The original version of Broly may have not been the best written character, nor did he have the best motivation. But I always loved that Broly was meant to be the ACTUAL realization of the prophecy Vegeta constantly referenced back in the Namek Arc. Broly IS that one Saiyan born every 10000 years or whatever it is. Hes quite literally just built different. Which is why its so hilarious for Paragus to hit Vegeta with his own "you arent dealing with the AVERAGE Saiyan Warrior" monologue he frustrated Frieza with so many times Quick side note: Broly saying his power is maximum is a reference to a famous meme of a paper submitted by an elementary schooler where you draw somebody you look up to, and the student had a cute crude drawing of Broly with the explanation "Broly because his power is maximum" Kind of became an endearing meme in the community
TFS sort of cheapened his dialogue. the original broly was fully cognizant, and his trauma isn't just goku crying but that crying also being associated with the day he and his father got pretty much executed and the planet exploding . definitely could have ended better though
Saiyan psychology kind of indicates that high powered individuals would be expected to have a lot of children. I wouldn't be surprised if Vegeta didn't know all about it from a very young age. His refusal to have any significant number of children to advance his species is just him being a selfish jerk.
Mercenary Tao is an original Dragon Ball villain that nearly 86ed Goku. Goku blew him up with his own grenade, which is why he's a cyborg, screaming at the sight of Goku 😅
Some helpful context. Broly is like an overflowing balloon of Ki. You fill it too much and it pops. Usually this is solved by Broly just ... being Broly. Use the energy in rampages and big blasts and he's okay. I *believe* the reason why Goku literally did one punch Broly is because he punched him in the one spot where he was stabbed as a baby. The one weak spot in the overflowing water balloon of ki. When it cracked open his ki came bursting out and Broly blew up. Also, the slap fighting sounds part of this is by far the funniest. I cry every time.
It's nice of TFS to teach people the importance of a safe word! You ALWAYS have to remember your safe word in case the legendary super Saiyan comes to blow up your planet.
Contrary to popular belief, broly doesnt actually say kakarots name repeatedly in the original. At least not in base and legendary forms. He has full sentence dialogs. One of my favorite characters in the whole series.
Quick little note for you, Lauren, regarding the details of Broly's birth... 10,000 was considered to be unbelievably obnoxious for a Saiyan infant. Nappa was the commander of the Saiyan army and his average power level was anywhere between 4,000 and 5,000 depending on your source material. Vegeta, being the prince, was 18,000 when he fought Goku on Earth. Fast forward to adulthood and Broly would have CLAPPED Freeza (Frieza in the Funimation dub) without even breaking a sweat, while Goku only edged him out by a little bit. It's rumored that Broly in this movie is even more powerful than Cell.

And in the Cell games Gohan and Goku were able to hold their own against Cell for some time as Super Saiyans and together they would probably put up a better fight against Cell than against Broly.

Piccolo shows up when Gohan calls. Well, Piccolo did use to be the devil, being Kami's evil half and all ... The way I imagine Piccolo got that ship... he noticed all the powers leaving the planet, including Gohan's, and went to Bulma to get one. Though I'm sure, if that were the explanation, the abridged version would involve him coming to the reception late because he doesn't eat and is antisocial, but Kami bugged him into bringing some gift he'd been saving since before he merged with Piccolo or something.
Broccoli, the safe word is broccoli! In case you didn't notice, all the saiyens are named after vegetables. kakarot = carrot. Riditz = Raddish. Nappa = a type of cabbage. So Broly = Broccoli.
And Paragus (Brolys father) equals Asparagus. Bardock is a part in burdock root. Turles is a play in on truffles i believe, Then in super you get Cabba (cabbage), Kale (obvious), and Caulifla (cauliflower) and I think granola? Then there's Tarble, Vegetas brother who is the only one whose name isn't a direct vegetable but paired with his brother vegeta, the names combine to vegetable.
I’ve watched this abridged movie an obscene number of times, and I only just noticed that Vegeta mutters “So cool…” as he passes out from Broly’s attack. Listen closely at 37:57!
Eyyy, I got the shout-out! Thank you kindly for that. If I may make a request/suggestion, it might be worth watching episodes 57-59 all in one shot. Make it a warm-up to then watch all three parts of episode 60 in one shot. Even if you only do that for episode 60, trust me; it's absolutely worth doing those videos without making yourself wait between them. The finale is just that perfect. I don't remember exactly how the meme went, but around when TFS were scripting this movie something had started making the rounds online from an old Superman thing. It said something like, "When no one was looking, Lex Luthor stole forty cakes. That's four tens. And that's terrible." My favorite moment in this whole film is how Goku fully acknowledged the weakest enemy he ever faced is the deserving of the title "monster". Emperor Pilaf !
When you get a chance you should check out the actual movie or at least clips of him, he's an actual savage monster, especially when he transforms with pantera playing in the background. Hell even the part when he kills his father was actually brutal in the movie.

