  • I go over what I've done to make my van more secure.
    Plus I added a van safe to the bed frame (which I forgot to show).

    Nice work. For the windows you could use Scotchshield Security Window Film.

    Wow. You really did an amazing job. There is no way I could have come up with those solutions. And everything is very cost-effective. I think this video will help a lot of people out there. Kudos. Continued success and stay safe!

    Awesome idea putting the lock on the sliding door track! I'm definitely going to incorporate that one into my build.
    I've used a few similar modifications to my Promaster, but instead of the individual locks on the front doors I put a chain from one door to the other. At the 3:35 mark in your video there's a little black plug that has a hole below it. That hole can accept a fairly large eye bolt and I use a lock and chain to connect the two.

      @onthetrailwithbart523  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, I thought about the chain thing too. The problem is we sit in the chairs during the evening, so the chain would interfere.
      Secondly, I instruct my wife to point the van towards the road and turn the seats forward when she's ready to go to bed, so if someone was trying to break in, she could just jump in the drivers seat and take off.

      I saw an item sold by German company but they don't ship to US. It attached to the back upper screw of the door pocket and then looped over the seat belt post. I copied the idea using spring clip around seat belt post connect to chain that is secured to the screw of the door pocket. I installed a snap hook midway down the chain so half the chain hangs from each connection point and you use the snap hook to connect the 2 short pieces of chain. This connects the door to the seat belt post and allows it to open no more than an inch - not enough to get bolt cutters inside to cut the chain.

    Great video and great ideas. Some are really "major simple" like the wooden stick to secure the sliding door from inside...duh, why didn't I think of that? Anyway, thanks for sharing - gave me what I needed to get my doors secured.

    Great ideas! I have a 2016 Chevy Express 2500 van I bought last year and just recently started my build. Last week someone popped the cylinder key lock inward on the driver side door and broke in the van. I didn't have any tools or nothing of value for them to take so I guess they were after tools. That's the only thing I worry about when building out a white cargo van. They all have a bad rap as to the possibility that there might be expensive tools inside to the eye of a common car thief. Puck locks and any type of external locks are still an open signal that there's something of value in there. What to do! Your right, if they want in bad enough they will find a way, but at least your ideas will definitely slow them down and give them a moment of pause. I am going to implement your ideas. My only concern was the hole that you drilled on the external rail for the side door. Is it hard to get that cylinder lock through there?

    • @onthetrailwithbart523
      @onthetrailwithbart523  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no. It's easy to hook the lock through the rail. I bought the locks below. But if I were to do it again I would buy a better grade of lock like Master or something.. Glad my video helped!

    Most of your security measures give you a false sense of security because they're easily defeated! The only good security measures , is the safe! If you think those locks keep you safe in the van. What happens if a fire breaks out inside your van & you need to get out?
