Update: I did it! Took in a pair of size10 jeans to a size 8 using this method. I had to take off more further down the leg as they were too big on my hips and thighs too but with a bit of tweaking they fit great. You can’t even tell I altered them. So chuffed. I couldn’ have done it without your excellent demonstration. Thank you 🤗
When people ask me to just "quickly take these pants in" for them, I'll send them this video. It's a very helpful video! But most people think you just sew some darts in maybe? To make clothing fit you perfectly, it takes more work than most people expect.
Thank you so much! My teen daughter is very pear shaped (I'm not) so I had absolutely no idea of how to fix her pants. This is the BEST method and tutorial I've seen.
I'm gonna have to try this! I'm a pear too, S-sized in the waist and L-sized in the hips so 95% of store bought jeans fit awkwardly. I did take in jeans before but it looked bulky and only got rid of a few centimeters. This looks very clean, hopefully it'll work for me, thank you very much! (Side note though why do most brands just not make pants for this body type lol.)
That little bit of elastic seems great to have your jeans fit your waist WHILST being able to expand/contract when you sit or have a big dinner 🤣 wish all jeans were made like that
Thank you for the tutorial. I have the same pb. But after a, while I simplifief the procedure to one single step: tightening from the back side by sewing inside the excess width. It's not perfect but it really does work
@@ChilloutMusicFan put your pants on inside out, grab the excess fabric in the back, as tight as you want it and fixate it with pins(all the way down to your bum). take off the pants, put as many pins as u need and then just sew along the pins. cut of the excess and sew zigzag. e voila
This is the best tutorial I’ve seen so far. I really don’t like the look of just chopping through the waistband and sewing it back together. It’s too bulky. Taking a little more time on it makes all the difference.
Problem for me with this method is that I have HIGH hips! I simply cut 2 small holes around 4 inches from each side of the front fly on the inside of the waistband and insert elastic, then secure it so that waistband fits snug.
@@krisdiane I literally have 2 1/2" between the bottom of my ribs and the top of my hips,.... and the bone structure my pevic girdle is large in comparison to the rest of my frame. It makes alterations very challenging.
@@JoMomma my rib to hip distance about three of my bony fingers wide. 🤦♀️ My hips are also a large portion of my body. I'm five two with thirty six inches from floor to hip and a twenty eight inch inseam. When I find jeans that fit well I am STOKED.
Thank you so much, I'm skinny af,then I have this big butt and thin waist and just can't find pants, so I wear yoga pants all the time..now I can wear my pants just hanging in my closet. This is so cool, thank you so much 🙏 ❤
Instead of elastic, another method is to just use the existing center seam on the waistband and take that in the extra inch or two. It'll look way more natural.
I cut open the waist band from the inside and sew a length of strong elastic on the inside. It takes 10 mins and if you don't mind the back being scrunched up a bit like there is an elastic in there it works super well
Too much work for me. I'm not a seamstress, but I have to take in my clothes alot. I have done a pretty good job of it over the years, but when it comes to the course denim, I can't see me going through all of this. Any other fabric and I'm game. This is great work, but I'll pass on the denims.
Go to your local thrift store and pick up a pair on sale for cheap. Then tear them apart and experiment! Even if they aren't in your size it would be good practice
Perfect job I really like the colour of those jeans haven't seen that colour for a long time in Australia. Been looking for someone that can make a jacket bigger and saw you're tutorial about jeans I have to do this all the time but the other way around because I have a big stomach I always put the belt loops on to the top of the cut parts to hide the cut. your filming is amazing really easy to see
Although not as noticeable here, the placement of the pockets changed. I think in other pairs of pants, it might be more noticeable and you would have to remove them and center them once more
Thank you for this!! Im going to try it out hopefully soon. I have a hugeeeee problem with buying jeans... Im not pear shaped really, I dont have a ton of hips or anything, I have more of an athletic shaped body, subtle curve from waist to hip... But as my mother always used to say, I have a "bubble butt". Wouldn't guess it if I was facing you straight on, but when I turn to the side its a big difference. I typically wear a size 3 in jeans but not only does the waist nevER fit right, I also get bagging right under my butt in the upper leg part of the jeans. I have no clue how to fix it. My butt doesn't gradually blend into my thigh, theres sort of a shelf and my legs are not in proportion with my butt at all. I have a small frame everywhere else besides my butt. If the entire leg of the jeans isn't too big, its just the upper thigh/part right under the butt of the jeans. I wish there was a tailoring class near me lol
You have the exact same body type like me! Finally someone describe it well of my ‘problem’ on finding a pant that fit well. Straight hip/body from the front, skinny bone small chest. But turn to the side, the butt is rounding and popping like a bubble! 😄
Could you in theory take in the back centre seam same as sides aswell?. Or is the back seam harder to get looking smooth? Youd want it to be smooth or it would look awfull. I have a big butt at back, not so much at the sides. Great video thanx. I like how you cut the waistband closer to the back too.
Most likely, the reason she is doing elastic is that if she took in the back waist to fit as well, she wouldn't be able to get it over her hips, even with the zipper fully open. A truly fitted pair of jeans/pants/trousers would need a side zipper or possible two depending on the difference between waist and hip measurements.
Dear friends, thank you for watching. I hope now your jeans fit you better than ever before. The most common questions: 1. Do I make it with both sides? - Yes, both sides. 2.