I always just assumed it was because he was never officially coronated as king, so feels he isn't deserving of the title. I guess it's just my head canon though. lol
I always treated it as "The Saiyans are basically extinct. What's the point of being the king of nothing?" but also refusing to not acknowledge himself as "Prince" because it would disrespect both himself and his bloodline to not at least remind people he is royalty, even if there's nobody left to rule.

That's actually Broly's backstory. He and Goku were born at close enough times to be in the same maternity wars, and Goku cried for a long time. This somehow bothered Broly enough that it broke his sanity. Vegeta's reaction to Broly's story is the division between the fans. He's so cool! But his story is *so* dumb! But he's *so god damn cool!* But he's so *god damned dumb!* I kind of feel like Paragus (Broly's dad) had his speech prepared for when Vegeta found out. When the masochist aliens blew Paragus's cover, he decided "time to bust out that speech I've been preparing for the past few months". One of the best moments was when Paragus hit Vegeta with "You see, prince; you're not *dealing* with the average Saiyan warrior". Vegeta's defeated "Noooo..." was because he used that exact line on Frieza *three times* on Namek. I can imagine Frieza in hell suddenly cackling, and he doesn't know why. He just feels as though revenge has been served on his behalf. 🎵Broly, Broly, 🥦! Why are you so biiiig?! Take that crown off of your head, and use it as a 🐓 riiiing!🎵 I love the whole Broly song (The Broly Chronicles Part One (there is no part two)).
Somebody has probably said this by now, but the Kais referenced here have nothing to do with the Kai Abridged videos. King Kai is one of four Kais who each watch over their own designated quadrant of the galaxy, divided between the four cardinal directions. To understand that though, you would've had to have some knowledge of the original show, since in the original show that information isn't elaborated until after the Cell Games. The Kai videos are Abridged versions of the Abridged seasons, being a play on how Dragon Ball Z Kai was an anime series that was shorted from the original series by cutting out most of the filler.
TFS put so much work into this movie especially because Broly is a fan favorite character. Love this and the last few episodes for the attention to detail between music choices and subtle references to every dub known to man kind, including itself. Seems like you may have missed one of my favorite jokes in this whole movie, 'you aren't dealing with the average Saiyan warrior anymore", call back to the exact line Vegeta said to Freeza over and over. The last joke about divorce is a callback to original Dragon Ball, Goku thought marriage was a type of food.

