Love these animations. I've had a fascination about mechanical devices since childhood. That's why I'm now a 3D animation artist who does freelance engineering design and visualization of other people's inventions.
Simple enough in operation, but I'll be danged if I'll ever get a handle on how someone sorted this out in his noggin--especially the 3-section ones on huge airliners :)

Actually on airliners they use roller tracks and worm gear....
So That's how they work!
