When on their lunch break, the African guy was given the wrong lunch and said "this is not my sandwich". Catherine added it to her impression and you can see him almost lose it when she says it.
Catherine Tate is a god. It's a great sketch. It couldn't be done today, but it's right on the line. The thing that still saves it is that _she's_ the racist and we're laughing at her, not the racism.
Saying 'spaghetti' in a fake Italian accent is NOT racist. :) Racism involves a hate or intolerance of a RACE of people. Being Italian is not a race, it's a nationality.
They were all in stitches doing this sketch apparently, especially the Chinese lady. . The reson the Africam guy is almost laughing is taht during a break he picked up a sandwich and actually said 'This is not my sandwich' and Catherine came out with it in recording.
In this world today it’s good to laugh and joke. All the actors were in stitches. Please no one be offended as it’s just comedy. Catherine’s a beautiful person.
Catherine Tate. What can I say. Classic. So un-Political Correctness. We need to laugh at each other. I am a Scotsman and I don't take offence to people taking the piss out of my race, when it isn't derogatory. If anything, this displays the ignorance of some people. I a funny way. We really need to laugh more as humans. ❤😂
Speaking of offensive. I highly recommend you look into Anthony Jezelnick and his 4 standups specials in this order: Shakespeare, Caligulia, Thoughts and Prayers and Fire in the Maternity Ward. Disclaimer: Its very offensive but very funny. The best thing about this comedian is he sets up for a delivery and throws people off. Im pretty sure a couple of his standup can be played in parts, the others come as full shows here on YT
I’m a translator at Tokyo Stock Exchange. It’s no big deal but just putting it out there, the title “translator” refers to one that translates written text. Someone that translates verbally is called an interpreter. It would be more appropriate to call this video “Offensive Interpreter.” Lots of these videos get it wrong. I know people get annoyed about semantics like this, but that’s the nature of my job😂
She is using the characteristics that stand out from those languages. I dont think that you can say that it is racist, but if it is... well, she was racist to every continent, which is fair.
Watching this and reactions to it never gets old. So many land of Ing 🇬🇧 comedians to celebrate and offer up but I shall recommend Mr Kenny Everett. Zany and crazy and off the wall humour of late 70s to late 80s. It's hard to believe it was broadcast on prime time tv. 'But it was done in the best possible taste' N.B. Kenny Everett series : ITV `78-'81 ~ BBC '81- `88
Few words as the humour is based on the perception of the sounds of each language to native UK English speakers' ears. She's just sounding like them, rather than using words.
Apparently with the Asian woman they had to do several takes because she kept cracking up. She has a ton of great skits and characters - gay son, Derek, Nan, Drunk Bride, Boob job babe
I'd love to take your comments seriously, but anyone who puts motley Crue ahead of David Bowie doesn't deserve any consideration just pity as to their knowledge of the outside world or in your cases complete lack of
Hilarious sketch..she's a gem. I detected a little, incey, wincey bit of Wokism creeping in at your assessment 😊....it's ok..not criticizing you, but it is a word that you really should look into, in order to see the nudge nudge principle of certain political factions at work, and how they try to control your speech. They really are deluded types that do this..but hey ho...it's up to us all to push back and say no..free expression is our right from birth. No one person has any right whatsoever to tell another person how to express, or not to express, their thoughts. To do so, is hegemony.
Hahahahha.... we are familiar with the term. We were using it the correct way before it got politicized and transformed into something else. Anyway, Tasha and I are all about freedom of speech and not letting others dictate your thoughts. However, the comment at the end was kind of an inside joke so don't look into it too much.
Racist spaghetti comment…. Italy is more than just pasta! It’s also poorly built beautiful cars and sexual harassment. Respect to Italy, you guys got it going on
Crossed a line? BWAAHAHAHAHA Thanks for the laugh. You might want to just stick to your echo chambers and leave the rest of us to our enjoyments. We don't have time for thought police and fragile egos.
I don't know if you caught it but it adds a little to the context. When the boss is telling her about his dilemma, she says "Yeah, I did a TEFL in my gap year". TEFL is a training qualification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. A gap year is not so common in the US but it's when you take a year off after higher education studies (e.g. between high school and college or between college and starting your career) to do other things and gain some life experience. So it in no way qualifies her for translating into seven different languages! 😂
The sign language you refer to reminds me of Nelson Mandela's funeral. The eyes of the world were watching- sixty world leaders were there and millions of people around the world were watching it on TV. They had a signer throughout the service that really didn't know much sign language and was making stuff up. for your amusement th-cam.com/video/7qu1cs6Fhk8/w-d-xo.html
You mentioned at the end people faking sign language so you might get a kick out of this video clip. It is from The Sketch Show, a British comedy skit show. My wife and I were laughing about this particular skit just the other day because something reminded us of it. 🤣 th-cam.com/video/N5bg1No_RSE/w-d-xo.html
Catherine Tate was a savage for this one!
I was born in Sweden, this was hilarious haha
When on their lunch break, the African guy was given the wrong lunch and said "this is not my sandwich". Catherine added it to her impression and you can see him almost lose it when she says it.
That makes it even funnier!
It also works because when people talk another language you sometimes hear the odd English word that stands out.
Thank you. I have been trying to figure out what the reference was for that because i hadn't heard it before to know why it was funny..
He does 😂
The story is that they didn’t get through it without laughing. Apparently the Asian woman was in bits for most of it, for about a half hour!
Apparently the two most prolific gigglers were the Chinese woman and the black guy.
Catherine Tate is a god. It's a great sketch. It couldn't be done today, but it's right on the line. The thing that still saves it is that _she's_ the racist and we're laughing at her, not the racism.
That's the exact point. No-one was safe but each actor cracked up laughing. Relax with P.C folks. Please return laughter like this!!!
She takes no prisoners. Just brilliant!
If you haven't already you need to check out Catherine Tate's "Nan".
Try - "Catherine Tate - Gay Son"
I was literally about to edit my previous post to suggest this!
One of my favs, funny as hell lol
Person on right has a beautiful smile.
This Catherine Tate character says, "well, I can do that" to any impossible request and she's actually useless at everything.
She has many different characters, can be a bit hit and miss but the hits are always huge hits

