- Social media is full of fake history Whatsapp forwards, TH-cam videos and other means. School text books too teach history which is simply untrue.
Dr Ruchika Sharma, a PhD in medieval history from JNU, also uses TH-cam and X to counter this misleading history. She says much of the fake history is about Hindutva's favourite themes of trying to undermine the Aryan migration theory and villainising Muslim rulers especially Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan. She tells Sidharth Bhatia in an interview that research has shown that the exaggerated claims of the destruction of temples are untrue.
Social media allows her to reach a younger audience and she said academic historians should explore this medium to counter all that fake history.

The practice of victors destroying places of worship of the vanquished has been recorded since pre-Biblical times in Rome, Greece and Mesopatamia where temples of pre Christian beliefs were replaced by Churches.
From 7th and 8th Centuries, Churches in Asia and Africa were demolished and replaced by Mosques.
Ruchika Sharma is right several Buddhist temples and Viharas were demolished to be replaced by Hindu Temples.

Also please update yourself with hundreds of temples destroyed in recent times (after 2014) by the current ruler. May be its better to take revenge on the person who is alive than on the person who lived thousands/hindreds of years back for whatever justification he had to destroy mosques/jain/buddhists temples to build hindu temples.

In west, grade 12 students taking history are not just expected to just memorize dates. They are expected to go through original sources when writing up their assignments. Indian schools could do the same. But it does seem we are not interested in history, but whatever serves the purpose of the powers that be.

Let me bring this to your notice I am 72 years old when I was in high school we had a teacher by the name of Mr Archer he was a Britisher who used to teach us history and civics he told us the history of what we studied then was not true history, and he very categorically said we Brits have changed it which suited us to divide the two communities namely Hindu and Muslim to break their unity and rule India. He added the repercussions of this destruction of Moghul's history a time will come in future when Hindus and Muslims will be at loggerheads and Hindus will be after Muslims' blood.

From temples to Buddha stupas to even mosques were routinely attacked, one kingdom attacked another kingdom routinely and destroyed it’s people or god. The Shivaji and Marathas are praised so much. But the same Maratha soldiers attacked and looted Bengal around 1700s and almost killed 4 lakhs people. Killing looting and destroying was part of kings and kingdoms. We can not judge them today. Court record of aurangzeb is available, learn Persian and read actual source. Aurangzeb was not secular as everyone is trying to prove. Destroying others temple and idol is basis of abrahamic religion, thats how abrahamic religion started and there is inherent hate for people who dont follow their religion. Indic religion doesn't teach to destroy others place of worship. There have been few incidance of conflict within indic religion but that doesn't make it equal with a religion which is created on the basis of hate.

I would differ to Ruchika on Guru Ram Rai and the Jangams being given grants as an act of benevolence. Anyone who did not criticise him was granted funds. Guru Teg Bahadur and Guru Gobind Singh did not that is why they were killed.
