10 months later, it’s kinda amazed me how mark’s “cannon” in his channel has gone from him, a silly goof character, and an edgy anti persona to a story about a bunch of broken people. Wilford snapped, Damien is a creature of vengeance, and Mark is someone who can’t fail himself so he sees himself as perfect and the center.

Not even remotely true though. Been playing a lot of medieval choose your own adventures lately, and the villains are the ones least noticed. And the hero is the one with the most enemies because a true hero shows their face. Let's ignore super heroes in that. They're kinda their own category anyway.
I adore how the cannon follow up for “DAMIEN” is just Wilford showing up and being like “Let’s make a f*cking T.V. show!” and Damien is just like “Yeah, sure. Why not?”

just thought of this: in a date with Markiplier, on darkiplier's route he gives you more choices than mark does- Damien/Dark gives you more choices than he was ever given in life to lead you down the path that you feel is your own- but when looking at the videos there is only one choice to continue forward with the story, Dark is telling you what to choose, exactly like Damien. Damien was always told what to do- now he's telling others what to do within Dark, kinda like karma ig

2:14:34 I think I understand now...I think I get it. Or at least, part of it. Please excuse the long comment. Mark asks "who is the opposite of me?" He mentioned before that Dark was the opposite of him, but in what way? Narcissistic, manipulative, and selfish. We've seen Damien, and we know he is not those things. Celine is cutthroat, possibly manipulative, but for what reason? To protect Damien. Was it good? The best idea or method? Most likely, no. But she thinks about someone other than herself. Consider the actor. So wrapped up in himself, so self-absorbed, that he can't possibly imagine being wrong. Being "the bad guy." Everything is someone else's fault. He is incredibly selfish, only thinking of his own wants and desires. The actor is the true opposite of the Mark we know. Actor says he needs a villain and that Damien will be perfect for the role. Damien remarks to Celine, rather sarcastically, that Actor should be careful what he wishes for. So, given the choice, what does he do? He becomes the Actor's villain. "The true villain is the man with the most enemies." Actor made an enemy of Damien and Celine. What better villain could Damien immitate than the one who stole everything from him? "Darkiplier" is a character. A facade. A role. Damien is playing "Actor Markiplier." The best villain he knows. Okay, ramble over. Thanks for your time, carry on scrolling.
I liked this comment, and it’s been forever, but I just want to say this is an amazing summarization. And I love the idea that Damien is playing the Actor.
You had it in the beginning, then you blew it, Mark was being really clear and you overanalyzed exactly like Mark didn't want you to do, the Actor IS Darkiplier, Damien is Damien.
When the chat was going wild about the "Split personality" shtick. Like guys calm yourselves, it's a not a multi personality thing. He's just doing what all of us creative writers do, make characters that are exaggerated parts of our whole personality. It's NOT THAT DEEP!
Sorry I'm late to the conversation. Actually, some of the things Mark talks about really do feel like borderline multiple personalities. The way he sees them as all living inside an inner place in his head, moments when he just bursts out in their character and then reverts back after they've told their side of the story, even times he has mentioned aspects of his personality that he worked hard to better control, like his anger, are things that we see emerge from his characters. Also, giving these characters their own story and their own chance to be in the spotlight even the way he acts them out, it is very similar to how alternate personalities will 'front' within the same body. I do respect Mark's feelings and he obviously knows himself better than anyone, I just find these characters really fascinating and I think that they mean a lot to Mark.

I love Damien so mjch, because the ending is just a sudden "oh, shit" realization that clicks every piece together, since ADWM kicked this whole thing off: Darkiplier is not the villain.
My Nana used to always say something I don’t necessarily know if I agree with it 100% but I still stand by it somewhat “There are no heroes or villains There is no good and bad There is no right and wrong There are only choices And the consequences of those choices”
This may sound creepy but I once had a dream that I was back in elementary school and darkiplier was my teacher. He was really nice and sweet, I think this is just because I never thought he was bad and a good teacher on different perspectives.
The best part with this story and the way mark explains it is that no one is a liar, they just perceive things differently. It allows twists and turns without outrage.
43:16 huh, mark unintentionally set up the perfect motivation for Warfstache to become an interviewer, peeling back the layers behind each character to better understand the story he stumbles into