DBZA Vegeta is my favourite Vegeta. Don't get me wrong Chis Sabat is great as the official Funamation dub, but Nick "Lanipator" Landis is just hilarious. Like Sabat Lani voices both Vegeta and Piccolo.
P.S most people don't get the Goku is technically a prince too. Chi-Chi's dad is the Ox King making her a princess and by marriage Goku a Prince Consort.
Lani's vegeta is so good Chris Sabat himself said he want Lani to be the new Vegeta when he's gone. I also like Masako's Goku way more than Sean (which I don't like for being too diva)
I know i'm way late here, but in the original version, that tiara broly was wearing was a mind control device. Paragus had enslaved him as a living weapon, and when he sensed a strong opponent in Goku he was able to power up and break free of the mind control. This is also why he singles out Paragus to kill later on, as revenge for enslaving him. Please note that Broly being enslaved is the BETTER option because before that he was basically Majin Buu, just an engine of wanton destruction if left to his own devices.
Fun fact: the guys from TFS actually hated the original dbz broly movie due to broly's dumb backstory. Also, the fact that some TFS fans that were inconsiderate enough to incessantly request to hasten the progress of making this parody movie to the point of annoying the TFS guys also didnt help to douse their hateful fire for the movie. This is evident at certain lines in this movie especially at 35:09 and it couldnt get any clearer at 39:22.
And the seco d after he punch goku so hard the sharpnel you see near vegeta raise from that shock. In term of pure fanboyism, broly had a love of effect that made him very popular.
3:41: No. Kais are basically the overseers of the four galaxies. Starting in the late 00's there was Dragon Ball Kai, which was run of DBZ with filler cut out, some wide screen adjustments (I think) and replacing some soundtrack due to plagarism claims. TFS made DBZ Abridged Kai as a joke, which is an even faster retelling of the story. 7:31 No, he loves to call himself a prince, despite the fact he's been the king for decades. 11:34 And there's honestly a lot of things that says he can. Filler here and there showing Vegeta and even him just out in the vacuum of space, but especially the Bardock movie where he had his big final scene out in space. Toriyama liked that one so much he drew two shots from that scen in the manga, and by the rule of "it was in the manga", that would make it canon. Plus, there's stuff with Beerus later.
I like to think he still goes by Prince due to his honor. I mean yes he's the sayian heir and king by default but he was never coronated so by standing on tradition he's still just prince. Plus it might also be his way to honor his people, refusing the title because he feels he didn't earn it. Also that's only three sayians and four half sayians (and one quarter sayian) in existence. And we all know that none of them are going to take orders from a king or vegeta lol
after over 20 years since this movie released, Broly is still one of the top popular dragonball characters that he is always in dragonball video games.
The King Kai we know watches over the East Galaxy in this universe, which is where the events of DB take place. The other Kais watch over the other Galaxies, which makes sense given King Kai (East Kai) had shown he needs to pinpoint something with his antenna to actually see it rather than being omnipresent. The other Kais are more like co-workers lightening the load of each other by only watching over different segments of the universe. As a side note I think it’s neat you see both Gohan and Trunks using the “Masenko” attack, which was taught to Gohan by Piccolo and to Trunks by Future Gohan. Piccolo would naturally outlive all the other characters, but it shows his legacy remains even if he’s gone.
If the name Turles didn't ring a bell I guess you never watched the Christmas Tree of Might special? It was one of, if not the first movie TFS did so it's kind of got that S1 rough-around-the-edges vibe, but it could always be worth saving that too for December? Which it sounds like you want to do with Plan to Eradicate Christmas. Would be interesting to see the contrast between one of the earliest things they did and one of the latest. And also: The reason Broly crushed his dad's pod was because part of Paragus' scheme was to have Broly perish along with New Vegeta and everyone else. He was afraid of Broly's power and so had only prepped "a pod meant for one person" as his exit strategy. It was made clearer in the original movie.

The kai episodes aren't about the Kais, it's DBZA's version of DBZ Kai, which was the official trimmed down (had the filler removed), which was announced and released after TFS started releasing DBZA.
I feel like I should clarify that in the original dbz version broly was triggered by the word Kakarot because he heard his crying at the same time he was stabbed, so hearing the name Kakarot basically gave him PTSD to when he was stabbed as a baby It's a big misconception that he was triggered from just the crying

The funny thing about that crying baby rant is that I totally agree and feel the same, but I also totally get the other side. Those parents have to deal with the baby crying most of the time that it's not sleeping, EVERY DAY. If anything, they gotta be feeling at least a bit happy that it is now bothering other people for a change, just out of spite. Like "Yeah, see what we have to deal with all the damn time? FEEL BUT A FRACTION OF OUR SUFFERING!"
People gotta understand these movies were released nearly back to back in the early 90's. Like there would be another non canon “movie” every other sunday. So the writing wasn't all that thought out most of the time. Also folks didn't care much for continuity back in the day. Since Super a lot has changed, including Broly who has, in my opinion, a much better character now and even written into the manga with his “Legendary” being truly terrifying as it probably outmatches the likes of Goku, Vegeta and Gohan knowing what transformations they've gone through. (And giving them more reason to improve)

@@alicepbg2042 they are right thou as in the original film it was purely down to Broly being driven insane by Goku's crying as Saiyans cant naturally sense energy or power levels which is why they wore scouters and Vegeta only learns that it was even possible during his attack on Earth plus if it was down to him feeling Goku's power he would have known who Goku was the moment he appeared and would have gone into a rage when he got on the planet or would have headed to right to Earth after destroying the South Galaxy. As if he could sense him in the vast distance that is between galaxies then he would have been able to pin his location while in the same galaxy

