what it was about. The point is, inerrancy is legit.
If the accuracy of the expression is maleable, in what way does that differ from metaphor? If it is all just metaphor then where is that line being drawn and why? Are God and Jesus just part of the metaphor? As for errors, it was B and they said A it's something I'm overly familiar with, however controdictions within the Bible are rather common. You mentioned numbers, giving an example of rounding, but often later retellings within the Bible are increased by an order of magnitude of more. (See Solomon's horses, 1 Kings 4:26, 2 Chron. 9:25) But the far more damning contradictions are those related to the nature of God. My current favorite being the issue of inherited sin. If you think the Bible contains no contributions, read Exodus 34:7 and Ezekiel 18:19-20 for yourself.
That 's funny : kings and chronicles are written from the two separate kingdoms points of view: just as the Hittites and Egyptians claimed victory at in the same battle. They are contradictory because they are both propaganda against the other kingdoms narrative. That is a poor example of real contradictions.
@@davidjanbaz7728 how so? Even if you are right in what way does that preserve inerrancy? It only seems to prove the point. Regardless, as I said numerical controdictions are unimportant. I'd love to hear what you thought about the other passages!
Dr Heiser addresses both big numbers and "inherited sin" on his podcast. I don't know exactly what you mean by "inherited sin", but if you want to know Dr Heiser's position, he also has a multi-post series on his blog on Romans 5:12.
@@mariemilycraig I may check that out! However I'd be surprised if he dealt with the reason I bring up the passages. To use the same language as both verses I had referenced, inherited sin is "the iniquities of the father", and though I certainly take moral issue with the idea, the Bible cannot make up its mind on weather that is part of the theology or not, so the moral problem is far less relevant given one can cherry pick to avoid having it be part of their beliefs regardless. The issue is the direct controdiction, not inherited sin itself.
Then there's English translations. Preposition is a problem. The gospel of Christ, is the gospel from Christ, not, about Christ. Persons in the bible, contradict each other, or themselves, without intent, yet, the book is not contradictory.
THE HOLY BIBLE IS A PROFOUND BOOK,………..NOBODY CAN REALLY EXPLAIN IT,……….IT IS THE MIND OF GOD,…………FOR IT IS WRITTEN,…………FOR MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS , NEITHER ARE YOUR WAYS MY WAYS , SAITH THE LORD . ISAIAH 55 : 8 KJV
As a philosopher I completely understand the concept of "truth propositions." And there is an important distinction between the truth of a proposition and the way it is expressed. However, taken too far, Dr. Heiser's view seems to de-mythologize the text. For example, in the Gen 3 account I think it does matter that there is a non-human entity (the serpent) speaking to Eve. Indeed, the text offers a historical narrative about the creature in question. For example, "...the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made." (ESV). Consequently, I think it is a mistake to disregard this aspect of the text because it entails we believe in talking snakes just to try to get to what the writer "was really saying." This is a rationalist approach to hermeneutics that I think we should be very cautious about.
I understand a little bit, but im still confused by what you mean. I was lost around the example of the serpent being more crafty than any of the other creatures Yahweh made. I believe the serpent was a diving serpent being. Then my mind trails off into whether or not the serpent was always there, and this one particular day managed to tempt humanity. But what are you trying to say, just so I can further understand your point?
" because it entails we believe in talking snakes" *The only reason the concept of a 'snake' was ever injected was due to an absolute ignorance of how to read the texts via the cultural traditions they originated in, Epistemologies, Etymologies, etc. There was a time no one on planet earth thought there were talking snakes in the garden. That kind of specified applied ignorance has to be invented by an even more generalized inherited ignorance. The de-generation of Historical Hermeneutics began when Rome hijacked Judaism and Christianity. Thats how we got talking snakes.*
What people should realize is that in hearing Heizer on this subject, they are hearing someone who is very much knowledgeable in and careful with his use of logic and reasoning in developing his arguments. So much error in Christian teaching is due to sloppy, and therefore invalid, argumentation. Reason, and its methods (logic) are God-given gifts to be employed with excellence in the work of the Gospel and advance of the Kingdom. Heizer does this extremely well. One benefit of sound logic, clear thinking, is that it helps us overcome the problem we all struggle with, namely, our prejudices and preconceived notions, or as he says here: "imposing our own modern views on the Bible." Faith and Reason were given by God to work together as co-laborers in the field of man's mind. It is the man-made movement called The Enlightenment that set the two against each other. We, in the West, have inherited that heresy and must restore God's partnership of the two.