THE ENDING WITH WARFSTACHE COMING IN WOULD'VE BEEN THE GREATEST THING BUT ALSO WOULD'VE TOTALLY TAKEN AWAY THE DRAMATIC ATMOSPHERE -in the best way possible- *sorry for the caps I'm just really excited I can speak since it was members only*
I KNOW! I would've just kept it! Because as he proceeds to IMMEDIATELY explain, this whole series *IS* a shift from the dramatic and serious to not taking things to seriously. "From here on out everything's just fun"? Like... that could have been PART of the narrative! And if it were really after the credits, it wouldn't really spoil the mood that much -not to mention i really wanna see warfstache animated like this now-
"it goes "Who Killed Markiplier", "Wilford Warfstache", "Damien", "Markiplier TV"!" Oh my God I love that so much- XD Edit: I'm going to go watch them all in order after this now- x'D
@@mat-theseizuresquat2505 Heist must be after Wilford and DAMIEN because, well, Wilford and Darkiplier exist. Therefore, since Markiplier TV is basically back-to-back with DAMIEN, then Heist is probably after that one too. Date takes place sometime after Ending 6 of Heist, and I believe that’s the most recent point in the timeline. As for the *WAIA!* , it takes place some point after Wilford, but the exact place in the timeline is unknown. However, it is possible that he may have been listening during the interview and may have tried to come to terms with the game that started it all. In conclusion… - Actor Mark is messing around with weird wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff (Heist and Date), which will most likely lead to the events of Heist 2. - Darkiplier is more angry than usual (he’s pretty pissed off during Date), and may play a more active role in Heist 2 as a result. - Wilford is just being Wilford tbh, but he may be a little more comfortable with himself and the world around him, and the last time something like that happened, Damien’s purgatory broke down. So uhh, he may cause some stuff unwittingly in Heist 2? I dunno.
Every one of these explanation streams leaves me emotional in some way. I had a feeling your universe was some representation of your mind. I genuinely love that and all the work put into the series. You've definitely left your mark here on youtube and the internet. Its going to last potentially forever.
"Of course it's happening inside your head, Harry. But why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" I can really picture Warfstache saying that to someone. Warfstache is Psycho Dumbledore. New headcanon. ;P
No not exactly, marks best friend the colonel lied to him about sleeping with saleen. Mark was rightfully filled with anger and regret and sorrow not just for being lied to by his wife but also his best friend. So mark (presumably thinking about the horrible actions that transpired between the colonel and saleen) he decided that he could trust no one and no thing ever again. And so he didn’t trust anyone, to the extent that he killed them all for what they’d done to him, the pain and sorrow they left him with for their own gain. And I’m not saying he was right I’m just saying give the man a little more credit than just “he lose wife big sad”
"I spent god knows how long chopping down trees with only time on my side, and now suddenly there's no time!" How I feel about unus annus right now. 16 days left.
He actually said his influence for them was how he would in order to psych himself up/boost self esteem, he would have two characters in his head that would comment on his day like sports commentators. Likely he took that and they both turned out to be twins and thought it was funny and then decided there were so many Jim's.
I have a theory (well, more of a headcanon but we’ll go with it) that connects the events of WKM with Heist, Date, and eventually Heist 2: After betraying all of his friends and losing everything he has, Actor Mark is trying to find a new way of life. He wants to have fun, but he needs a companion. All of the people he knew, he hates, except for one - us. Also referred to as “Y/N”, “the audience”, “the viewer”, or “the district attorney”, we are the only person that Mark doesn’t have a personal vendetta against. So what does he do? He uses the knowledge he obtained from experimenting with the house to free us from our place in front of the mirror. With a companion, he now needs something to do. A way to have fun while still boosting his ever-increasing ego. So what does he do? He goes on riveting adventures with his new “friend”. We meet interesting people, break out of jails, get deserted on islands, try to survive the zombie apocalypse, meet aliens, and so on. But there’s still an issue; we know what Mark did. So in order to gain our trust, Mark pretends to be likable. He takes us to dinner, falls down a pit so we can save ourselves, cares for us when we get hurt, and even takes a laser to the chest when the scientist thinks we’re an anomaly. But it’s all a facade. We cannot be harmed in this world, and