“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”- Siddharta Gautama
By the way, this does logically include something that the Buddha may or may not have said as well. It's a shame that some Buddhist themselves trust all of Buddha's teachings blindly. The Buddha wanted to eliminate any form of blind following. Some Buddhist people say, "The Buddha has stated X... therefore I believe it". While the definition of a buddhist is indeed to take the Buddha as a role-model and as a transmitter of wisdom, one has to be careful not to do precisely that what the Buddha feared what become of his followers. Buddha didn't intend to start a "religion" or even an "organized movement", he simply transmitted his experiencial wisdom to others, but what you do with that wisdom of his (whether you agree with ALL of it, or SOME of it), is up to your own inferential experience. Yes, true, one shouldn't deny something that the Buddha has stated solely because one may not necessarily like a certain harsh truth, but that doesn't necessarily mean blind-following either. There has to be a middle-ground, but sadly often people fall into extremes. And the Buddha wanted to precisely avoid his followers from believing extremes, even if it meant following Buddha's own words.

To Ricardo Cabezes and Joann Calve who requested more info on this chant: This is a profound buddhist chant comprising 5 separate chants. The first (Dhammasanganimatikapatha) enumerates the ultimate realities by triads (tikas). The second is the Patthana or book of conditional relations. The third are passages on the Stages of Insight, the 5 Aggregates, 12 Sense fields, 18 elements, 22 Faculties, the Four Noble Truths & the law of Dependent Origination. The fourth is the Discourse on Loving Kindness, and the Fifth is a chant summing up the nature of existence, which is impermanent. Please check out www.abhidhamma.org/dhammasangani.htm for Dhammasangani and Patthana; and, www.accesstoinsight.org for Annica Vata Sankhara.. by Bhikhu Bodhi.

It is important to keep chanting practices like this to maintain Pali, so it doesn't become a dead language. It is very important to maintain Pali as it is the language the Buddha spoke in. Not all the meanings of the words in Pali can be directly or even wholly properly translated into English. The philology should always be guarded especially in things like this Buddhadhamma.

Buddha did all his sermons in Maagadi. As counterintuitive as it may sound because india is a multilingual country now, Buddha didnt preach in many languages( although he definitely would have known those languages. Buddha knew everything)
The reason why Theravadha buddhism is written and preserved in Pali is :- Maagadhi is a language of spoken characters, in other words it only had sounds but no letters. Due to this theravadha buddhism was preserved among monks completely thru memorization. But later buddhism became nearly extinct in india due to hindu and muslim rule.
So the pure theravadha buddhism was preserved and continued in Sri lanka. As tym went by a severe famine affected sri lanka causing many Arhat (those who attained enlightenment) to die. So thr was a need to write down the Sutra (sermons). This was done in Sri lanka. Since the language of sri
Lanka (sinhala) was originally derived from Pali and since Maagadhi language had no letters, the Dhamma was all written down in pali. Later those pali scriptures were translated to Sanskrit which gave rise to mahayana tradition.

I read the biography of Acariya Mun and got more familiar with the Pali terminology and the Forest tradition and even visited Abhayagiri recently. This recording sound great.

Thats the original pali language. You need to translate it to your own language to understand the meaning of this chanting. There is a meaning in each single word and phrase in Pali chanting.
Further, there is nothing call funeral chanting to n Buddhism. This is someone who thought of renaming Buddha's teaching according to their day today use.
Buddhism is a very deep philosophy that someone needs to go through debate with his or her own sense and understanding. Its not easy to understand like any other basic religions in the world.
All the other religions in the world teaches that there is a god who created the world and There are good things to do and bad things to avoid while imposing rules in both civil and monastic society. But Buddhism is totally different and there is lots to research learn and understand with your own sense.
Read " Sathara Sathipattana" . Its one of the creams.

    • @FunkyChickenKiev

+re98 wlk Doubt it very much. More likely, you are "avoiding life" through working too many hours, not spending enough time with friends and family, not being in the present, always thinking and worrying about the future or regrets in the past. Your mind always avoiding the reality of the world and it's own nature.
Try going on a retreat for 10 days where all you are in complete silence for 10 days, cannot talk to anyone and are forced to look directly inside your 'self'. It is one of the hardest things you will ever do in your life. Or don't. Just carry on as if you didn't read this. It's your life, you must do what you think is right. :)

It is not the language that one should focus into,,,the vibes that create 108times of,,,connecting into the river of universal informations...now experimenting on Quantom Physics...
"avoiding life"-Absolutly yes,,,people are always trying to fulfilling ones thoughts that never be able to fulfilled.
Have you ever be able to fulfill your thoughts that are emerging BECAUSE OF A REASON since you've been born?
If you really really want to face the truth of life...try this one ...
Once your any thought bubbled up, sit and stop your body without making any action according to that thought...see how you go,,,face the truth...and see your self that your so called 'my mind' takes your go insane ordering to do this and that and again and again...
See your self and you'll realise whats this is all about.