Modern views shouldn’t be imposed on the text, but modern information can help us understand the text deeper and test the reliability. The modern science of genetics proves snakes had limbs as the coding for it was found in the genome - did Moses just get lucky? It was prophesied that knowledge would be increased and it seems prophesy is making more sense and our world is beginning to resemble the book of Revelation more and more. (A new temple ministry operating in Jerusalem will be the big sign to look for like the fruitless fig tree regrown.) We also have the astronomical software that we can use to see the sign John described in Rev 12.1 (Virgo) at the time Christ was born and the ‘star’ of Bethlehem (Zedeq “Righteousness”/Jupiter) making the maneuvers Matthew described. The image/idol given life and able to speak in Rev 13 also sounds something like advanced A.I. Interesting stuff.
The problem with the issue of Genesis 3 is that people are too busy trying to call the bible stupid because they want to project the idea that the serpent was an animal. They ignore the fact that the bible make it clear that the serpent is satan not some animal.
Well, I think its unclear by the texts that the entity we know as the Cherub satan was that specific entity. There is an ancient Rabbinic idea that a Seraph was tempted by the Cherub satan much in the same way Adam and Eve were and made promises similar to those offered them so that the Serpah would incur the punishment and he would not. There is no way to prove this happened but there is also no way to prove the entity in the garden was satan. What we do know is that it was not an animal or reptile.*

@@lilchristuten7568 "However there are plenty of scriptures referring to demons as serpents" *Ya, course there are. I just have never found any that identify the Seraph in the garden.*
@@lilchristuten7568 *I think the strongest argument that can be made is to link the synchronization of the temptation of Jesus to the temptation of Adam and Eve but that has a few problems. Most of all we're not specifically told the identity of the 'satan' that tempted Jesus. We assume its THE satan but it could be 'a satan.' There are many principalities that rule the earth and they could have simply banded together and sent a representative to Jesus to make Him an offer and it could have been THE satan that brokered that. That would synchronize both temptations.*
The idea that the Bible is inerrant and without contradictions has been clearly refuted. The bible writers were incredibly wise. Before they wrote down the words now contained in it they received them through oral traditions. At times differing traditions. The solution? Include the various tellings of a story. Genesus 1 and 2 are two separate and contradictory versions of creation! And thats totally okay. Same for the gospels. 3 retellings of the original penned by Mark which often expand and change his version of events. They were like artists who will paint a portrait based on the work of a prior master. Think of how many different versions of the Last Supper painting you have seen based upon Leonardo Davinci's original. This does not take away from the Majesty of the scriptures if anything it makes me respect them more because it means that they allowed for plurality of thought while maintaining the truthful integrity found behind the stories. If only Christ's followers would do the same.
"I can't conclude that Luke is wrong." This type of cautious, more-antagonistic-than-neutral language (the language of secular scholars), is excruciatingly non-spiritual. Although technically correct, it is too humanistic to be Biblically accurate. What I mean is, the language Dr. Heiser is using to defend the Bible DOES impose on the text. With his verbiage, he is imposing a series of man-centered qualifiers upon the text that do not reflect the essential theocentric qualifier which qualifies the text in the first place: it is the word of God. Almost every page of sacred scripture is covered with attestations, not just to the truthfulness of the word that is being written, but also to the divine authority and power by which it has been delivered. Dr. Heiser gives a good explanation here of how he personally reconciles using the crticial analytical language standard in academia, while maintaining a greater conviction and faith than is present in the language he is required to use. I understand that for him, and many others, he is confirming a confident belief in Luke by saying, "I can't conclude that Luke is wrong." I understand it, I just don't agree with it. Similar to how, in Dr. Heiser's explanation about truth claims, differing language can refer to the same thing. What I think Dr. Heiser, and others, fail to understand is that the intention of such critical language is for skeptic exploration, and as a result it is more favorable for doubt and skepticism. The reason atheists and radical skeptics are so slippery and hard to pin down in a debate, is because they don't believe in anything. This type of critical language may work well in academic debates, but for those who desire to marvel at God, such strictly dispassionate language leaves a lot to be desired. Despite all this, Dr. Heiser still manages to be compelling, convey Biblical messages, and give others confidence in the word of God. I can only conclude that he has been blessed, however the language remains inherently secularized. To be clear, I pretty much agree with everything Dr. Heiser said. It's extraordinarily fundamental to learn not to impose upon scripture anything that does not belong there, and to let the text speak for itself. My only contention is with the non-committal language. May God bless Dr. Heiser, and also you reading. The grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
