    As easy as that soffit job looked, it's still tough work with such limited access. I would have had to tape Pete to an extension pole and shoved him up in there. I can hear him now... AAAaaaa these nails are scraping my back!!

      @JeffHorchoff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Still, you got to love being able to do a cut out lying down and not having the hive directly above you. I almost took a nap up there. Poor Pete! God's peace brother.

    I think the reason why they stay in the basket as opposed to the plastic bucket is because they have ventilation issues with the plastic bucket. They can breathe through the basket better.

      And it's got some grip, feels like a safe place. Genius idea. Home Depot has them for $15.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I tend to agree with that. As the basket is breathable, the bees are less confused when put inside of it. Whatever the reason why, I'm really glad it works that way. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.

      @@JeffHorchoff I’m thinking that maybe it would work better for the bees if they were to come out with a bee vac with this kinda basket instead of the bucket. I’m sure when you have a large hive you need to get out of a house that it would work best for the bees to have more ventilation and not be stacked on top of each other.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      As the bees cap the honey cells there is no need for worrying about contamination of any sort. However, if the comb is dropped, it can easily pick up the insulation and would be contaminated at that point. Thank you for your blessings, support, and kindness toward me Annette. God's peace.

    I really got into the bee stuff after my Boston baby got attacked by some other dogs and they ate her back feet up. I thought for sure I was going to have to have her put to sleep due to the damage, I didn't think they would be able to save her back legs. But the vet had me bring her in every 2/3 days they would take her old bandages off and do this thing called sugar /wet treatment. And it was Honey they were using on her legs. They were able to save one, now I keep raw uncut honey around. Sure enough a week ago she scrapped up her one good back leg and irritated her old scar so I put that honey on it, wrapped it up within like 4 days she was running around like nothing was wrong. I knew honey was good for you and has healing stuff in it, but never knew it was good for wounds .. ❤❤❤

    Hello Jeff. The wife and I really enjoy your videos! Keep them coming. You were concerned about the insulation and you wanted to find the queen so maybe use a white sheet next time. Lay the sheet out flat then set the hive on the edge of the sheet with the entrance facing where the bees will be. Spray the bees with a little sugar water in the vacuum to discourage them from flying then carefully dump them on the sheet. Most won't fly so you would be able to find the queen plus most of the insulation would be left in the vac and what little was on the bees they would clean off of themselves. Put the caged queen in the hive and before long the rest will join her. Even if you don't see the queen at first you should spot her during the march into the hive.

    If my thought is flawed, just ignore it.
    But you use the rendering kettle and end up with the mass of dried dross. Why not do that work wet?
    You strain off the wax into the bucket. Maybe then you put a few gallons of fresh cold water in the kettle and start warming it. Pull the screen and rinse it out in the water. Melt the wax off the strainer, etc.
    Turn the kettle off and drain the kettle into a bucket via the wide open tap. Run a hose into the kettle and rinse out the last of the dross.
    Give it to the chickens fresh and wet. And maybe any dregs of wax the bees will rob?
    I am probably missing many reasons to undercut my thinking. But I can't get passed the notion of that the garbage wants to float. Why not exploit that feature?

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The garbage does float, but all the dirt sinks to the bottom. I have worked for years trying to streamline the rendering process, and for now, I am very happy with the process of separating the wax from the trash and leaving mostly trash behind. Still, I appreciate you sharing your ideas for my consideration. Thank you for that and for watching. God's peace Barbe.