if we die, everything resets to a fixed point where we can try it all again. He even pretends to give us (very limited) “choices”, so it feels like we’re more free than we are. However, we can see his true self come through a few times, for example with the “Meta ending” in Date, or when he acts like a misogynist saying that he wants to go to the military base because there is a “trusting man”. In these intertwining stories, Mark is the hero of all of it. But, just like the Actor said, every good hero needs a villain. That’s where Darkiplier comes in. Whenever we meet, he is trying to tell us that what is happening is all just a game, and that we’re living in Mark’s made-up world. But Mark always tries to stop Dark in order to hide us from the truth. Think about it, has Dark ever tried to hurt us? He may seem evil because of his temper and composure, but are his motivations due to genuine malice, or just hatred towards Mark and a need to protect the viewer? But Dark isn’t the only person who found his way into Mark’s stories. Wilford is also a character who interacts with the viewer. But unlike Dark, he’s here for the fun of it. He enjoys Mark’s new take on life, and secretly wants to spend time with the viewer to make up for his mistakes in the past. This theory explains: -Why Y/N is no longer stuck in front of the mirror -Why Mark from Date/Heist seems nicer than the Actor -Why Darkiplier is portrayed as a villain -Why we see Warfstache in the choose-your-own-adventures -What Mark did after the events of Damien -How WKM links to Mark’s other projects TL;DR- Actor Mark saves us from the mirror so he can have a companion to go on adventures (Date/Heist) with. He pretends to be nicer as to gain our trust. He portrays Dark as the villain to 1.Make himself seem more heroic, and 2.Make us think that everything Dark says is a lie in order to manipulate us. It’s a little choppy, but I just felt like it was a nice way to link Mark’s dramatic projects with his more cheery ones.
My sister and I were also thinking about this, just today! The only recurring character we never see again from Who Killed Markiplier is Y/N, but that's because we're seeing through their eyes now. They're not stuck at the manor anymore. We thought that Y/N, now without a body, is more of an entity now than human, channelling the will of the Audience through them and the decisions made. Though there is still something of Y/N there. Who else gets to react to the schenanigans around them? The Audience isn't doing that. Y/N is!
Things to remember: -Mark talks in metaphors. Just kinda go with the flow and try not to think about it too much -The stories are powerful and important, but they're just stories. Calm tf down -Interpret things how you want, but these belong to Mark. Please respect what he says (ex: don't take the 'facets of personality' thing as 100% the case) -HEIST IS COMING AND I'M HYPED -jim
Back here post-Heist and Space, I'm really curious how the Anomaly and the Captain, who seem to be the same person, from those 2 events correlates with the Viewer from WKM. Mark told us the Viewer is stuck outside of the world, unable to change it, and now we have a new character, much like the Viewer, but not trapped on the other side of the glass anymore.
I know this comment is old but i found it interesting. Personally my opinion based on the show and everything mark said in the ISWM explanation stream, ISWM is in its own universe separate from the wkm universe/characters. Mark explicitly said in the stream that Engineer is not actor mark, but "Actor mark might just be engineer". He also reiterates multiple times that while ISWM is fictional, viewing it as "just a story" like his other projects ruins the impact of it because the whole point of ISWM is that all the resets aren't second chances, they are you dimension-hopping, and have real consequences. You are not just escaping death/explosions/messes etc, you're leaving behind those messes in that universe to hurt real people that trusted you. So it would be unfair and ruin the impact of ISWM to view it as just another one of actors stories that we are the helpless viewer of. ISWM is all about different universes and different versions of yourself, so including actor as an easter egg, since actor is another different "version of mark", from a different universe, is fun and makes sense for ISWM. But that doesn't mean that ISWM is the same as WKM. The captain in ISWM *IS* a different character from the regular "viewer", as they have choices that have real consequences. That's how I see it all anyway. I hope I'm making sense jkfglk but marks stuff is always very meta, which I love
I learned how to play the ending piece and I love it so much. The bitter sadness at the beginning and end but the sense of hope in the middle. God I love it