THE BIBLE HAS BEEN CHANGED MANY TIMES, EVEN IN JEREMIAH’S DAY! Have you ever heard a Neo Evangelical say, “I know God would never let His Word be mistranslated, so I can be sure the King James Bible does not have a single error in it!” We hear more and more false preachers and teachers telling their flocks that, not only that the original books of the Bible are “inerrant,” or “infallible,” but now they’re saying a translation that was made in 1611, by a group of translators who worked for the Church of England, the same church that was started just a few years before by a king (Henry VIII) who wanted to get rid of his first, Catholic wife, because she couldn’t produce a male heir and ended up with 5 wives (two whom he murdered), and multiple mistresses…yeah, the translators in the church started by THAT GUY, were somehow magically controlled by God to produce a perfect edition of His Word??? Not really!!! There are actually a LOT of errors in the King James Bible and, sadly, many newer translations into English by Neo Evangelical (Fundamentalist) Bible book publishing companies continue to keep many of those errors! Why? Simple! In order to preserve many a false doctrine of Churchianity that emerged over the centuries, even by the end of the First Century CE! This is nothing new. There was a Jewish prophet named Jeremiah, who lived during the time when the Kingdom of Judah was losing more and more of its independence until, finally, it was attacked one last time by the King of Babylon who laid the city to waste and destroyed the First Temple that had been built by King Solomon. In his Bible book, he complained about the way in which scribes were changing the words of, what was then, the Judahite (Jewish) Bible-the Torah, or what is now often called the Five Books of Moses! In verse 8:8 he said (in the Berean Study Bible), “How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the Law of the LORD is with us,’ when in fact the lying pen of the scribes has produced a deception?” What then, does this mean for us today? Well, we have to use the brains God gave us and take full advantage of the scholarly disciplines of Textual and Contextual Criticism in order to pour over all the copies of copies of copies of the original Bible texts (because the originals or "autographs" have long been lost to the ravages of history) in order to determine which of the many thousands of differing copies are most likely to say what the original autographs said, and then, “rightly divide” them to determine which parts apply to us today! It’s not been “changed”. Interpretations may change a contextual understanding, but overall the books are all pretty accurately preserved telling real history
This seems disorienting. People, atheists or not, do not seek inerrancy in people, the writers of the Bible, but in God. You can't blame them when are told the Bible must be inerrant. Why must it be inerrant? Did God say that? Did God have to plan it that way? Could He have had another plan with different purposes? The problem that know seems to pick up on, is that the Christian faith was never meant to be based on the Bible, but on God drawing you near to Him through His Spirit, teaching your spirit, then giving you His Spirit. If this is not true in your life, then you feel you need the Bible to be inerrant because your faith is based on it and not on His revealed Presence to you. The Bible was meant to a human guidebook inspired by God in purposes, not to be written by God. Trying to prove to yourself the resurrection through the Bible and history, is just proving He has not revealed Himself as resurrected and living. If He has revealed Himself to you, you speak about that firstly and above all, not about Him being revealed to the apostles. Do you understand friends? Apologetics has lost its way, and is now misleading people to satisfy their mind, not God. Apologetics are a tool and a blessing, only if there is proper divine perspective and priority. Allow me an example. If the God of Genesis is revealed to you, you don't base your life on Genesis, but on Him. Genesis can too be revealed to you so that you understand all of its strange claims, but if it's not, do you still have the God of Genesis? You should. But what about Genesis and some of it's answered issues then? Well, they are then just unanswered issues, to be proven as mistakes, as purposeful planned mistakes, or as secret and hidden knowledge. But has the God of Genesis been revealed to you? Have you believed, repented and been baptized? If so, all else, is secondary since your faith is based on Him and His Holy Spirit, not on His provided guidebook; it's there to aid your journey, not to become your idol replacing Him. May God give you His increase, amen.
