  • While working to further one's knowledge of industry expertise, tech literature, books, podcasts, and yes TH-cam videos come to mind as great sources of information. I am a believer that we can only continue to expand our knowledge and grow is through continuous learning.
This belief led me to finding Joel's TH-cam channel Testing Tech Tips ( / @testingtechtips )
Joel has a keen ability to make complex testing and literature digestible for folks such as myself who aren't in the field doing the work daily.
This conversation was a blast and takes us through Joel's career and we discuss many power industry related happenings as well!

The ancient tech in me isn't up to date with relay lexicon. Anything that isn't electro mechanical I refer to as solid state. Thanks for the clarification and documents discussing the relay generations. I am referring to microprocessor or digital relays! Thanks Alfonso!!

How hard is it to go from being a electrician to being a electrical testing tech.

I did it on 2019. I had about 25 years in construction the last 23 1/2 with one company. I finally had enough with all the BS. I had no room for advancement really wasn’t making crap. I quit and I say switched to careers. Best thing I could have did. I went from making $90k a year to over $200k. I do have to say the hours can suck and it does get slow in January and February but pretty much after that it’s 6 to 7 days a week. Money is great and it’s a lot easier on my body. Some days are long and some days are short. It can be a lot of travel but you are compensated for it.
I work with some guys that make over $300k a year