I get a really Handsome Jack vibe from The Actor, and I love it. Also, my impression from the ending was that Seline had been Dark by herself, and the ending was Damien basically beginning to co-pilot Dark with her, that, rather than taking turns, they'd be permanently together as Dark, both permanentloy changed. I missed the scene of her asleep in the water.
Markiplier is literally one of my favorite people ever, he is a fantastic storywriter, he is hilarious, and he puts so much love into this world!! Keep rocking on Mark!
I like that there is a warfstache video, and a damien video, but i really feel like there should be an Actor video to really wrap it all up. maybe it would be a prequel to WKM, because of all this backstory the actor supposedly has, not an ounce of it comes across in the videos, only in the explanations of the videos. More show less tell! Other than that I absolutely love this series, I get so excited about it! :D
I dont really need an actor backstory. What we get is enough to understand, I want to know what he has done since he took over Damian's body. We see him in the meta endings but how Canon are they? Well no, Damien was already suffering while Celene just kept everything from him. Plus, Wilford is not messing with reality, he doesn't have control over it. He's *accepting* reality as it is, and that's what's messing Celene's secret keeping up
55:20 For the specific piece that you chose, I really enjoy what the flute and other woodwinds add to the piece. There's this menacing threat that sets the tone for the piece and the way the flute comes in can be interpreted as some sort of innocence that's either being dragged into this predicament or that someone is being followed but is unaware of the danger they're in, which could be why the piece is named as such. Flute in particular always reminds me of levity and innocence, so paring with the intensity of this piece alongside brass and strings, really gives it body and makes you feel this impending doom on someone or something innocent. For Damien, I can see how that could have taken away from the emotion you were trying to convey though arguably, I think it would've been interesting. However, as I mentioned already, I would have associated the introduction of the flute in this instance as Damien running into danger he's not fully aware of. Others might have felt it detracted from the moment which I can totally see. But anyway, fantastic work! I loved this and just everything about it some much! Truly, a job well done! :D Also, 55:40 Correction, the coolest brass instrument is a Trombone, but I'll forgive your confusion since you Trumpet players often get confused fairly easily :P
Exactly!! Thank you! Flutes add either innocence or mystery depending on how they’re played. If they added some G sharps and B naturals (maybe even some D flats), it couldve added so much mystery to it!
As a published author nigh-constantly studying the concepts of storytelling, I thought I'd share some thoughts about Mark's writing style: Mark's writing isn't perfect. A few interactions could be smoother, some characters fleshed out, and some odd conveniences explained (such as the gardener in Who Killed Markiplier.) That said, he has two things that really set him apart from other storytellers. His methods and his moments. Let me explain. I have never encountered a plot as bizarre as the Who Killed Markiplier series. This strange, disjointed style that relies on intrigue and confusion to keep its audience engaged... it's all wonderfully refreshing. By itself a good video method does not make, however. This is where Mark's moments come in. He knows how to toy with tension, and how to build to a powerful point. When the music swells, the world softens, and a few lines are skillfully delivered. This is so well done that even in confusion the audience still senses importance. Each video delivers emotion despite not providing any straight answers, and I can honestly say that is _no easy feat!_ Will it pay off? We'll have to wait and see. Intrigue only sustains for so long, and if Mark can't answer every question he's created satisfactorily, he'll end up collapsing everything in on itself. We saw something similar happen to the TV show, Lost.
Honestly, your last point is a pitfall of MANY MANY writings. The thing I've noted for me each time is it's not necessarily the ending itself, it's how we get there. If there isn't enough build up to someone succeeding, failing or otherwise doing something that isn't explained from their characters motivations, then the ending doesn't feel real. It feels forced. The biggest pitfall I see is heel face turns or shifts in character that aren't explained by internal or external forces bringing them about. A character being a jerk and learning to be better, only to go back to being a jerk again because plot, or going from good to bad because of only small instances of showing that turmoil and possibility. Mark does a good job of explaining motivation in concurrent installments which is very appreciated. Not knowing why a character does anything is a common pitfall I see in high concept shows/movies.

