I used about 1" long colored pieces of heat shrink to match the elements. I found this also gave a little traction/grip to twisting the elements together. Great vid.

some people still don't believe me when I say I've made 100 mile contacts with the four element version. I'm glad you put that in.
I have made some killer long distance contacts with a 5W HT and that antenna. Elevation atop a mountain top helps a lot. 73
My longest contact is 211.5 miles From the Big Island to Oahu during our annual VHF/UHF grid madness contest.
Good hints. I use different color electrical tape for each pair of elements and also on the boom. I like your idea of the clear heat shrink tubing to keep the labels on. I have seen, (somewhere) where a fellow had drilled a series of holes along each edge of the boom to remove material to reduce weight. Since you are only needing a couple feet of coax, maybe using RG174 coax will save a few ounces. And, leave the 440 elements at home. Good video, Randy
Good idea on the different color tape and RG174. I have toyed with the idea of speed holes in the boom but haven't gotten to that stage yet. I'm thinking of building a super lightweight Arrow antenna clone that is 2m only. Will have to add it to the to do list for 2018. That issue sounds common. I climbed for ten years. Many peaks have multiple frequencies, including big fm broadcast.
Try thin elements with push nuts. That's what I have used

Does this work for uhf/vhf direction finding?
Color coding the elements would be a whole lot easier.
Paint the tips of matching elements different colors... a good paint will last forever.

Great video especially the tips. Many of us use these with great success. I am thinking of drilling the boom to lighten it further for handheld satellite work… quite a few folk have done that however it ‘feels’ wrong to butcher it up! Let’s see. 73 Nick M1DDD (also a few sat vids on my channel)
I went that route and found that the AL boom in cold weather was a huge heat sink. I have since moved on to a CF boom. Have fun with it. 73
The Elk VHF/UHF Satellite log periodic for FM and SSB birds have all elements in the same plane and works as well as the Arrow II dual Yagi which have its VHF elements 90 degrees from the UHF elements. The Arrow II has build in 10W Diplexer which is not required by the Elk. Why does the Yagi require 90 deg phase polarization difference yet the Elk LPDA does not?

I just got my antenna yesterday. Do you have a follow-on video about how to mount it on a tripod?
The boom has a predrilled hole under the handle. I added a new hole near the center of the boom.
Make sure you have a tripod with a strong swivel...that or counter balance it with a pole going out of the back side of it as well. Or as KB1HQS said, drill a hole in the middle of the boom. 73's KO4GLF

I attached the antenna by drilling a hole through both the antenna boom and tripod mount. Then I used a small bolt with nut to hold it all together. 73
@@KB1HQS Why not just use the standard 1/4-20 of the tripod?

Is the aluminum element used in this antenna or is it like an aluminum tube?
The antenna in the video is an Arrow antenna, the boom is an aluminum sqaure tube and the elements are actual aluminum arrow shafts. 73
what do you use as a feedline is the length critical
I usually keep the length under 15'. It is VHF, so shorter the better.

How did you mount this on a tripod?
I drilled a hole in the boom and mounted a bolt in my tripod to fit the boom on.

Drilled a hole through the boom and used a 1/4" bolt with nut to secure it to my tripod.
How do you mount your antenna to the tripod.
The boom has a threaded hole under the foam handle. I wanted the antenna better balanced so I just drilled a hole in the middle of boom and ran a bolt thru it.
Well...12 minutes and your didn´t even show the whole freaking antenna!!