The movies for abridged exist in a pretty vague aspect of the time line. I like to think of the movies as exactly that. Movies, sold to nappa by Krillin. Everything that happens is technically canon to the time line. But anything that doesn't add up is either Krillin not remembering right, or making some stuff up. Edit: Also in the lore, Broly is THE legendary super Sayian. The one actually foretold about. Which technically makes his super Sayian a unique variation. Goku earned the legend, Broly was born the legend.
As a child I always had this headcanon that Broly was stabbed while Kakarot was crying and he saw his hair, so the trigger was actually his look because Broly was traumatized by it. Thats why, in my head, in the second movie he was destroying Gohan (who has Goku's face) and Goten (who Is a little Goku). Also he met future Trunks so little Trunks got f-ed aswell. The reason he called him "Kakarot" could've been because that's how Vegeta and Paragus called him and Broly just learned that.... Normal Broly kinda loved his father, he was a sad and calm kid until the snap, then he was no longer in control (and destroyed Paragus' eye)
Vegeta is actually Vegeta the 4th. Presumably the planet is named after Vegeta the 1st. Vegeta’s father was Vegeta the 3rd, obviously. Nothing is currently known of Vegeta the 2nd and 3rd.
Just FYI, all DBZ movies in general and by extension the Abridged ones, all are taking place in an alternate timeline. So yes this takes place during the Cell Saga, but not part of the main story. But they are fun to watch all the same.

Idk if you've ever been jumped before, but the reason the sounds they used while it was 4 on 1 were hilarious is because that's exactly what gang melee violence sounds like. I've been jumped and it was so pathetic and ridiculous sounding I couldn't stop laughing. One of them took off their flipflop and started hitting me with it. I don't think I got one bruise lmao. I regularly got beaten to within an inch of my life at home though, so I might have just been used to pain lol. Elementary school was great.

I don't remember exactly how the meme went, but around when TFS were scripting this movie something had started making the rounds online from an old Superman thing. That's actually Broly's backstory. He and Goku were born at close enough times to be in the same maternity wars, and Goku cried for a long time. This somehow bothered Broly enough that it broke his sanity.
Vegeta's reaction to Broly's story is the division between the fans. He's so cool! But his story is *so* dumb! But he's *so god damn cool!* But he's so *god damned dumb!*
I kind of feel like Paragus (Broly's dad) had his speech prepared for when Vegeta found out. When the masochist aliens blew Paragus's cover, he decided "time to bust out that speech I've been preparing for the past few months".
One of the best moments was when Paragus hit Vegeta with "You see, prince; you're not *dealing* with the average Saiyan warrior". Vegeta's defeated "Noooo..." was because he used that exact line on Frieza *three times* on Namek. I can imagine Frieza in hell suddenly cackling, and he doesn't know why. He just feels as though revenge has been served on his behalf.

Somebody has probably said this by now, but the Kais referenced here have nothing to do with the Kai Abridged videos.
King Kai is one of four Kais who each watch over their own designated quadrant of the galaxy, divided between the four cardinal directions. To understand that though, you would've had to have some knowledge of the original show, since in the original show that information isn't elaborated until after the Cell Games.
The Kai videos are Abridged versions of the Abridged seasons, being a play on how Dragon Ball Z Kai was an anime series that was shorted from the original series by cutting out most of the filler.
TFS put so much work into this movie especially because Broly is a fan favorite character. Love this and the last few episodes for the attention to detail between music choices and subtle references to every dub known to man kind, including itself. Seems like you may have missed one of my favorite jokes in this whole movie, 'you aren't dealing with the average Saiyan warrior anymore", call back to the exact line Vegeta said to Freeza over and over. The last joke about divorce is a callback to original Dragon Ball, Goku thought marriage was a type of food.

I know i'm way late here, but in the original version, that tiara broly was wearing was a mind control device. Paragus had enslaved him as a living weapon, and when he sensed a strong opponent in Goku he was able to power up and break free of the mind control. This is also why he singles out Paragus to kill later on, as revenge for enslaving him.
Please note that Broly being enslaved is the BETTER option because before that he was basically Majin Buu, just an engine of wanton destruction if left to his own devices.

In the original movie, Broly tanks a full power Kamehameha from Goku, then grabs him before the uppercut. It’s a pretty cool scene
And the seco d after he punch goku so hard the sharpnel you see near vegeta raise from that shock. In term of pure fanboyism, broly had a love of effect that made him very popular.

Starting in the late 00's there was Dragon Ball Kai, which was run of DBZ with filler cut out, some wide screen adjustments (I think) and replacing some soundtrack due to plagarism claims. TFS made DBZ Abridged Kai as a joke, which is an even faster retelling of the story.

