  • Another 50 entries have come, and it's time for another revisit of every drive we've seen here. Some may have made even more impressive careers (looking at you, HDWD130), and some may not have lived to see the new leaf, but in their wake, 40 more new drives (to contrast with 86 from the season before; 16 of those PATA, and therefore not in episode 50) have appeared, all with fascinating quirks and platforms of their own.
Next time, we finally pay a visit to the drive that started this whole hard drive collecting gig.

Fortune finally allowed time to sit down and go through this incredible set of drives. The big 100!
Certainly an interesting & varied set of finds and acquisitions. I'm quite jealous of the sheer variety of WD's you have. Well, seeing all those modern Seagate's is another thing of entertainment after seeing them seperately. It's a good thing drive #100 turned out so much better than drive #1, both WD's at that! (although, I'm sure totally unintentional)
I'll still never get over the dirt on #56. Here's to 200!

I have to wonder what would have been the 100th drive if SATA drives continued to be excluded... Perhaps that answer might be obvious if we properly count.
Sadly, one thing that I've decidedly been slacking off on is new Toshibas, but only due to the fact no interesting new models have come... insert MG10-D plug here. On the contrary, both Seagate and WD have new models to bring to the fray quite a lot, although this seems to have mostly died down. Let's hope I can finally complete my 2 TB/platter CMR collection soon.
It's always funny to use the muddy WD5000AZRX-00A8LB0 shot; I do have one of it being cleaned, which appeared in its full video, but for both the marathons I preferred to use a pic more fitting of its final fate.

Amazing collection you've got here! Such variety from all the different drive makers.
You already seem set on episode 150, so I've got a suggestion for episode 200 (if you get that far, let's hope you do!): As well as the updated collection, include a diagram that visually shows where all the drives fall into place in your very sophisticated backup system. You mention all these different drives back up these other drives and my brain can't keep up! Thanks for all the videos and keep the series coming!

Such a thing would require quite a bit of work to make fit into a video format, although I do have plenty of tables to track things behind the scenes. I do want to migrate to a new management method that doesn't require a load of Word documents, though.

Luckily, as an update on this, I'm migrating my databases of hard drives to a new platform that I've handbuilt myself (as opposed to "just a bunch of Word documents")... and one feature that will come from this is the ability to export tree diagrams representing where everything fits in the backup system. It's still early days, but that's something to look forward to.

@@TheDragonFire123 I am definitely looking forward to the big reveal, can't wait to finally wrap my head around your insanely great system!
