I’ve played a lot of guitars myself during the years and mostly play PRS higher end models these days but I have to say that the Midtown Custom might be one of the best guitars I’ve played.
To me it just sits perfect in hand and plays like butter, you barely have to press the frets in order to get the tone etc. And the sound is just magical, love the humbuckers and the versatility of this guitar is just outstanding from jazz to fuzzy blues rock and even some metal.
But yeah, most things in life are down to preference etc.

I have the Custom. No issues. Lighter than a typical Les Paul, and all the tone. It’s a keeper.

The QC was really hit and miss during this time. Some are flawless and some are just awful, most are in the middle. I think your point on seeing it before buying is spot on. For folks looking on Reverb, be sure to ask for pictures of the finish around the F holes, of the binding, and at neck and timber joins -- these seem to be the two main areas that QC suffered on the Midtown Customs.
Also, love the idea for the series! Can't wait to see more!

I think you're exactly right, someone else watched this and sent me some high res pics of their midtown standard with a bigsby from the same time, it was perfect.
Thanks for the love man, I've owned enough of these damn things I can get at least 2 years worth of material haha

I bought mine new years ago and it is flawless. They're going for over $2K now - used.

Yeah its outrageous. I saw one this morning list for 2200 and laughed to myself.
It is a pretty cool guitar its crazy they doubled since the start of the shut down, I was watching them sell for under a grand and considered gambling becuase of how good looking it was hoping to get one with better QC. I should have!

I got to play another one of these about 3 months ago, it was definitely better than the one I had and I really did still love the way it looked and felt.

I have a Midtown Custom... great guitars... flawless and well made... not sure about your comments on finish??? ...as this is my go to guitar.

the quality control on this specific one was terrible, and I'm not the only one to have that experience with Midtowns. This was not one of GIbsons better years for consistency and it shows. That's awesome you got lucky with yours not having obvious QC issues, I still think this is one of the better looking Gibsons they've made in the last decade.

I have two on my local Craigslist: a Standard one for $1,400, but repaired from damage from broken headstock. However, it plays pretty nice, and sounds amazing. Another one, a Custom, in nice shape - $1,800. What do you think?

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I can only tell you my own opinion, but I think both are very overpriced for what they are however that being said if you really like one of them after sitting and playing with it then by all means you gotta do what makes you happy. $1400 for a standard with a broken headstock is just wild to me.

1099? Wow. There’s a guy who wants to trade me his standard and he has it priced at 1800. The guitar he wants is one that’s 2300 new , Fender 50s limited edition. So if you got the higher model for 1100- then I’m like - nooooo way haha

    • @AudiomoMusic

These things flew in value, i would never pay over a grand for another one. Not a bad guitar but nowhere near worth that pricing

Haha no joke I just bought the demo version on Reverb form Gibson’s demo page. Hopefully it’s solid. I’m a die hard double cut guy and thought this would bridge the gap between the SG and the LP. I appreciate the honesty!

It sounds like it's the perfect guitar for you if that's what you're going after. Hopefully you get one of the better ones with QC although all of the ones I've heard have sounded great regardless! Congrats!

They are quite different from an ES model though - they are just thinlines with chambered bodies. Totally differenet construction to a 335