I like to think he still goes by Prince due to his honor. I mean yes he's the sayian heir and king by default but he was never coronated so by standing on tradition he's still just prince. Plus it might also be his way to honor his people, refusing the title because he feels he didn't earn it.
Also that's only three sayians and four half sayians (and one quarter sayian) in existence. And we all know that none of them are going to take orders from a king or vegeta lol
after over 20 years since this movie released, Broly is still one of the top popular dragonball characters that he is always in dragonball video games.
The King Kai we know watches over the East Galaxy in this universe, which is where the events of DB take place. The other Kais watch over the other Galaxies, which makes sense given King Kai (East Kai) had shown he needs to pinpoint something with his antenna to actually see it rather than being omnipresent. The other Kais are more like co-workers lightening the load of each other by only watching over different segments of the universe.
As a side note I think it’s neat you see both Gohan and Trunks using the “Masenko” attack, which was taught to Gohan by Piccolo and to Trunks by Future Gohan. Piccolo would naturally outlive all the other characters, but it shows his legacy remains even if he’s gone.

It was one of, if not the first movie TFS did so it's kind of got that S1 rough-around-the-edges vibe, but it could always be worth saving that too for December? Which it sounds like you want to do with Plan to Eradicate Christmas. Would be interesting to see the contrast between one of the earliest things they did and one of the latest.
And also: The reason Broly crushed his dad's pod was because part of Paragus' scheme was to have Broly perish along with New Vegeta and everyone else. He was afraid of Broly's power and so had only prepped "a pod meant for one person" as his exit strategy. It was made clearer in the original movie.

The kai episodes aren't about the Kais, it's DBZA's version of DBZ Kai, which was the official trimmed down (had the filler removed), which was announced and released after TFS started releasing DBZA.
I feel like I should clarify that in the original dbz version broly was triggered by the word Kakarot because he heard his crying at the same time he was stabbed, so hearing the name Kakarot basically gave him PTSD to when he was stabbed as a baby

I think when Vegeta was talking about trunks and his bloodline the joke was that Vegeta refused to acknowledge that Trunks is not a girl because it annoys Trunks.

The funny thing about that crying baby rant is that I totally agree and feel the same, but I also totally get the other side. Those parents have to deal with the baby crying most of the time that it's not sleeping, EVERY DAY. People gotta understand these movies were released nearly back to back in the early 90's.
Like there would be another non canon “movie” every other sunday. So the writing wasn't all that thought out most of the time. Also folks didn't care much for continuity back in the day. Since Super a lot has changed, including Broly who has, in my opinion, a much better character now and even written into the manga with his “Legendary” being truly terrifying as it probably outmatches the likes of Goku, Vegeta and Gohan knowing what transformations they've gone through. (And giving them more reason to improve)

@@alicepbg2042 they are right thou as in the original film it was purely down to Broly being driven insane by Goku's crying as Saiyans cant naturally sense energy or power levels which is why they wore scouters and Vegeta only learns that it was even possible during his attack on Earth plus if it was down to him feeling Goku's power he would have known who Goku was the moment he appeared and would have gone into a rage when he got on the planet or would have headed to right to Earth after destroying the South Galaxy. As if he could sense him in the vast distance that is between galaxies then he would have been able to pin his location while in the same galaxy

The movies for abridged exist in a pretty vague aspect of the time line.
I like to think of the movies as exactly that. Movies, sold to nappa by Krillin. Everything that happens is technically canon to the time line.
But anything that doesn't add up is either Krillin not remembering right, or making some stuff up.
Edit: Also in the lore, Broly is THE legendary super Sayian. The one actually foretold about. Which technically makes his super Sayian a unique variation. Goku earned the legend, Broly was born the legend.
As a child I always had this headcanon that Broly was stabbed while Kakarot was crying and he saw his hair, so the trigger was actually his look because Broly was traumatized by it. Thats why, in my head, in the second movie he was destroying Gohan (who has Goku's face) and Goten (who Is a little Goku). Also he met future Trunks so little Trunks got f-ed aswell.
The reason he called him "Kakarot" could've been because that's how Vegeta and Paragus called him and Broly just learned that....
Normal Broly kinda loved his father, he was a sad and calm kid until the snap, then he was no longer in control (and destroyed Paragus' eye)
Vegeta is actually Vegeta the 4th. Presumably the planet is named after Vegeta the 1st. Vegeta’s father was Vegeta the 3rd, obviously. Nothing is currently known of Vegeta the 2nd and 3rd.

Just FYI, all DBZ movies in general and by extension the Abridged ones, all are taking place in an alternate timeline. So yes this takes place during the Cell Saga, but not part of the main story. But they are fun to watch all the same.
