Thanks for the great information. As far as applying LQA to a mortgage, is it possible to do that with a home you purchased (but still owe on) before accepting the position? I found a property I am interested in buying now, but GS employment could happen a few months or maybe even a few years later if I end up taking a different position.
@@scott-h4j No I have not! There is generally a 5 year rule. There are some exceptions such as if your position is hard to fill. There is also a possibility you maybe audited and forced to repay anything over 5 years based on circumstances of course
Hello. New subscriber. Is USAJobs the only source for overseas assignments? I remember when I was active duty there was Lockheed and Brown & Root when I was in Germany. Now I work for a VA but very interested in going back overseas as a civilian.
Most of your federal employment opportunities are posted on USAJOBS or the federal agency’s website. For example, US Dept. of State.. Clearancejobs and similar agencies focus more on contractor employment.
Great question! It depends on location, insurance company and type of plan. If the location doesn’t except it, you can pay for the treatment and file a claim for reimbursement. In most cases, there are agreements with local hospitals and clinics near US military bases already have agreements in place to support the employees. Host nations are usually pretty good about supporting that effort!
@@yves9277 thank you. In summary, you continue to choose a plan, I.e Blue Cross, and either a) it’s accepted in the area you are located, or, b) you get the care you need and then file a claim. Would the insurance company pay it? Really appreciate the content. Thank you.
@@deniseb.6007 Thats correct! For example, my current plan with Blue Cross covers international as well! While working in Italy for 4 years, my insurance was accepted as long as I contact the insurance company prior to any medical care. They provided a medical code to the facility while I was responsible for the copayments.
Brining a car overseas outweighs to cost of buying a new one. Keeping in mind that the new car you have have to sell and/or dispose of upon departure. For example, household goods and one car cost me approximately $1500 in taxes for the PCS.
Current I'm a contractor working at the VA, I'm actively applying on usajob for work in IT oversea and so far no contact, the VA promise to hire me when next year budget come in, (no guarantees there might b budget cut) one of my colleagues suggest joining the military, what are my best option to work through gov oversea? Appreciate this.

Good question. That is a question for the housing office on how the funds can be distributed.
For high three retirement purposes, OCONUS assignments would not have any locality pay associated, and would only be based on your grade & step?

Have you ever seen permanent overseas assignments on the gs side? My wife is Japanese so I'm just curious about this.

What about health care for myself and family? Is FEHB available overseas? Thank you!

Do you recommend bringing a car overseas? Or is buying a car in a location better for reducing tax-related paperwork?
