I don't think he's really upset, but he's definitely surprised. Not surprised at the sentiment, surprised that Opie is so capable of deluding himself. They weren't friends for most of their career together, sure; that is more than reasonable to say. But they definitely had *some* period of time at the beginning when they considered each other friends; and Opie saying otherwise is just dumb. He has some type of untreated mental illness that he is *NOT* dealing with. You can get all the therapy in the world, but if you're not completely open with a therapist, there's only so much they can do for you. Opie would get really mad at Colin sometimes, especially when they weren't on XM and they'd have to dump out because of CQ's potty mouth, but CQ's lack of remorse about it made it even funnier. Opie however didn't really get mad at Louis CK for having them dump out, perhaps because Louis was doing extremely well compared to CQ.
You know what? The absolute love and adoration for the opiate Anthony show will be forever. And I listen to this, and I listen to some of opie's crap and some of Jimmy's crap and Anthony's crap and whatever, and I just can't. I find Kevin kind of annoying here. He keeps bringing up this marriage and divorce analogy about how Ant and Opie had enough money and realized they didn’t need each other anymore but it’s just inaccurate. Ant has said multiple times that he had no desire to leave the show, split the show, or end the show. He said that even though he and Opie didn’t talk or get along as friends outside of work, he was more than willing to continue working if he hadn’t been fired. As for Opie, I always found the whole “Anthony was doing some really shady things behind the scenes” to be such a weak move on his part. He never spoke on these “shady things” but he implied they were pretty much criminal when he would say “I’ve been asked not to talk about it” during his fight with Jimmy.
It breaks my heart when i see friends fall out and rewrite history to say they never liked each other at all. O&A was some of the best content ever created and could easily be done again if everyone involved could just get over their hurt feelings and ego.
I personally don't care if they were friends or not. Whether they were friends or not doesn't change the dynamic of the show for me at all. I didn't assume Howard was friends with everyone he worked with.
They hated each other for longer than a decade before the they split up. One of the reasons they brought Jimmy on the show to put a buffer between each other.
It's insulting to our intelligence. We all understand and accept by now that they aren't friends or even collegiate in the present time, and that they haven't been for years. Fine. However, for both parties to insist they were *never* friends is such wholesale horseshit, and you can prove it by watching or listening to any content they did together from their early WNEW days up to about the early-mid-2000s (say, 2003). At first they used to giggle together and sigh/fawn all over each other like schoolkids on a date, it's there on tape and on video available in the public domain for anyone who cares to find it. The most annoying and pathetic part is the blatant lies they tell that contravene hard evidence.
But I have a question. For years, I been hearing Opie complain on his podcast (via TH-cam, of course) that Anthony has done some quote "really terrible things." Ant didn't meet Opie at a bar or some place that he usually meets friends. They met because Opie recognized Ants talent. They were never friends, they were work partners and thats why it worked. Ant is such a liar. Ant and Jim hated Opie for the majority of their run. There was a little time in Boston they maybe got along, but as Opie is saying, he was a meal ticket. Played nice. Got the job, then slowly just turned on him. Rightfully so or not. And he has told enough stories to prove what I just said. And Opie has heard those same stories. So now when he looks back, him and Ant weren’t ever really cool.

Watching Opie reminds of when I lit a porta-potty on fire once at some music festival. There is nothing fast or compelling even, but still I stood there with my hands stinking like the hairspray that I took off of some nameless concert girl and used to start the fire. It breaks my heart when i see friends fall out and rewrite history to say they never liked each other at all. O&A was some of the best content ever created and could easily be done again if everyone involved could just get over their hurt feelings and ego.

However, for both parties to insist they were *never* friends is such wholesale horseshit, and you can prove it by watching or listening to any content they did together from their early WNEW days up to about the early-mid-2000s (say, 2003). At first they used to giggle together and sigh/fawn all over each other like schoolkids on a date, it's there on tape and on video available in the public domain for anyone who cares to find it.