@@outofthebox7 He also said "unless you are born of water and of the Spirit you can not enter the Kingdom of God". Oh boy once your spirit is born (awake to His existence) He will show you around the Kingdom like a Father holding a childs hand walking down a path. Once bathed in His love and care He begins to show you that you have rights, privileges, and responsibilities. Your responsibilities are tied to the unique skillset placed in you. The Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you as you pay attention to His still small Voice. Your provision is already in place whenever you need it. I could say more but its in humility and reverence not fear I serve Him.
"Have you believed, repented and been baptized?" *Where do you take this from? This is straight from a specific text. Where does this text come from???*
@@thetruthchannel349 Your question disregards my context. That text is 100% verifiable ONLY if its Inspirer reveals Himself to you. That complete canon text was not around till centuries after, yet people still followed the Living God and the teachings of Jesus Christ and His apostles. So for my answer to be more clear to you, I received that belied from the Holy Spirit through the pperson that evangelized me. Therefore I do not get what I believe from someone's text, but from the God that provided the text. He doesn't need the text to convey anything, He chose the text to convey His will in order that we remember it; He could have done this another way, e.g. through strict oral tradition, passing on simple fundamental teachings. As I clearly said, it is His guidebook, it's not Him.
@@outofthebox7 *'YOUR 'CONTEXT' is IRRELEVANT. Where did you get "Have you believed, repented and been baptized?" in the first place? What is the orientation of this text's origination??*
Hebrewed up a story and everybody believed it anyways.. Errors and plagairizations r the reason the temple been broke twice already.. BigDaddy dares u try for 3.. Hittite is Jew
The tricky thing about the wait-and-see approach is that it works with anything. Hittites were eventually found you see, so therefore everything in the Koran is accurate, just wait and see. Apparently we are still waiting for Tyre to be destroyed and never rebuilt - since it's quite a busy little town right now. At some point in the future, "The hooves of his horses will trample all your streets" and "he will kill your people with the sword". I have a friend who is convinced this is going to take place in the future and this prophecy be fulfilled. I'm not holding my breath.
Praying for Dr. Michael Heiser. I have several versions of Bible. Can you tell me which is the better version to read and to give as a gift. Right now I’m reading through the NLT and the ESV.
Thank you for pressing along. I am hoping and desiring God's continued use for you here before our catching away. The left behind need our record and testimonies
This is a perfect example of moving the goal posts. The definition of inerrancy is without error. Trying to redefine it so that it fits your view of scripture is intellectually dishonest. If a holy book has errors in it then should you put your hope of eternal life in it? The whole of Christianity rests on this question.
I don’t have any college degrees and I’ve never attended seminary classes but I’ve been studying the Bible (and church history) for myself since 1958 and learned much under my parents’ tutelage during the fourteen years before that. I don’t remember ever discussing “inerrancy” with my parents (they died in the 1980s) but I don’t remember them ever promoting the doctrine of verbal inerrancy. I think of the Bible writers as “inspired” in the sense of being supernaturally given insights into both history and the mind of God or/and being “inspired” in the sense that God would have intervened or overruled events is such a way as to prevent errors of what Dr. Heiser calls “reliability of truth propositions” but I think of the Bible as being written mostly in the Bible writers’ own words. The exception would be when something is preceded by the phrase “Thus saith the Lord” or something similar. I have no argument with considering the 66 books of the protestant Bible as being inspired but it isn’t because I was ever willing to “assume” that to be the case. Instead, beginning in 1958, I compared the later books with those I believe were written by Moses - the Penteteuch and Job - and, using what I call “the principle of prior reference, I have assumed that any books should be discarded (or at least “placed on the back burner”) until each of us is satisfied that they aren’t antithetical to those earlier books. I think it is a mistake to read the Bible backward (reading the Gospels and Epistles first and then trying to make the meaning of the Hebrew Bible conform to medieval interpretations of the Gospels and the Epistles).
I am a fan of Dr. Heiser. Having said that I don’t see why he didn’t address the question of innerancy(free of error) and infallibility(incapable of error) which are both classic definitions and the elephants in the room.
@@mariemilycraig Hi, it appears you are making an argument from silence. He could have addressed the elephants in the class and it was not included in this snippet, or, he could not have and that is why the snippet appears as such. Because the snippet does not, my point stands.
