I need a lesson on this monster because I think I have it down but sometimes I don’t. That claw slam gets me because I don’t know the timing nor do I know when it’s a straight column vs wider

Hey, peeboz! Insane run as always, dude!
I was wondering, do you have any advice or good references for learning how to truly get *good* with weapons in this game?
I replayed through MHGU recently with my gf, who'd never played before, and I wanted to eventually tackle all the Deviants, since I sorely neglected them on my first playthrough way back when. But aside from the grind that will be, I do wanna try and improve my gameplay a lot.
I know it's vague, but any advice?

Loaded question indeed. 'Gitting gud' at MH involves racking up lots of experience and playtime so that stuff just comes with time but the advice I like to give beginners that want to improve in general is learning when it is safe to commit to an action, i.e when the monster is using X move, I can do Y without getting hit. For start, get into a habit of not panic healing when you want to use item. It's easy to yolo heal when you're doing lower tier quests but on harder quests, knowing when it is safe to use consumables without trading hits becomes an essential skill.
You need to do some trials and errors first of course but the key is that whenever you get hit/make mistake, think about why you get hit, what move was the monster using and try not to repeat the same scenario. Then getting good with weapons is just applying your knowledge of weapon kit with the fundamental: If I'm playing X weapon, when the monster do Y move, I can do Z move without getting hit.

This is the spreadsheet with collections of time attack that are really great for references. Watching good players helps you a lot with learning how to utilize the weapon moveset and monster knowledge.

HGE is too big of skill tax imo and it dosn't help with the damage hitbox
