Adaptive cruise and blind spot (2013 V60) are two of the best driver aids and are now a requirement on anything else i look at. Shame there will be no more new estates from Volvo.

re the lane keep help; if the car has driver modes like sport / eco ect there might be one for "individual" or it did on the xc40 i had on loan; you can set up a individual driver mode and set all the settings you want (like turning start/stop off) so that when you get in the car you press the driver mode button once/twice to activate that mode; its a pain you have to do this but its one work around.
And yes lane keep assistance hasn't improved it looks like even from 2013 to this one; i don't think it its suitable for this country due to how narrow our roads really are.

I had a V90 D4 Inscription after my V70. Lovely car, although mine was ruined by the "20" wheels it came on. After 60,000 miles a service was quoted, with brakes at £3500. I sold it.

Gosh. I was thinking about buying a second hand one but that's mental. Is it because you went to volvo? Couldn't you go to a normal mechanic?

We own the same with T6 polestar tune. One issue - your favorite dog gate had to be removed due to the air struts going bad. No replacement is available. A new one seems to be the only, quite expensive, option.
The second very weak exterior panels. Was the only vehicle, out of 4, damaged in a hail storm. Ironically, among other vehicles; 2 - volvo C30's and GMC 2500HD - no damage whatsoever. Otherwise, the V90 XC is the best wagon I've ever seen so far. I recommend a screen protector for the info center. Bought one from Amzn when the car was new. Seen other used Volvos with scratches in that area. Great review.

I have a XC60 Inscription with the vented seats, before that had a Momentum XC60, and found that you sweated quite a lot, but the Nappa and vent makes it another world.

my opinion is that the v90 xc is the best but the ratios of the v60 xc is better

Nice review. I thought I’d come up with a killer point at rhe Volvo showroom recently…They wanted me to swap my 2014 XC70 for V90 Cross Country but I said I wasn’t happy with the touchscreen commands (while driving) and that seems to go against the Volvo safety tradition. They then demonstrated that all major commands - heater, radio, telephone etc. could be managed with Voice Control 🙄!! I have tried them on an XC40 snd they do work 👍🏻 - once it gets used to your voice and you say, for example, Call John - not Ring John 😀

    • @Apex180
      @Apex180 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Personally I don't want to talk the car, i just want to press the button that does X and be done with it.
Its simple and doesn't require thinking about, there is no cognative load in that; having to think and then voice the words in your head is a "cognative load" that to me means you are not concentrating on the act of driving.
Had the option on a XC40 i had on loan, hated it (the voice commands, wasn't too keen on the car either)

Does this V90 suffer from the irritation of the radio shutting down after about 5 minutes or so when parked due to "low battery"? Seems to be a regular problem when parked up listening to the radio in my S80. No real obvious reason for it, battery in good condition, is it down to a rather too high battery voltage safety threshold?

Why do they have the £390.00 VED Surcharge ? Do you know ! P.S.I think the dog guard is an option as not all V90's CC , have one ? Great video.

Could I put in an "off topic" question?? I am about to have my third ABS Sensor in a year replaced (£150 each time)! To be fair, the XC70 is nearly 10 years old (but only 36,000 miles). Is this a common fault on Volvos as it certainly is for me. Oh and by the way, you were going to let us have your views on the merits or otherwise of locking wheel nuts? Please let us have your thoughts on these topics at some point. Thanks again.

Thanks for the review! As a former V70 owner, I had a my first drive in a V90 the other week but was sadly disappointed. I was, of course, aware that there is less boot space than in the V70/XC70 but I was quite surprised at just how noticeably smaller the overall capacity is. What was Volvo thinking?!
To me the cabin also felt rather "claustrophobic", albeit perhaps as a perception rather than reality. What didn't help was the massive "box" of sensors between the rear-view mirror and windscreen, which blotted out quite a lot of the view, especially for me as a tall-ish person.
I drove the D5 PowerPulse variant but the performance was nothing special, while the turbo lag was quite frightening when trying to safely get on to busy roundabouts. In that sense it really felt like driving a turbo-diesel from the 1990s.
Overall perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that Volvo has dropped production of its estate cars for the UK market. While SUVs have become an almost dominant choice, maybe that's partly because Volvo chose to no longer make what I would call a "proper" estate car!
Another issue with the touchscreen is when a previous driver has sneezed ( @ 21:00 ) - wiped their nose with their left hand and used that hand to operate the screen. Covid alert!
So I'm now in the market for a tidy V70 or XC70 or Merc E class.

No. I have a VEA 2.0 D4. At 45000mls it has had £3000 of oil leaks fixed at a dealer under warranty. Leaks, along with early piston ring issues will scrap the 2014-2017 2.0 engines early when the burning oil clogs the DPF/CATs.
I see this review is the 2018 but there are still engine issues.
I have done more then a million miles in Volvos over the last 30 years, yes really, about 1.2m and counting, and I have the least faith in the VEA engines than any of the past ones.
Body wise, they are lovely, calm, boring, silent, comfortable, milage eating sofas on wheels. Engine wise not so sure.
And being a dog person I need rear space, there is far less real space in the v90 than the xc70.

VEA isn't too bad, Wouldn't be my choice but they fixed ring issues by the end of 2015
Egr's are a bit of an issue but thats the only major fail point on them so far
