Lviv looks better than Kiev i must say
Because it was built by Poles, not Russians. Ukrainians can't stand anything Russian. They want to distance themselves from Russia by only keeping Western Ukrainian culture alive. Thus they care so much about Western Ukraine (which historically was Polish) and ignore the problems of Eastern Ukraine. That’s why Lviv looks way better than Kyiv.

Lviv is not a Polish city. Lviv was founded by Prince Daniel Galitsky in the middle of the 13th century. 😊 It was under Polish occupation for only 20 years.
From 1349 to 1772 it was part of the Kingdom of Poland (and the kingdom was also an integral part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth)

Lviv has the oldest bell in Ukraine, 1341. Unfortunately, the communists destroyed a lot of churches in Ukraine and a lot of ancient bells, so the oldest one is the one in St. George's Cathedral in Lviv. There is a version that that cathedral were founded by Galician prince Lev Danylovich, who in 1282 brought the body of his father, King Danylo, from Galicia to the already existing monastery there. All these events happened even before the attack of the Polish king on the Rus' Kingdom.

Lviv is the most nationalistic city in Ukraine. My mom was at Lviv in 1989 in tour as a student, she told it was beautiful city with a lot of old buildings, but russian speakers are not welcome here. They may look at you with contempt when hear you speaking and will not help to show the way to go even at that time...

It's a Polish city, and only become part of Ukraine thanks to Russia's victory in WW2. That's why you see typical Polish architecture. I guess Lviv will be Ukraine's new capitol after Russia wins this latest conflict.

Russia was an empire (one of the biggest) for centuries, and all money from all colonies went to Moscow and Peterburg, even now Moscow is 10 steps ahead of any other Russian city, surely it's covered with golds and diamonds. What's the point even to compare Moscow to Ukrainian cities. Compare Ufa, Chelyabinsk with Lviv.
Surely you can earn much more money in Moscow than in Kyiv or even Warsaw or may be even Berlin.
But on the other hand there are 125 billionaires in Russia, while the average salary in Russia is 1000$. And e.g. in Poland average salary is 2000$ and only 3 billionaires in country.
In Finland 7 billionares and average salary 4800$.
This is why ukrainians want to learn things from Europe and distance themselves from Russia.

Your grandfather just didn't realised that soviet occupation for decades were much worse than germans actually do while controled these lands for few years during ww2. Anything is better than living under ruzzians, even such terrifying thing as Third Reich (simple lesser evil). Everybody feels bad about evil germans. but feels okay for soviet ruzzians, who caused much more deaths and disasters here. Both nazi and soviet ideology and symbolism are banned here and prohibited by criminal law.

Lwow looks more or less good inside boundaries of a small city center. About half a mile along Freedom Square and a couple of adjacent streets. Everything else is in dilapidated state.
Downtown was built in the times of Austria-Hungary. In the course of WWII 100 thousand jews were exterminated, 100 tousand poles were evicted. So the vast majority of people of Lwow own apartments of those who were either killed or forcefully deported. That is the reason for barbaric graffiti and general attitude towards maintaining of the city.
You do a step aside from touristic route and found yourself in the times of the USSR....

I'm impressed how many people in this video (and also In the Kyiv video) speak fine English. I mean, even if basic phrasee, but without terrible accent and without obviuos mistakes. From my memory, back in the days, most of the people were struggling to squeze out couple of words. I guess some things do change for the better.

А ведь россияне любят говорить, что Киев мать городов русских, но ведь современный Киев в основном был отстроен как раз таки во времена Российской империи и СССР.
Выходит, что обычный венгреский городишко на границе империи построили лучше, чем важнейший "исконно-русский" город...
@@ДмитроВасильєв-ц8о Киев как столицу захейтили по сравнению с супер современной москвой, который отстал в развитии на 30 лет, потому что украинцы нам рассказывали что у нас в РФ нет асфальта и живем в нищете, оказалось наоборот, киевское метро завешено рекламой как в Москве 90х, многие станции затопило и не могут починить, в Москве при этом построены сотни новых станций, в Киеве не одной.. украинцы смеялись над покрышками на детских площадках в каких то русских деревнях, у самих такие в киеве, пляжи необустроеные и все такое, чистый совок. Когда Киев вернется в Россию его облагородят на уровне российских миллионников. Что касается львова, то это тоже запущенный город, все старое, современностью не пахнет, стены отколупливаются, раскрашены какой то дичью, трамваи еще Ильич запускал, но с такой древней архитектурой оно все смотрится аутентично, будто так и надо, то есть к этому городку претензий меньше, смотрим чисто на европейскую архитектуру, узкие улицы необычные для РФ.