Absolutely (unwarranted conclusions of “error”). Apply that to the depth of the Paleo Hebrew letter meanings that give additional depth to the words they form…. “) I couldn’t resist!
I have heard rumors of there being another book in The Facade series??? I hope this is true, as the second book left us hanging!!! God bless you Dr Heiser for your work in making the bible accessible and understandable.
The snake comes in and does his opposing will when we refuse to obey . The forbidden fruit was not eating / feed from the creation but from the bread of life. That is the first comandment . Eve saw that the created / fruit Adam was good . She went for him and Adam inadvertently also eat . That is when the second commandment was made greater or equal with the first. Cannot exist in the garden of eden if creation gives glory to creation , instead of Creator . This sermon is not preached .
I hope you all realize that what Michael Heiser really said here was that he DOES NOT believe that the Bible is inerrant or infalible. Period. Now he happens to be right on this point but he is dead wrong on the statement that " Inerrancy is one of those things that everybody gets to define. " That way leads to error and madness. If we all can have our own definitions, then words means absolutely nothing. Inerrancy clearly means without any mistakes and nothing that man has ever touched is infallible and inerrant and without mistakes. The Bible as we possess it has all kinds of mistakes just like any other book written by men, even inspired men. Fortunately, we have zero need of an infallible Bible and the Bible never claims to be infallible and Biblical infallibility was never an article of faith in the early church. The Gospel is NOT faith in the Bible, it is faith in Jesus of Nazareth as the God who created the universe and died to save us from our sins. Adding belief in Biblical infallibility to the Gospel is teaching a false Gospel. What we do need is a functionally reliable Bible that tells us about Jesus and we do have that, and that is what Heiser really said. It is preposterous that he feels it necessary to lie and redefine terms that have clear meanings because most evangelicals have made infallibility the PRIMARY article of faith. Asking a guy to start out by lying to you seldom ends well.
You had me in agreement, up until you proclaimed the false gospel, that it is faith in Jesus. It is not. Mark 1:14-15 is the gospel, straight from Christ. He even, calls it the gospel, and proclaimed it is to be preached. Matthew 24:14. You have proclaimed a false gospel. The gospel FROM Christ, is the gospel of Christ.
You can't make claims that the Bible is an authoritative work of divine inspiration and also make the claim that one cannot objectively show there are in fact errors in the text. Regardless of whether you believe the proposition of the errors, you must objectively admit that the text is capable of being erroneous, or else your claim of authority is simply one of belief and not fact. You can believe the text is infallible, but you cannot demand adherence to that idea if the text is incapable of being disproven logically, linguistically, archeologically or by any other means.
Check out what the Israeli archeologist Israel Finkelstein has to say about the historical reliability of the Hebrew Bible and about its authorship. Then you will see that this guy isn‘t a serious bible scholar but an apologist.

THE BIBLE IS BEST DESCRIBED AS A 10,000 PIECE JIGSAW PUZZLE...THAT IS MISSING ABOUT HALF THE PIECES! If only we had one book that had descended to earth, directly from God, in words we all understood, and it contained only what God wanted for all of us, at all times and in every circumstance! There are more than a few religious leaders, preachers and teachers who try to make it seem like there is such a singular book they call THE BIBLE. Trouble is--no such book exists! What is so often called "THE Bible," is actually a very broad array of many different collections of books, in many different languages, not always containing the same books, which are not translated from the original copies of any of them, because every single one of the original "autographs" have been lost, and all we have are copies...of copies of copies of copies...and even those differ one from the other! OK, so let's say we can at least agree that the original writings were, every one "inerrant." Apparently not! At the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy, that was held in Chicago in October 1978, a very conservative group, came out with a statement declaring what "inerrancy" of the bible meant, and all they did was re-define the meaning of the word "inerrancy" to exclude the 1000s of discrepancies between all the copies of copies of copies of texts that had been discovered up to that time, and they refused to recognize the results of the discipline of Contextual Criticism, the way all legit scholars of antiquity determine what parts of any copy of ancient documents is most likely in accord with the originals and which are not! OK, so let's just say we could agree on what scholars tell us which texts most likely represent the original writings of the bible books...then you have to ask, "Which books?" Today's Protestant Bible, for example, has 27 New Testament books, but before 1807, it had only 26, before the American Bible Society