I love Damien so mjch, because the ending is just a sudden "oh, shit" realization that clicks every piece together, since ADWM kicked this whole thing off:
Darkiplier is not the villain.
they're all villains. they're all heroes.
My Nana used to always say something I don’t necessarily know if I agree with it 100% but I still stand by it somewhat
“There are no heroes or villains
There is no good and bad
There is no right and wrong
There are only choices
And the consequences of those choices”
This may sound creepy but I once had a dream that I was back in elementary school and darkiplier was my teacher. He was really nice and sweet, I think this is just because I never thought he was bad and a good teacher on different perspectives.

The best part with this story and the way mark explains it is that no one is a liar, they just perceive things differently. It allows twists and turns without outrage.

In conclusion…
- Actor Mark is messing around with weird wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff (Heist and Date), which will most likely lead to the events of Heist 2.
I dunno.

Lol, you just summed up the entire story!
basically! 😂

Jim is just Mark's Ego that looks at the story from the outside and makes fun of the story and what people theorized about it.
Jim?
@@sambojamboltm6244 You don't know Jim News? With Camera man Jim, Reporter Jim, and Jim with Commentary?
He actually said his influence for them was how he would in order to psych himself up/boost self esteem, he would have two characters in his head that would comment on his day like sports commentators. Likely he took that and they both turned out to be twins and thought it was funny and then decided there were so many Jim's.
I have a theory (well, more of a headcanon but we’ll go with it) that connects the events of WKM with Heist, Date, and eventually Heist 2:
After betraying all of his friends and losing everything he has, Actor Mark is trying to find a new way of life.
This theory explains:
-Why Y/N is no longer stuck in front of the mirror
-Why Mark from Date/Heist seems nicer than the Actor
-Why Darkiplier is portrayed as a villain
-Why we see Warfstache in the choose-your-own-adventures
-What Mark did after the events of Damien
-How WKM links to Mark’s other projects
TL;DR- Actor Mark saves us from the mirror so he can have a companion to go on adventures (Date/Heist) with.
Y/N is!
So Mark is working in Austin, with Rooster Teeth, on a new Date with Markiplier-style project?
This will be amazing!
I'm from the future, the project is here

Every time he explains the story I always gain more appreciation for it
Back here post-Heist and Space, I'm really curious how the Anomaly and the Captain, who seem to be the same person, from those 2 events correlates with the Viewer from WKM.

I dont really need an actor backstory. What we get is enough to understand, I want to know what he has done since he took over Damian's body. We see him in the meta endings but how Canon are they? What is he doing? Parole? For what, for how long? How does this video connect to everything for the actor?
Also,
55:40 Correction, the coolest brass instrument is a Trombone, but I'll forgive your confusion since you Trumpet players often get confused fairly easily :P
Exactly!! Thank you! Flutes add either innocence or mystery depending on how they’re played. If they added some G sharps and B naturals (maybe even some D flats), it couldve added so much mystery to it!

As a published author nigh-constantly studying the concepts of storytelling, I thought I'd share some thoughts about Mark's writing style:
Mark's writing isn't perfect.
Each video delivers emotion despite not providing any straight answers, and I can honestly say that is _no easy feat!_
Will it pay off? We'll have to wait and see. Intrigue only sustains for so long, and if Mark can't answer every question he's created satisfactorily, he'll end up collapsing everything in on itself. We saw something similar happen to the TV show, Lost.
I read this whole comment in a TV announcers voice, i was honestly half excepting a “-tune in next time to find out!”
Prickly Pear | I'll take that as a compliment.
Haha, don’t worry, i meant it as one.
