    Good video, I grew up in Silverlake's 60s 70s and was around a little for the 80s; I saw your nighttime Silverlake vid, good stuff. I remember visiting McCarther Park when I was a kid, it was a decent place to let the kids go out and play, feed the ducks, and walk around. I can't believe the dystopian turn that the place took. Good job on researching the neighborhood, and props.

    Little Central America, Pico Union. So much unknown history and untold stories about the Central Americans that have been there for decades. Nice video.

    Thank you for sharing. My husband lived on this street back in the 60s, somewhere between Beverly Blvd and Court Ln/St. with his sister and her family, on the right side in one of those homes, don’t remember the address. He attended Belmont High School. Great video, so sad for the homeless community. What a journey walk! Awesome!

    SAction Kid, o disappointed that you walked right past one of the most famous Deli's in California, Los Angeles's Langers Del on the corner of Alvarado & 7th St, most say it is the finest Pastrami Sandwich in the World! What ever reseach you did you blew at least an opportunity to have the #19 sandwich there since 1946. Their rye bread is baked twice! Every New York City person would welcome an opportunity ...next time Action Kid, next time!

    I've never been to Alvarado Ave, so it's nice to see the historical architectures in the neighborhood! 😃 It's sad to see the homeless population at MacArthur Park, but thank you for documenting this. ☹ I've also been curious about Historic Filipinotown and glad to see you featured this neighborhood as well. Keep up the good work, AK!! 😎👍

      Really appreciate it! I knew Alvarado Street had a lot of changes in scenery along the way and would be a great place to show off the diversity of LA

    AK, did you know palm trees are classified as a grass! In 2006, LA city stated that they will use native trees along streets, no more palms, that is why you see no young palms along the street. Only one palm is native to Southern Cal, the California Palm or Fan Palm.

    Westlake along Wilshire Blvd was a premiere area back in the 1920s to 1940s. Lots of beautiful buildings. The park was amazing 1 park, no road between it. Dense architecture. Post war downtown, Koreatown Wilshire center, Hollywood and old LA declined as richer and whites moved west like midwilshire, Beverley hills, Westside and suburbs. Old LA attracted new but poor immigrants. Crime, drugs, poor education, homeless, cycles of poverty keeps old LA this way. Starting around late 90s, LA improved slowly with less poor immigrants arriving, crime drugs gangs lessening. Downtown attracts developers like staples center LA lives. Subway system was small but brand new. Fast forward today, downtown built entire new neighborhoods for middle class. Koreatown built lots of new middle class buildings. Silver Lake and echo park got gentrification spreading into historic Filipino town. Right in the middle is Westlake. Koreatown has pushed gentrification east on Vermont and downtown pushed gentrification west of 110 freeway. Lots of potential new development including high rises and midrise along Wilshire Blvd. In next 10 years, Westlake along Wilshire should be clean up and slowly cleaned up north and south of Wilshire.

    Wow you really did walk a lot in SoCal. I’ve been to every place you have except not walking and over 40 years. I worked in westlake area for 20 years. It was very dangerous in the 90s. MacArthur park was actually cleaned up and they planted tons of palm trees and a skate park but has a huge homeless problem. The most famous place on Alvarado is Langers deli on 7th famous for their pastrami. You could of easily click baited everyone by highlighting the homeless problem in MacArthur park but I’m glad you didn’t do that.

    • @gizmo7365
      @gizmo7365 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ActionKid well it’s not that it’s any cleaner now but it was just more dangerous before with lots of drug deals and shootings. It’s still dangerous compared to other parts of LA and the homeless problem is out of control. The streets are also very dirty and no one really cleans up.

    A little bit, about journalism. collect key facts about the area you are documenting and when you reach of the key spots offer that information to your viewers. Alvarado street is one of the oldest streets in Southern California. Too many missed opportunities to inform viewers of the Pico-Union , Westlake and Echo Park-Silver lake areas.

      The third world could teach the sterile 1st world a few things. Remember these new comers do the jobs that 3rd or 4th generayion citizens would never do, it is the immigrants and slaves that did the heavy work whiile the native born try to pay them less and less! I am 3 rd generation age 75, and have been given many awards by cities I lived in...so don't be so harsh and negative could be a good reason why that Asia is rising while our beautiful land has so many folks "entitled" and lazy!
