Over all though, it was great learning speed for me. Just thought I would add my 2 cents in case she reads the comments. Not to comfort her ego but to say yours is only one opinion.

      His philosophy is good but he wasn't able to live his truth. Frail at 49, died at age 51. It's probably all much more complicated than our conscious minds can work out. Are we caught in the trap of trying to process consciously something that is subconscious or intuitive. Maybe the answer is that there is no answer, not until we can effectively connect with our subconscious?

  • @Brice23
    @Brice23 ปีที่แล้ว

    The author died at age 50, not long after the publication of this book, due to "extreme frailty" in the final years of his life. It is hard to transmit things that you haven't got.

    The narrator Jill Preston tells you her name at the beginning and end of every chapter. This means you are told her name 34 times. I find that a bit much. I just learned that Wattles was extremely frail when he wrote this book in 1910, according to his daughter Florence. He had been frail for two years and died a year later in 1911.He was only 51 years old. Extremely frail by 48 and dead by 51 is NOT living in the good health this book talks about.

    • @brianzybura8633
      @brianzybura8633 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diane, I fully agree with you. I Googled Wallace Wattles and there is nothing that comes up about his frailty and untimely death. No mention of any disease that he might have had and its seems that his daughter was very secretive about it. Like you, I am not sold on this book at all and this audio recording is not really worth the time to listen to.

I admit, that I forgot that back in 1900 there was no central heating, air conditioning, and all other comforts that a lot of us take for granted today such as in home flush toilets, and home kitchen appliances. People did not live that long back then, generally speaking. Again his authorship is very valuable.

    I was impressed by the teachings. However, his comments about the "Australian savage who lives in a hollow tree or a hole in the ground" (paraphrased) shows a high degree ignorance and arrogance that I had not expected, and is insulting in the extreme. Also, Jill Preston, if you're unsure as to how a word is pronounced, FIND OUT before presenting it to the world. This also shows a degree of both ignorance, and disrespect.

    I don't mind the voice so much as the breaking of the flow of thought caused by the long and tedious "commercials" at the end of each chapter and the beginning of the next
    We know about Librivox and public domain, etc. Once at the beginning and in summary of the last chapter should be enough. I never got through this book because those commercials were just too distracting. Shame because it seemed like a good book and a useful message, but delivery in this format ruined it too much to continue.

    "Australian savage"?! Incredible racism in chapter 10!

    • @Divchyk
      @Divchyk 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dear FemmeBleu, author of this book Wallace D. Wattles was born in 1860 and passed away in 1911, long, before genetically-modified fruits and vegetables, wheat, and other grains came about. Unfortunately, from 1950s on selective and genetic modifications, use of chemicals, etc., in order to increase produce output, led to huge changes in composition of these produce on molecular level, especially in wheat. Wheat varieties of today have 15 or more new proteins (gluten), which trigger allergic reaction. Information in this book is very valuable, but one must take into account, that fruits, vegetables and other foods of today are different from 100 years ago. About wheat - there is a very good book "Wheat belly" by William Davis, MD. I liked it a lot. It explained many things, which I found helpful, even if one does not have pronounced wheat allergy. It is very easy to read and very practical. You may find it interesting as well. I hope you are managing your allergy well. I live with the autoimmune disorder and it is lots of fun as well ;). Wishing you all the very best.