Racism involves a hate or intolerance of a RACE of people. Being Italian is not a race, it's a nationality.
Watch the Posh people skits, they're absolutely hilarious.
Took hours to film due to the Chinese woman laughing uncontrollably when it got to her.
Great reaction from UK x
This is a repeat character in her show - she always volunteers for stuff she absolutely cannot do

Laughing with not at , Kathrine Tate is the mark in her comedy it’s a poke at people who are that clueless and it’s great !
That spaghetti, where funny as well 🤣
funfact: The word Barbarian may have evolved from the classical Greek view that non Greeks made BaaBaa noises when they spoke.

You need to see Catherine Tate as Nan, that's hilarious!
Check out some of the banned commercials. The Mastercard banned commercial is the funniest IMO.
'Spaghetti!' 😂
You two are gold
“Spaghetti!!!”🤣🤣. Nice opinion piece.

If you find this "offensive"...get over yourself and just friggin laugh...it's ok!!!!
I've literally never seen negative comments on this sketch, or anyone being offended. Not ever.

Well, three of them. 🤪😉
Check out Catherine Tate as the nan and "The Harry Enfield Show"
They had to do many takes for this because the Chinese lady could not stop laughing. The African guy was pretty much the same. 😆
Try 'Gay Son' and 'Nan in Hospital'. Hilarious
I heard they all had a good laugh. I bet it took lots of takes to get through it.
Aren't those Reform voters hard, intimidating a woman in the pub...makes you proud to be British 🇬🇧

The gay son skit
Surely, it's up to the audience to decide whether your reaction is hilarious or not!!
so funny

Hahahahahahahahh.....but Crue is better than David Bowie... Lol