surreptitiously removed the Introduction page to the apocryphal books, like Revelation, which was often added to their printed editions! OK, so let's say we agree on what Protestants thought of as "The" Bible books before the 19th Century. Then how to know which parts of the that Bible represent God speaking to us today, and which parts not? Jesus, himself, said the Law of Moses was given for the hardness of men's hearts, a stop gap measure, not the full and final version of what God really wanted to tell us! OK, so let's say, for Christians, what really matters is what Jesus said, and everything else, such as the Old Testament and the later Epistles, must be interpreted through the prism of what Jesus taught and not the other way around. Well, maybe we're now getting to the heart of the matter...as long as we understand Jesus often spoke in parables, and more than a few times, employed the use of hyperbole, and probably because his real views, had he expressed them openly and unreservedly from the get go of his public ministry, he would have been killed right away, and we would never have even heard of him...so he also spoke as if he agreed with what the Pharisees taught, only to put a little twist on them, as his way of conveying his real positions but only to those "who had ears to hear." Is, then, "inerrancy" the word to describe the process of peeling back all the many layers of trying to get at what Jesus of Nazareth was really driving at and what was, centuries after their deaths, attributed to Moses, the Jewish prophets and writers of the New Testament? Well, how about another term that much better fits what we have to work with--a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle! Depending on what's included (just the Greek and Hebrew or the Latin and other language versions), there are somewhere between 6,000 and 20,000 texts of the Bible, none of them the originals, but copies of copies of copies. So, more than a few people are content to claim one version of this puzzle, pieced together by representatives of one particular religious sect that began when a murderous king wanted to get rid of his Catholic wife that could not bear him a male heir, the King James Bible, is somehow miraculously equal to the original autographs, and every part of it (well, as cherry picked and then proclaimed from pulpits) represents what God says to everyone today. However, if we apply honest scholarship to weed out all the fake pieces someone cut out and added to the box (using Textual Criticism), and do our best not to cram pieces together with others where they, in context, do not really fit (using Contextual Criticism), even though what remains represents only about half of what was in the original box, a pretty good picture emerges...that is, if one is willing to accept that picture for what it is, regardless of how well it compares to or contrasts with the image created by Churchianity!

Then suddenly I am just hit so hard and i cant look or do anything that does not give me lustful issues. Once I sadly fall to my sin i am hit with massive guilt, and then the wave subsides. Then comes back harder, seems like im getting more underwater each time it comes back though.
Of course there’s talking snakes,
there’s countless of them still walking around in DC.
And as Moses lifted up the serpent [the "nachash" of Numbers 21.9 recalling the earthly event between Eve and the nachash] in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up"_ (John 3.12-14)
_”Then the LORD sent fiery serpents [lit. the seraphim (and) the nechashim] among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.
“Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.”
John 20:6-7 KJV
“He keepeth all his bones: Not one of them is broken.”
Psalm 34:20
“As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:”
Isaiah 52:14 KJV
@@St.MosestheBlack you prove the point about the rampant disinfo people who dispute the shroud buy into. I’ve studied the shroud for over a decade,
originally discounting it because the carbon testing fiasco that was proven false by Dr Ray Rogers who was trying to debunk the shroud and helped do the opposite!

Blessings to you and yours this Christmas season, as we meditate on these cosmic truths--God immanent--"Immanuel."
And just maybe, ancient Hebrew cosmology and all other ancient cultures were correct......

Hello everyone!!! I need help!!!!!!!!! Im trying to figure out why my sinful ways. (In my particular case LUST) Seems to come in waves. For example I can go a week or a few with no issues. Then suddenly I am just hit so hard and i cant look or do anything that does not give me lustful issues. Once I sadly fall to my sin i am hit with massive guilt, and then the wave subsides. Then comes back harder, seems like im getting more underwater each time it comes back though.
I find in these circumstances, when you are being tempted by spiritual forces, the only way I have found is prayer along with making it harder. For example, I don’t sleep with my phone in reach, meaning if I am tempted I need to make a decision to walk and get it.

Lower your standards, and you'll never be disappointed........ bottom feeding for Jesus.
Love you Dr. Heiser. Sending love and prayers for healing and comfort to God Almighty thru Jesus, for you and your family.

But the far more damning contradictions are those related to the nature of God.
