  • exeter.edu/exe... - What’s a Harkness classroom at Phillips Exeter Academy really like? Teachers from our math, science, history and modern languages departments let a film crew into their classroom to provide a closer look at them - and their students - engaging around the table.

What I like about this style of teaching is how it encourages every student - even quieter ones - to say something, to feel like they’re part of the conversation, rather than relying only on the teacher, or a few of the more vocal students.
It’s also a great way to learn History because it emphasizes the collaborative aspects of producing History, as opposed to the adversarial manner often portrayed by the media.

I appreciate this teacher's critique, and how he adjusted the model to deal with small problems that arose. For example, having the group take 30 seconds to allow for quieter students to get a chance to speak.

Yeah this guy is like a next level teacher. I'm very impressed by how careful and critically he is about his teaching method.
