Tried different headphones over the years. 560, he6se, lcd2, lcd3, hd800. Have sold every one and gone back to my he500.
Just bought a pair of Atriums to see if it's an upgrade over my trusty he500, haha.

I've had mine for more than 9 years and still enjoy them a lot.. With regards to the grill mod, I've done it and removed afterwards: yes, you have more space, but the headphones don't sound anymore as intended by the designer.. (well, this means something to me).. With the original grills the sound is more pronounced, full and natural.. the mids are just fantastic.. In fact, with the original grills they sound as something in-between closed and open, if it makes sense.. with the best from each world.. I also happen to have Arya SE and sometimes I find their sound not concentrated and full enough: more air and less sound fabric (if it makes sense).. Just my opinion..

I had the original HE-5, and then moved into the HE-500 and still have them...the only weakness is the cable connection, and the weight concentrated into a too narrow band. I've had all kinds of different janky homemade foam mods to make them conformable over the years. Thankfully Norse Audio has fixed the issues with my cable connection when it has broken over 10+ years like yourself.

Have them, love them. Out of my XA25 they even level up once more. Real treat.

I have the HE-500 since 2013 and I loved it the most when I got the ifi Zen Can..specially the bass and width button.
When you press these buttons this headphone turn to a new level in term of bass and width...it becomes so beautiful to listen to.

The ZEN CAN bass boost is 12 db. A little too much for me with most headphones. Unless the volume is very low.

Hey Will. Glue a dustproof materia on internal side of grills. I use speaker fronts dustproof material for it (can be bought from audio store).

Hello, which would you recommend more, Dan Clark Flow open, or Hifiman edt. XS...?? I think that Dan Clark has a little better outdoor insulation, but I don't know if there is much difference in sound...?

It's been a couple of years since I reviewed the DCA. If I remember correctly it had a similar sound to the Edition-XS. The XS is significantly cheaper and needs less amp to drive. For the price of the DCA you could get an Ananda Stealth.