Gods blessings on you Dr Heiser and family. I have learned so much from your teachings. Thank you so much.
100%
I understand a little bit, but im still confused by what you mean.
I was lost around the example of the serpent being more crafty than any of the other creatures Yahweh made.
I believe the serpent was a diving serpent being. Then my mind trails off into whether or not the serpent was always there, and this one particular day managed to tempt humanity.
But what are you trying to say, just so I can further understand your point?
*Theres also a principle in basic philosophy that states 'If there is no reason to complicate something then do not'*
@@patrickmcdonnell2067 I was just gonna say that. The whole of DMSHs work is about RE-mythologizing, if anything.
(A new temple ministry operating in Jerusalem will be the big sign to look for like the fruitless fig tree regrown.)
We also have the astronomical software that we can use to see the sign John described in Rev 12.1 (Virgo) at the time Christ was born and the ‘star’ of Bethlehem (Zedeq “Righteousness”/Jupiter) making the maneuvers Matthew described. The image/idol given life and able to speak in Rev 13 also sounds something like advanced A.I.
Interesting stuff.
Heiser doesn’t have inerrancy. His takes are just wonderful, but I tire of the worship of him.

There are no errors in scripture or contradictions either...there are errors in interpretation.

Have you ever heard a Neo Evangelical say, “I know God would never let His Word be mistranslated, so I can be sure the King James Bible does not have a single error in it!”
We hear more and more false preachers and teachers telling their flocks that, not only that the original books of the Bible are “inerrant,” or “infallible,” but now they’re saying a translation that was made in 1611, by a group of translators who worked for the Church of England, the same church that was started just a few years before by a king (Henry VIII) who wanted to get rid of his first, Catholic wife, because she couldn’t produce a male heir and ended up with 5 wives (two whom he murdered), and multiple mistresses…yeah, the translators in the church started by THAT GUY, were somehow magically controlled by God to produce a perfect edition of His Word???
In verse 8:8 he said (in the Berean Study Bible), “How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the Law of the LORD is with us,’ when in fact the lying pen of the scribes has produced a deception?”
What then, does this mean for us today? Well, we have to use the brains God gave us and take full advantage of the scholarly disciplines of Textual and Contextual Criticism in order to pour over all the copies of copies of copies of the original Bible texts (because the originals or "autographs" have long been lost to the ravages of history) in order to determine which of the many thousands of differing copies are most likely to say what the original autographs said, and then, “rightly divide” them to determine which parts apply to us today!
Rick Lannoye (the Deception Detector), author of www.amazon.com/Real-Life-Jesus-Nazareth-Really-Stood-ebook/dp/B09V4BJ62D

This is a snippet from a class he teaches in person. We don't know what else was addressed at that time.
@@mariemilycraig Hi, it appears you are making an argument from silence. He could have addressed the elephants in the class and it was not included in this snippet, or, he could not have and that is why the snippet appears as such. Because the snippet does not, my point stands.

Is the atom and diagrams you studied in middle school science right or wrong?
Check out what the Israeli archeologist Israel Finkelstein has to say about the historical reliability of the Hebrew Bible and about its authorship. Then you will see that this guy isn‘t a serious bible scholar but an apologist.
I don't think so. The Biblical text has often been shown to be pretty reliable.

I wish you wouldn't impose it regarding biblical cosmology either 🏞👐🏻
OK, so let's just say we could agree on what scholars tell us which texts most likely represent the original writings of the bible books...then you have to ask, "Which books?"
Today's Protestant Bible, for example, has 27 New Testament books, but before 1807, it had only 26, before the American Bible Society surreptitiously removed the Introduction page to the apocryphal books, like Revelation, which was often added to their printed editions!
Well, maybe we're now getting to the heart of the matter...as long as we understand Jesus often spoke in parables, and more than a few times, employed the use of hyperbole, and probably because his real views, had he expressed them openly and unreservedly from the get go of his public ministry, he would have been killed right away, and we would never have even heard of him...so he also spoke as if he agreed with what the Pharisees taught, only to put a little twist on them, as his way of conveying his real positions but only to those "who had ears to hear."
Is, then, "inerrancy" the word to describe the process of peeling back all the many layers of trying to get at what Jesus of Nazareth was really driving at and what was, centuries after their deaths, attributed to Moses, the Jewish prophets and writers of the New Testament?
