Between tuition increases, other inflation, and stagnation in wages; I am not even sure if this is a cure for the student debt problem. I don’t think it’s a matter of financial planning, it’s a combination of multiple conflicting financial circumstances. For instance, if you want your kids to attend a good school district, you’ll pay extra in housing; if you want them to be involved in extracurricular activities, that will cost and the bill will continue to inflate; if you care about their health and diet, you’ll go in debt feeding a family of four. This is just the truth of today’s time; now imagine saving for a ballooning tuition bill while also saving for an illusive ideal of retirement…it’s daunting.
Note, I am a practicing attorney and my significant other also makes a fair living. Both are college educated and for the most part, we feel a completely different financial situation than an Attorney and Public Administrator would have 20 years ago. Also I’m financially conservative, so…..

This is an incredibly sad statement from a 40 year old black man. You have people within your family that I know was alive before Brown V Board and Jim Crow that can speak to the hard life of a black person during that time, let alone a black man. We’re not that far removed from “those” times. And let me make it clear, black man. You won’t see this country burn, you will instead see your house, people you love, your family, your community, etc burn before you see “this country” burn. I’m not sure when your generation became disillusioned in thinking you’re one of them. No black man, you and everyone that looks like you will burn and the United States will still stand, but as an all white nation. If that is what you want, then shame on you.

Many live in cities and states, but when voting see only the Presidential election... Many are affected on the local level. Not voting, only contributes to the intended plan of those who do not want others to succeed. Much like maintenance for anything, we can't just wait till election time to say what the process is not doing for me or anyone; or getting to know candidates, and what they stand for, or finding out what is trying to be snuck under the carpet and hidden away... Being informed and making a true difference is a continual process. By being involved and bringing others in, we can stop a lot of the stuff that seems to go against us.

@@tresa38 It’s not misinformation. Under Trump black unemployment hit its lowest level ever in 2019. It’s a fact that you can look up. So the question is why didn’t MLH and DWB mention that? The reason they didn’t is because it would hi-light a positive for the black community when Trump was president. DWB and MLH are pumping out the propaganda to get Biden re-elected which makes them no different from the people they criticize. Plain and simple.

The foolish black Biden supporters are either ignorant or they’re informed and acting on emotion and not logical. It’s just this simple:
When Trump the in office the country was in better shape on all fronts. This democracy is at stake is a CNN and MSNBC talking point. You notice they all sound the same but they can’t really explain how our democracy is at stake just repeating what they hear 😆.
Not a Trump fan but facts are facts and Biden and his administration definitely ain’t the play.
If our democracy is at stake is because of Trump:
      Lower interest rate
      Cheaper gas
      Cheaper food
      Closed borders
      Etc…
Well let it be at stake then because that’s what we had under Trump last term.

Great conversation. Sadly, we talk and think too small on how to raise Black well-being, which always leads to all having well-being. To make that happen, it will take a mind-shift, a cultural-shift to restruct the governance of society 1) no more corporate lobbying, aka, bribery, 2) use anti-trust to break up the big banks, big pharma, big food monopolies, 3) cut military budget by no less than 35%, then take those $100s of millions/year, and the new businesses and new jobs created from breaking up monopolies and then structure low, no cost education pipelines to fill the employment and business demand. Simultaneously, the government launches a nationwide home building and infrastructure program that models the G-I bill that established generation wealth for whites after WWII. We have the money and resources. We don't have the will to make it happen.

Politics can't do any more for a person, than they are willing to do for themselves. Both parties have had their turn to govern and neither one has lowered the percentage of Black people living at or below the poverty line. Government and even the privilege of race, can only do so much for a person. Even some born into privilege squander the advantages, they are born with. This is where true social community/social activists are needed. The social institutions - schools especially, must be allowed to perform their functions. I don't recall whether culture was discussed in this video, but culture is at the heart of the problems we face in our communities, and with us as a group. The anti-social aspects of the culture, in many of our communities, is counter-productive for the healthy emotional, spiritual, and mental development of us. Many of the younger generations constantly speak of "The Culture". Many of us, of the boomer generation have no idea what this speaks to. What have been the fruits of this new culture?
In celebrating its 50th anniversary last year, Hip-Hop said it "changed the world". How could it do that, but not change the communities it came out of? This is a question that is produced out of honesty and critical thinking, both of which seems a lost art among us, for many decades now. Politics as I see it, seem just a fad, among younger generations. How can anyone put so much hope in it, given the amount of people we have elected in the last half century? It helps somewhat. It keeps us to some degree, from losing the gains we have achieved over the decades, but it surely is not a game changer for us.
The late Harold Cruse in his book 'The Crisis of the Negro Intellectual' posited that ethnic group social advancement ,follows a formula of cultural unity fostering economic development, which in turn, is used to gain politic influence and power. We have put politics first, and cultural unity is none existent, and we fracture even further every decade, at least.
KRS-One has said Hip-Hop should be an ethnicity within itself. There does not even exist a governance structure in Hip- Hop, to facilitate a debate within Hip-Hop, not even on an issue as fundamental as this statement. The logical question it raises is, is there anything real about Hip-Hop? Is it all just performative Blackness? Are the politicians we have been electing lately, more concerned about putting on a performance in government, knowing much of it is now recorded?
Again these are questions that arise out of honesty and the application of logic and critical thinking. We hear and see the chaos, disruption, violence, and lack of learning in so many of our schools, yet no degree of alarm has been shown concerning it. If we can't all see this as a crucial problem, that must be rectified quickly, what are we really about, where are our true interest and concerns? Are they masked behind politics? Why has there been no acknowledgement, that any response from us, to what most who are speaking, say is a structured and systemic force, must also be of that nature, or at the least highly coordinated?
If we are not first acknowledging this and moving collectively to bring it about, what are we trying to do? How can we think, it will produce any more than what, we have already gained?

I agree with this brother. We should vote our interest and we shouldn't be one issue voters. We should be looking at bills that the House and Senate vote on. The fact of the matter is the Democratic party tends to vote on bills that are sympathetic to issues in the black community such as the George Floyd bill and the John Lewis bill. The Republican party has shown consistently that their policies and ideology is anti black. No party is going to give you everything you want. And most importantly about the presidential election, we need to look at the Supreme court and federal judges. The judges appointment by Donald J could care less about black people. It ain't rocket science. We don't have the luxury of white people who are going to ok regardless of who is elected.
