Anybody can have an altar. Spirituality is not gender specific. A woman can be called. The only thing is, in Igbo spirituality a woman's call can be limited because of menstruation. However, any woman above menstruation can do anything a man can do. Meanwhile, an altar is a private thing. Married Igbo women of old use to come with their own family Ogwugwu, which forms the base of their personal altar, to their husband's house. However, a woman still under her father's roof cannot have a personal altar. Even a son living with his father cannot have a personal altar.
