    Many artists had the same problem as Dusty when it comes to getting the public to listen to their new music, as they all want the classics. Prince once said, the fans just want him to play the old classics and was not interested in the new stuff. When Bowie said he was not performing anymore of the old hits, his fans went mad and so he had to change his mind. Dusty was definitely the best female singer from the UK, that's for sure. Thank you for uploading

    So wonderful to hear Dusty speaking throughout. Favorite bit was her talking about Carole King and what transpired between them for "Going Back." Dusty referenced Dionne Warwick but at the time, Dionne probably just really felt threatened by Dusty (who she viewed as a competitor for the Bacharach songs). It is clear that Bacharach and David wrote the majority of their songs for Dionne. Dusty always loved Dionne's voice. In later years, Dionne would praise Dusty's voice as well. Glad Dusty heard that praise.

    I was lucky to meet Dusty, and sing with her just one time. One of my few regrets in life is that I allowed other people to come between us. With some sixth sense she had, she recognized me as a kindred spirit the moment we met, and I've always felt that I let her down by not powering thru the music biz bullshit that was thrown in my way to keep me away from her. She died much too young, and give a bit more time, I might have come to my senses.

      @@cyyoung9175 First time I met her, I walked into her dressing room for an after gig gathering at the Albert Hall. As I walked in, Dusty took one look at me, and with a big smile on her face said "Who the fuck are you?" Straight up, no word of a lie. Modesty aside, I did look pretty good back then, at least she thought so. Naturally I smiled back, walked over and struck up a conversation. I was even more impressed with her in person than on her records...not surprising really. If you listen to 'Fascination' on my mickleesongs channel, I think you'll understand why our voices blended so well together.

      @@cyyoung9175 I remember getting cut out as she was leaving by some 'friends' of hers, songwriters who didn't want any other writer getting close to her. But I saw her one more time not long after, by chance, at a friend's house party. Lotta jammin' that night. Dusty remembered me and we sang some together, talked about getting together, but it was just before she hooked up with the Pet Shop Boys, when she got very popular and busy again. Too bad I didn't meet her a year or two earlier, but hey, them's the breaks. I have my memories of her to keep me warm, at least. :)

    Can't believe Wickham lumping in Nina Simone along side of the likes of Dusty, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, and Aretha as one of the greatest singers ever. Nina Simone isn't in the same category. The woman half the time sang out of key. Talk about over rated. Wickham right when she said Dusty's voice was brilliant. Dusty sang in various styles and genres as evidenced here.

      Ana Irene Martinez and you felt you just had to get that negative comment in, did you? None of us in this world are perfect, and many are drawn into a quagmire that they never expected. Dusty freely admitted her life had gone off the rails, in Los Angeles you’ll find more encouragement to do that than in any other city in the US. Dusty gave us the impression she was a fairly strong woman, that I’m afraid was an act for her fans. She was in fact a vulnerable soul often like the little girl lost. America, where her heart lay with her love of soul and black music in general, should have been the making of her, unfortunately she took the wrong path and her life spiralled out of control. It’s the easiest thing in the world to find yourself broke when you’re surrounded by hangers-on. She wasn’t working but accommodation and day to day living will soon eat up your assets in LALA land. To suggest she was broke though spending her money on drink and drugs is a nonsense, they certainly were a factor but not the impression you’ve chosen to submit. She bravely told her experiences warts and all and admire her for opening up to her fans and leaving them with no illusions and I commend her for that. Your attempt to denigrate her memory was rather churlish and totally uncalled for. SAD🥺

    • @anairenemartinez165
      @anairenemartinez165 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@coolvoice7 I said SAD and re afirm: SAD. SAD for Dusty. SAD for Judy. SAD for Whitney. SAD for Amy. Your long diatribe does nothing for people taking coke because of some life realities they can't cope with, and certainly did nothing for my convictions against drugs. You atempt to glorify and justify drug addiction did not work with me. Negative? I see, to tell the truth is negative.

    • @coolvoice7
      @coolvoice7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ana Irene Martinez like yourself I’m totally against drugs and would never excuse or glorify them in any way. If that’s the impression you got then let me set the record straight. Although you may not have had the intention of being negative, it came across that way to me. The other stars you mentioned were also led down the wrong road and make no mistake, they were led by unscrupulous assholes who could manipulate them when they were off their faces on drugs. It’s too easy to say “they could just say no” things are never that cut and dried. We all have vulnerabilities and some have much less strength and willpower to fully control their weaknesses. If I offended you I apologise unreservedly. We are obviously big fans of Dusty and as such should be falling out👍👍

      @@coolvoice7 well done fans, we saw the warts but still must admire the pure talent. I wonder what her biography would have been like if she had written it herself as an autobiography. Just fun to imagine what was really important enough to her to include in it.. I believe some of her stories and memories she would have included may have surprised us Sadly we shall never know.

    • @coolvoice7
      @coolvoice7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cyyoung9175 there’s a biopic of her life being made but I dare say it’s been shelved because of Covid. I do hope they tell her whole life’s truths and try not to glamorise it too much. I’d be happy to see them start with her late childhood using a younger actress then take it from there to the height of her fame, her lonely years in the USA and her comeback that was cut so short with the cancer. She’d had it before and had gone through the horrors of chemo and radiotherapy. She got the all clear only for this bastard of a disease to return and take her life. I’m hoping it’s not too long till it’s released and one thing I’m praying for is whoever plays her lip syncs her songs, no one I can think of can replicate that voice👍
